castalie: (PATD - Live Brendon)
I'm presently eating (drinking?) hot soup in front of my computer during lunch break and pretending that I am, in fact, at home, wrapped in my blanket, sitting on my couch, still having soup but being all cozy and lazy. And warm. Let's not forget the warmth. I was complaining that winter had decided not to visit us around Paris this year? Well, it finally came! Minus temperatures, snow (a lot of snow for a lot of départements) and did I mention the minus temperatures? It finally feels and looks and smells like winter. Incidentally I had to go and buy new mittens because I, of course, lost mine on my way back to France this weekend and my fingers have turned not just red but almost purple too easily for my liking since then.

So, yes, before I lost the mittens, our little trip to London happened, from Thursday morning to Saturday night :-) One that included (among other things) a day-trip to Oxford and things we hadn't before, namely a visit to the Tate Modern, a nice stroll around Noting Hill and breakfast at the Orangery at Kensington Palace. Oh and we found ourselves in the middle of the Waitangi Pub Crawl thing on Saturday, there were some hilarious outfits!

And, of course (it kinda was the reason why we decided to go to the UK in the first place) we saw Panic! at the Disco on Thursday evening at the O2 Academy Brixton ♥ ♥ The queue was a bit insane, it just never stopped! It went around a whole block and I wondered whether we'd ever get inside. Talk about a change from the small venue in Frankfurt! But it was a nice venue nonetheless and we had a great view of the boys :-)

I won't do a recap (though I'll go and look for some around LJ, I'm curious as to what people thought of Brendon's insane speeches) but I'll just say that the guys were their awesome and energetic selves. I can't get enough of Panic live, really ♥ ♥ They all looked dashing, as usual. We had the mini drum-line of love, we had a back-flip (cue longing for a fic where Zack is all "you little shit, how do you want me to keep you in one piece if you keep pulling little stunt like that on a bad-lit stage with a gazillion instruments and even more cables all around!"), we had Spencer talking to the crowd for the encore and him being all "ok you'll have not one but two more songs. Hey, fuck it, let's make it three" and then Brendon calling him a motherfucker. I thought there was much less interactions between them all (now that I can compare between gigs) but we had a lot of speeches from Brendon. And, see, I could say that I'm hard pressed to pick which one was the craziest but, between you and me, the whole part about his mother, the one that concluded with him being all "so grateful that he came from her vagina", that one? Might have topped them all. Oh, Brendon o_O

But anyway lol It was awesome and I can't wait to see them again! I have no idea when, especially if they do start working on their next album, as Brendon mentioned (which, whee!), but I've seen them three live times now, I'll try to be patient and just think of those gigs when times get difficult :-)

castalie: (Whico - Neal)
After a busy weekend - exam proctoring, cloak room duties, research for the paper I have to hand in on Friday - and a busy day at work, I'm home and off work till Wednesday \o/

On my way home, Cookie - who had to call in sick this morning - told me there was a big surprise waiting for me, and there was! )

I kept mum about the whole thing because I was afraid I would jinx it but now that the tickets are in our hands I can officially get excited about a) going to London again early February (we'll be arriving on Thursday, leaving on Saturday) and b) the idea of seeing Panic! at the Disco again ♥ It'll be my third time. Who would have thought? It'd seem I'm keeping the "A different country for each gig" theme that has been going on as far as Panic is concerned. First time was in France, second in Germany and third time - if everything goes according to plan #KnocksWood #AndAllThat - in the UK. I quite enjoy that theme ;-)

Something unrelated now - though it also brings a lot of excitement and happiness in my fannish life - is White Collar. I've been in a WhiCo mood the past week(s) and have been watching a couple of episodes every evening in order to be ready for the new episode to air. I've also been paying daily visits to the White Collar part of AO3 and reading many WhiCo fics - Peter/Neal, Peter/Neal/El, Clinton/Neal, Keller/Neal... you get the idea :-) Then last night I found this sneak peek that I'd completely missed and it brought the excitement up a notch. I rewound a couple of times and then felt compelled to pause at 0:56 and squee. Then I rushed to our bedroom and jumped on the bed to show the video to Cookie so that I could squee with her. Good times! I just can't wait, really. I've also squeed about what has been said about season 4 and I guess I'm entering spoiler territory ) This tidbit of intel filled me with glee!

