SG 9x04 - The Ties That Bind

Am home early cause I have an ear infection - the pain is spreading to my jaw, ie I can't open it properly, which doesn't exactly make it easy when you need to, you know, talk to people at work *rolls eyes*
Anyway.
I didn’t update my LJ on the seventh so couldn’t wish you a Happy Birthday,
rhiannon_jehane, but I’m doing it now so Happy belated Birthday to you. Hope you had a great day full of slash and multi-fandom hotness *g*
I had another relaxing morning and a busy afternoon yesterday - as per usual during the weekends. I was happy cause I got to see the Grande Parade du Festival Interceltique de Lorient [Lorient Interceltic Festival] on the telly, though I was kinda jealous because The Eclectic Parental Unit, who's spending the week in Bretagne [aka Brittany], was over there so they saw it live - they had a blast, in case there was any doubt. But because mom is so very sweet, I got to participate a little when she actually called me from the parade and made me listen to the sound of bagpipes for several minutes - I'm a big fan of bagpipes since Candy and her petit prince des collines but that's neither here nor there *cough*
Something else I found sweet is when mom told me to tell "my friend who lives in the Isle of Man that a small delegation had been present and they were quite good" so
yami_tai? I'm passing the message *g*
I also had time to watch SG before going to sleep, so as usual, a review.
Stargate 9x04 - The Ties That Bind aka Hey, I Totally Read That Children's Tale When I Was A Kid. I don't remember the title though. Which is a good thing anyway because hi! Totally not the point.
Actually, I almost want to say that the whole episode sorta came out of left field to me. I definitely can understand why people might have disliked it. Since I haven't read any review yet, I have no idea what the tendency is, but I can see why someone would have hated it - I almost dare say, as sg episode goes, that one was an oddity, almost. But I'm just really happy I'm not one of those people *g* Cause yeah, though I did think the plot - and I use the term loosely - came out of nowhere, I still enjoyed the episode tremendously. What can I say, I'm getting into that new s9 dynamic a lot ;-)
Thing is, it made me laugh... and laugh and laugh. And maybe SG-1 shouldn't exactly do that, ie it's not a comic show it's a sci-fi one and supposedly a Serious Sci-fi Show Where Bad Things Happen, but I didn't exactly care about the tangent - I went with the flow and enjoyed the ride. They'll have time to come back to their regular schedule soon enough anyway - after all, that's what they did with the previous episodes. I dunno why they decided to take a break so early, but whatever, it made me laugh, I can't hate them for that *shrug*
They had me hooked right from the first scene. Well, of course, Vala-Daniel always does it for me *g* I was all sad to see Vala go but a) the Goodbye scene was funny and brilliant and b) it wasn't a real goodbye since yay, she was back right after her departure! Which also brings me to the Daniel-collapses scene -> I love SG. Why? Because not so many shows give me a male character that collapses a) so elegantly and b) so often. Let me think, we're four episodes into the season and Daniel collapsed, what, three times already? Sweet lol
But the Fake Goodbye scene was just the first of a long series of Funny Scenes, as I came to realise. I also don't think I could pick my favourite. I mean, try picking a favourite scene between, say, We Got The Picture scene and the Am I So Repulsive scene. Well, I can't. Cameron's face when Vizzini - or Lover Boy... or WhatHisName - was telling his little tale about him and Vala made me laugh so much, man! As did Cameron's "We got the picture. Very vivid, very disturbing picture" line.
And of course, the VIP room was... good beyond the telling of it. Dude! Vala and Daniel were in top form, weren't they? I mean, I thought they were good before, but it seems they were just rehearsing lol That was quite the Vala & Daniel Show, alright. And maybe their best performance was in the VIP room - which, put like that, has quite the sexy ring to it *snicker* Because that was some dynamic interaction. So alright, maybe they should try to tone it down a little, I don't know. All I know is that I love it *shrug*
First it was bloody hilarious - maybe a little OTT somehow except not because that's just Vala and Daniel. that's what they do. Then it takes a more serious tone when Vala seems to have gotten hurt by Daniel's words and she starts with her speech, except you can't help but doubt what Vala is telling Daniel on the ground that it's Vala doing the talking, for which you feels slightly ashamed because maybe you're just being unfair - until Daniel himself calls her on it and turns out you were right in doubting what she was saying and boy aren't you good because she couldn't fool you either, could she? ;-) Then again, you're also a little relieved because you would have felt bad for thinking she was lying if she'd been 100% honest, which hopefully she wasn't at all.
It also brought me some awesome dialogue and I just adored Daniel's part: "Wait just wait, please? Stop, all right - I'm sorry. Okay. I'm sorry... I tend to forget what you've been through... if you've actually been through any of that - are you messing with me?" You go, Daniel! Don't let the wicked woman takes you for a fool. Well, for more than a fool, that is lol
Oh and that doesn't have anything to do with the rest but did you see? They did the Vala/Daniel/Table OT3 thing again. I think TPTB are in love with the visual. Can't say I can fault them for that.
We did have, like, one serious scene which I guess I shouldn't omit just because of its status of One Serious scene so okay I'll mention it here. Well, first, our SG gang looked mighty fine - which okay is quite shallow as observation goes, sorry. It's just that the whole committee was sort of old news. I see their point, too. I don't like it but we're talking about politicians so of course they would think of the money first and foremost. Nothing new here... and also, I have quite some difficulties seeing Committee Guy and not thinking OMG George Schickel is trying to shut down the program! Which actually sorta takes the seriousness out of the scene, but I guess that's my problem *cough*
Yeah, that's it.
Also,
noelql? I received the DVD! *bounces* Thankyouthankyouthankyou! And tell
deannie her French was just fine *g*
PS: Argh! My uncle broke my Comfy Armchair, the one I use when I'm sitting with Clark! Why do they always have to break something of mine when they stay over, WHY! *sulks*
Anyway.
