Picspam: Paris - by night and by day.

If some of you remember the wedding I went to early July? Here are the pics I took from the barge sailing through Paris:

Random Sights Along The Seine

I took those ones because they're just gorgeous:

Oh and a sight you get to see a lot in Summer in Paris. People doing picnics on the side of la Seine:

On a funny note - well, I thought it was funny at least - the barge you see in the background? Is a fire station *g*

And la Samaritaine which is like an Institution here... and is going to disappear. It's still a mystery:

As for the colours? It was before we knew that London would win the Games. During the whole Olympic Game campaign, Paris was 'decorated' with the Olympic colours each night *g*

I'm quite disappointed because I missed the Cathédrale, so could only took a pic of it when it was a) far away, b) hidden and c) from behind. But well, it's better than nothing. I guess. And it'll give you an idea of some of the sights you can get when you're wandering around Paris, anyway *g*

La Conciergerie

This is the Conciergerie. To make a long story short, la Conciergerie was originally part of the palace built under the reign of Philippe IV. It became a prison during the Middle Ages and its busiest time might have been during the French Revolution when the Tribunal Révolutionnaire decided to make it their own. Marie-Antoinette and Robespierre - just to name a few - were imprisoned over there:

Some Famous Parisian Bridges

Pont Alexandre III with a bit of the Tour Eiffel in the background, and if you think it's sparkling, you're right, it is *g*

Pont Alexandre III again:

Pont Neuf:

Pont Notre Dame - or passerelle Soférino... or something. OMG I suck at being French! But I'm a Choisyenne, not a Parisienne so er yeah, I still suck *sigh*:

And all right so I don't know the name of that bridge but I just liked the bit of Tour Eiffel in the background again, so there *g* Ladies and gentlemen, that's le Pont des Arts:

La Tour Eiffel

Two pictures of the Iron Lady. Illuminated and all.

And this banner was on the Tour Eiffel too - on one of the arcs - to celebrate Paris' candidature. We were motivated, weren't we? lol

Know what? I love my capital - nothing new, mind, but it bears repeating *g*

Home, sweet home! *g*

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know whether I'd like to live in Paris, but living near enough to be able to go there whenever I feel like it is wonderful *g*

[identity profile] moimoietmoi.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I could live anywhere else in France! I've always lived in Paris, so it's really my home.

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
If you lived in Paris all your life, I can see how it would seem surreal to live anywhere else. Same thing with me and Choisy. I've lived in for the last twenty-six years... and seeing I'm twenty-six years old, well you do the math lol

[identity profile] frayen.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, Paris is so beautiful!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks *beams*

Glad I could share a bit with you, then *g*

Beautiful pics, Mouse, thanks for sharing!

LOL One day I'll have to take some pics of Shakespeare and Co as well as the approximative area where Duncan's barge should be *g*

You're welcome, of course *g*

And all right so I don't know the name of that bridge but I just liked the bit of Tour Eiffel in the background again, so there *g*

Dude, that's the Pont des Arts O_o Dude, I'm a better Parisian than you and I've only been there once :P

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, foreigners always know a city better than the people who supposedly live over there, so I'm not exactly surprised *g*

[identity profile] french-hobbit.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice pics! I love Paris in the summer, less stress, less cars...

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, and yes there's something special about Paris in the summer *g*

[identity profile] yami-tai.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* I was just thinking about Paris this morning when I was replying to your email! Thanks for sharing ^_~!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
Great minds think alike *g* And glad I could share with Paris lovers *g*

*cries*
You know, I love your capital too, and I MISS it! And what do you mean La Samaritaine is going to disappear? Disappear to where?
*is shocked*

If I could just come up with a reason to move back to Paris. Or, you know, a job or something.
*stares at pictures longingly*

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I wish you could find a way to come back. Maybe in the future?

And la Samaritaine is going to close its doors. As unbelievable as it sounds, it'll happen soon. We're still trying to graps the concept, to be honest.