Anyway. The gist of this entry was: busy weekend, busy Monday, happy evening, happy plans and happy shows \o/

Back from Frankfurt where I had a blast with the girls. The concert was absolutely fantastic and we managed to play tourists a little, which delighted me to no end ♥

The concert. One of the (many) things I enjoyed so much when I saw Panic! in Paris in May is how much fun they seemed to have on stage; how they played off each other, how would they laugh all the time and how they just looked like they were having such a great time - it does make for a wonderful concert experience when you're seeing a band really having fun like that in front of you. But it was nothing compared to the gig in Frankfurt. I don't know, they all looked positively beaming and just like they had the time of their lives. It was fucking fantastic.

I always thought Spencer had a gorgeous smile and all but that night he looked radiant. And I just love how the guys seemed to play to him even more than the last time we saw them; they'd regroup close to his drum and play/sing to him more than usual. Brendon turned towards him a lot. It was delightful to see!

And the best thing is? It wasn't just us thinking that, case in point Zack's tweet:

*feels so validated* \o/ If you want to know the setlist, it's on the pic he linked to.

Then, there was also this tweet from Dallon "Very fun show. Thank you everyone for picking us up. We really needed that". Incidentally, Brendon dedicated a song to the victims in Pukkelpop.

In bullet points and with no order whatsoever, some of the things I remember from the concert of awesomeness )

As usual, our personal photographer was there and Jem took pics and captured some of the songs. As a sample have Brendon singing Let's Get it On to Spencer (IIRC, he said that if he were to get naked, he needed to do it properly?) before breaking into Nearly Witches (both songs are on the video). And I think it's a perfect vid to show how much fun the show was. And how fucking awesome those guys are ♥ ♥

As for the touristy things, before we left for the venue, we had a stroll along the Main towards Römerberg, walked through the Archaelogical Gardens, visited Kaiserdom and had a refreshing drink in a nice little cafe between said cathedral and the place. Then on Sunday we spent a couple of hours at the Senckerberg Museum of National History, where we saw many skeletons of dinosaurs and other interesting things. Also, there were many pop culture references thrown in to make things even more interesting :-) After the Museum we were kinda dead on our feet, so we rested in a Starbucks near the station before it was time to leave.

Unrelated. If you ever wanted to visit the World of Sex and have some fun in the Gay Area? It's at 74, Kaiserstraße. I know because our hostel was just next door lol Actually, there were many sex shops in that street. We certainly know how to pick our hostels \o/

It's so weird, I keep forgetting that I'm leaving for Germany early tomorrow with [livejournal.com profile] nicelyobsessed, [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound and [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer and seeing Panic! at the Disco in the evening! I just don't know why my mind can't grasp the concept o_O I definitely need to remember to pack tonight, though! Even if it's just an overnight trip, we'll need PJs and a toothbrush and a change of clothes, right? And a book for the train. Note to self; definitely do remember to pack! And get up in the morning to catch our train! Actually, I'll make sure to call GD first thing and make sure she gets up in time lol

So, yes, Frankfurt tomorrow! And Panic \o/ I'm always cautious with concerts and kinda joking that until I'm standing in front of the guys on stage, I won't believe it'll happen, but considering the distressing reasons that made them cancel last time, I think I'll skip the little "joke".

Changing the subject - and thanks go to Jeff Eastin for spreading the news, we can always rely on him - so it'd seem Matt Bomer is joining the cast of Magic Mike? You know, Soderbergh's new film starring - among others - Channing Tatum and dealing with male strippers? As well as males strippers' "friendship"? Yes, that one. Guess that's one more film to go and see in 2012, if only for aesthetics value ;-)

PS: argh, I've been trying to post this entry for the past thirty minutes! Post, entry, post!

