It's where le Père Noël put his gifts back in the days *g* That's what children did back then, they put their petits souliers under the tree - souliers being an old-fashioned way of saying 'chaussures', we don't use 'soulier' now. For instance, the only time when I hear that word is when my grand-father talks about his shoes and he was born in 1915 *g*
I remember putting my shoes under the tree only once with my cousins when we were kids. The rest of the time, it wasn't one of our traditions. We had/have others, but not this one *g*