[identity profile] naeara.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful piccies! It brings back good memories of my own barge experience. I want to go back!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I'm quite happy with the result, admittedly lol And hope you'll get to live another barge experience one of these days *fingers crossed*

[identity profile] whitevanilla.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful pictures! I can't wait to visit!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Brit *g* And there's so much more to see. I think you'll enjoy our capital very much *g*

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think I went twice, on a school trip, you know? Though I think I remember my mom telling me she'd brought me there when I was a kid, so I might have gone twice? Or something *cough*

Re: picspam

[identity profile] babycakesin.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
lol - how is it inside?

Re: picspam

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, it was in primary schoo, I honestly don't remember *cough*

Man, do you think they'll take away our French IDs? It would be a shame since I finally had mine renewed a couple months ago.

Re: picspam

[identity profile] babycakesin.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
well I don't know - I remember the stuff I did in primary school! *searches memories* *pauses* euh... yeah, vividly... *coughs* moving on...

nah, you just pimped Paris to your flist, they can't take it away now. As for me... well, I teach French and I eat a lot of cheese and I promote France (this week: the Loire valley *coughs*), so yeah, I'm pretty secure. the problem will be in the next All Blacks v. France game...

hey, did you hear about this - man, this is so cool! Imagine ordering the Scrubs DVD and having them delivered by Dr Cox John C. McGinley or something! or the Janitor!

HEY! *offended* I had posted a comment here and stupid LJ apparently ate it! *glares at LJ*

anyway, what I said was:
or imagine Daniel delivering your SG1 DVDs...

ahh, Paris ... lol

the unnamed bridge is the Pont des Arts, just in front of the Louvres, yes? it's a nice one since it isn't open to traffic.

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Paris sera toujours Paris! Which technically doesn't have a lot to do with anything, but whatever lol

And yes, that's the pont des Arts, thanks *g*

[identity profile] aswanargent.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, if you keep posting beautiful photos of Paris, I may have to come visit next year after all and push the computer purchase back. I suppose I should start buying lottery tickets; maybe I'll get lucky and be able to afford both. That would be so nice!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dilemna, dilemna. Should I be selfish and lure you to France with my cunning picspams, or should I let you buy your computer? *eg* But I think I'd like you to buy the comp, if only to have your more on LJ - come to think of it, I would be selfish either way lol

[identity profile] catiadoodle.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that's some awesome pictures ! Even if I live in Paris, I still love seeing pictures of it. *g*

This wedding must have been so cool...

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I was quite happy with the result - and hey, you need to be true to the beauty of Paris, right? *g*

This has nothing to do with anything, but know what? I'm thinking with all the flisters that actually live in Paris or the suburb - *waves hands* - we could do a Slash gathering as well. I mean, even if in the end we're just, like, five or six? It could be fun [/wishful thinking]

And the wedding was wonderful, yes *g* And where are the newlyweds right now? In Iceland, for their honeymoon. Classy, isn't it? lol

[identity profile] catiadoodle.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's not wishful thinking ! It definitely could be fun. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] dont_callmebabe would be delighted. And I know a couple more happy slashers in Paris.

What about a pic nic ? Or we could go to Paris Plage... I've never been there yet, but definitely want to go this year, if only to just see what it looks like.

Another LJ friend, [livejournal.com profile] spookyronny comes to Paris in August. Let's meet in august !

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been to Paris Plage, could be fun definitely. If it's not too crowded? Cause otherwise a pic nic elsewhere could be mighty fun *g* And I have at least one - or two, I need to check - Parisian on my flist...

August, yeah, let's try to do that *g*

Those pictures are just gorgeous!

And reading your comments, yes, I think a picture of where Duncan's barge would be would be a good thing *g*

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll think of the barge next time I go to Paris, with a digital camera that is *g* Since it's at Saint Michel - where I usually hang around - it shouldn't such a hardship *g*