Back from the Panic gig \o/ It was aweeesome! Not that I had any doubt but it's always so lovely when your expectations are met. And this is my most favourite band so I had high expectations - just couldn't help it :-)

I can't believe I saw Panic! At the Disco!!! One of my fannish dreams became reality tonight *sappy look*

Here's what I'm going to to do, I'm going to write a quick recap [ETA: turns out it wasn't such a 'quick' recap, after all ] with as many details as I remember right this minute, then I'll tell you when [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer and [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound post their own recaps - and I know I'm a tease, but Jem's will include some fantastic photos! Because having your own photographer with you when you're attending shows is the best thing ever. Y/Y? We had our usual debriefing at McDonald after the show and Jem used the opportunity to show the many photos she'd taken (she had her laptop with her) and we kept squeeing over pretty much all of them. If you're into Panic, you're in for a treat :-)

Anyways! What I remember right this minute, without really trying to make sense of things... because I'm totally riding the post-gig high right now, you know how it is :-)

Brendon is an awesome frontman! Nothing new here, I know, but it's always different when you're actually part of the crowd and seeing it with your own eyes. He is awesome on stage. He has such energy! Seeing Spencer bang the shit out of his drums was quite the experience, too. And Ian and Dallon were awesome as well; they played against Brendon wonderfully! The three of them had some very nice moments on stage! It's always more difficult with Spencer, being at the back and on his little podium, you know? But they're just such a great band and they really do seem like they're having tremendous fun playing together. Oh and there Zack, too, which had his own moments, both just before the show began and during. But, ok, using the cut-tag, now. )

So, anyway, I had a fantastic time and I'm so happy I finally got to see them! Now, I only want one thing, to see them again asap! ♥ ♥

PS: it's 2.30AM and, as I said, I'm still riding the post-gig high so I hope I'm making sense with my recap lol *fingers crossed*

TOMORROW!

I took a day off so that I could do some more work on the paper I have to hand in Sunday but I'm having trouble focusing this morning. Typical. It's not so severe that I'm wasting the day away (plus it's not even noon) but it's always a bit annoying when your mind seems to be wandering all over the place instead of settling in just one location. Good thing I've already accomplished a lot, guess I can allow myself to go a bit slower today. As long as I'm still going.

My problem is that the fannish part of me is excited about many things this week and is distracting the student part of me - admittedly, the student part of me is easily distracted. I think it's all Panic's fault. First, because today is Panic D-1 and I'm already vibrating thinking of tomorrow's gig. I'm going to see Brendon and Spencer! For real! I've been waiting for this for years! Almost thought it would never happen and had kinda given up on the idea of seeing them live and turns out I was wrong! Between you and me, being wrong never made me happier :-) Then there might be a quick trip to Germany in August to see them again. So far it's the most tentative plan ever but there has been talks of it so that is quite exciting, too! And just now, my friend Sandra sent me an email about a live show that Alexandre Astier (a French actor I absolutely love) will be doing next year and do I want to go with her? And it made me bounce and squee all over again. It feels like I'm stuck in a squeeing and bouncing loop since yesterday. On the one hand, it is a great feeling, on the other, it's not exactly conducive to academic productivity!

Speaking of, break over, let's go back to Lycidas :-p

Today was one of those days when you feel a lot was accomplished: new proctoring session (I was at work at 7.45AM for that, definitely not a schedule I'd like on a regular basis) which went well even though the start was quite hectic. Then in the afternoon was the conference our department had organised, during which I took notes and tweeted (and squeed silently whenever one of my followers would RT - professional RTs make me really happy whereas regular RTs at my personal account don't really mean anything to me, I love tweeting from my work-account \o/), it went very smoothly too and the teachers who participated seemed very interested and pleased, go us! Then after work, Cookie and I went swimming, it's officially becoming a 'thing'! #PrideIzUs

Soon we'll sit down and watch the latest DW - all my downloads failed yesterday, which was sad, but everything is back in order today and JDownloader has been kinda busy; DW, GoT (I know I said I'm gonna wait before watching the show, doesn't mean I don't want to have all the episodes sitting on my HD whenever I'm ready to dive in), SPN, TVD, Glee. It's nice to see it download its little ass off :-) I'm just waiting for Cookie to finish working on her drawing, one of the many she's been commissioned to hand in for a project at work (my girlfriend is officially a paid artist! And the teacher she's working with, as well as our colleagues, are all very impressed with her work, which, dude, OF COURSE YOU ARE, guys! She's very talented :-)).

I'm not getting bored in the meantime, mind. I've finally had the time to sit down and watch Panic's newest video clip and I love it, it's so much fun! ♥ Incidentally, I can't believe I'll be seeing them next week! Man, I'll burst from joy, I'm sure :-)

The month of May seems very bandom-oriented, come to think of it. I'll be seeing Patrick Stump tomorrow [ETA: ok, so we didn't go, after all. No real reason, we just weren't in the mood anymore], then it's Panic on the 12th. And there's BBB on the horizon too, what with the summaries that were posted for claiming the other day. I've had a look and there're several stories I'll be waiting for impatiently, plus some others which I'm curious about. Big Bangs are so much love; whenever it's BB time, it feels like Christmas. They're my favourite 'event' fic-wise, there's nothing quite like it. I love fic-memes with their awesome themes all the time (dude, the Kink memes were totally meant for me) but Big Bangs? They hold a very special place in my heart ♥

First things first, the Happiest (and quirkiest) of Birthdays to a mate I've had on my flist for a long time, namely [livejournal.com profile] snailbones. What would we do without her TGIF posts, I wonder?? *kisses*

I'm one step closer to seeing Panic in May; exhibit A ). Isn't this the most gorgeous ticket ever? Oh, Panic, I can't believe I'll be seeing you in a couple of months! ♥ ♥ I bought my ticket yesterday, basically the minute after they went on sales \o/ I'll go with the usual suspects, namely [livejournal.com profile] nicelyobsessed and [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer - and hopefully [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound, if she can make the trip *fingers crossed*

After checking Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship, The Like and My Chemical Romance off my Bandom To See list (as well as Adam Lambert in my American Idol List) I'll finally be able to check Panic! at the Disco too and, dude, it's good to be a fan :-)

A concert that should be a lot of fun will be on Tuesday as the whole FP (minus [livejournal.com profile] babycakesin) will be going to see MyChem (first time for Rosie, second time for us). It's not often we're all gathered together so that's one more reason to be excited :-)

Speaking of the FP, we have a [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound home for the whole week. Program for the night, White Collar mini-marathon. I so approve. Which, obviously I do, since I'm the one who offered? Yes. My love for this show seems exponential; the more I watch it, the more I love it, it just never ends, it only grows.

And totally unrelated, I found the tab meme fun so I'm playing too. [livejournal.com profile] turps33 set up the bar very high with her 118 tabs, I'm afraid I only have nine of them at the moment I'm typing this... here it goes: My Friends' Page, Stained in You (AI: Adam/Kris that I have yet to try), The Pleasure-Dome Hotel (Sherlock: Sherlock/John), Gmail, my Google Reader, io9 article "Want to pass on your genes? Polygamy isn't the solution, Flicker: The full collection of still images from the opening sequence of "The Big Bang Theory" TV show (I was reading an article on TBBT and it linked to it), His Boys (SPNRPS: Jeff/Jensen/Jared), JDM/Jensen comment fic meme Masterlist.

My back is acting up so I'm working from home today - I'm so glad Boss Man encourages us to do telework whenever it's possible. Telework isn't that common yet in France and it's a pity because it's a great work perquisite. As I always say when I'm talking about it, it's not something I'd enjoy doing all the time but once in a while it is nice to be able to just stay home and work from there... and in today's case when my back is being a pain (literally) it's even more enjoyable.

Anyway, I'm not about to write an ode to telework - especially as it would defeat the purpose if I were to waste time on LJ instead of, you know, working, but I just felt like sharing my squee because one of my wish had been granted! Panic! at the Disco is doing a concert in Paris in May! Omg, this is a fannish dream come true, really. The last time they toured in France I wasn't a fan and missed them and ever since I've been dreaming of seeing them live and it's happening! Well, if I get a ticket but I'll be ready on Friday morning to grab one, believe you me! *fingers crossed that everything works out*

PANIC! I have to say I had the feeling 2010-2011 would be a good bandom concert year and turns out I was right :-)

If I weren't in so much pain I'd be bouncing a lot today what with the idea of seeing Panic and then the knowledge that I have a new White Collar sitting on my HD waiting to be watched tonight. Today is a good day. Messed-up back aside ♥
