My god, someone must love me very much for They gave
isolde13 and
la_folle_allure the idea of doing a hurt!Dean challenge. That's so very shiny! I might even want to participate.
As it happens, I'm also tempted by the new round of
sentinelsecrets and thinking of participating as I didn't the last two - or is that three? I don't remember how many rounds there were.
Anyway, I'll see whether my muses finally want to cooperate as far as challenges go.
Unrelated now,
starwatcher307 shared with us what it was about fandom that drew her, and kept her coming back. And then she asked her flist to answer the same question. Which I did because like I told her, I love talking about fandom! And about myself, obviously.
And as usual when I write a long-ish comment in someone else's lj after replying to a fundamental question, I'm pulling a Jim Ellison and being all anal about it and thus, I'm pasting my answer to my own lj.
I think it's the people and sharing of squee. I'm not a lonely person. See, I'm a bit of a loner because I love, and need, to have 'me' time on a regular basis as well a friends or family time, but I'm not lonely; I have TheBestFriends, I have the GoodFriends, I have some pals, and then there's my family [sister, BIL, cousins] with whom I spend a lot of time too so I'm not into fandom for lack of a social life. But still, the people factor counts for a lot.
Fandom gives me the opportunity to really let my inner rambler and squeer go - it gives it free rein so to speak. Believe me when I say that all my friends and my family know all about my favourite shows, my favourite characters, my time on-line, my journal - only just by name though, I never gave them the URL or anything - my fics. They know what slash is and all know that I like it. So, like, it's not as if I hid it IRL and felt like I could only be free on-line, but! Fandom is the only place where I have people who totally get it, not because it's one of my quirks and of course you're interested in your friends' quirks because, you know, they're your friends and all, but because those people share my love for tv shows and slash and whatever.
I talk and they reply. I talk and they up the ante. It's a real exchange and man it's so incredibly cool, you know? We squee over things, disagree over others and discuss the whys of the disagreement, we talk about the silliest or most insignificant things... except they're so not insignificant for us. We develop lots of theories about stuff that wouldn't matter to anyone but us - and it's just that sense of community that I love.
Though we're often of different nationalities, we actually speak the same language because we're fans and me? Fans sometimes drive me nuts but I also love them to pieces. There's a passion in them that I'm addicted to. And being in a fandom on-line as we are makes it so much more exciting because there are all those people, who come from different countries, from different backgrounds, who are of different ages and dude, it doesn't matter. That's just mind blowing! There's an energy that is too good to miss and much generosity, too.
If I'd been told one day that I would become friends - seriously friends - with some people I'd never met, or that I would end up meeting people from the internets, I would have laughed. Except it did happen. And this is why I love fandom so much - because it opened my mind to something else.
Also, seriously? LiveJournal has a lot to do in all that. A LOT.
And finally, this is for the French Posse - minus
catiadoodle and
dont_callmebabe since they're the ones who gave me the link.

I'm blown away by everyone else's ability to express in such detail why they love fandom. *My* reason is pretty much 'well, um, I dunno ::shrugs:: I just do'
I'm *always* tempted by sentinelsecrets, but I really don't see me having the time *again* this time around to participate. oh well

Technically, I'm always tempted too - though sometimes I'm not inspired by the prompt, like one of the last times - and I'd really like to play again. We'll see how it goes.

And I'd like to add my squee to the Hurt!Dean challenge as well. If there's one thing I can thank Faith for it's the revelation to others of how deliciously Dean does the hurt. Glad there's going to be more.

I'm so with you here. I can only hope we'll get enough stories to satisfy us :-) And I'd really love to play too. Like I keep saying, we'll see how it goes *g*

Oh and btw, I have a LJ friend who was wondering:
"Is there anyone who can please translate a small e-mail from English into French for me? Please e-mail me at lea724 at gmail.com"
If you feel like it, please email her. :)

Also, I agree 100% with your Why I love fandom answer. Fandom rocks like the rockiest thing to ever rock!

Tell me about it *g*

(RL is giving me almost zero of that me-time you mentioned, so I feel like I have no idea what's going on with my on-line friends :( Hope all is well! *hugs*)

You're definitely missed these days - though not forgotten, of course *g* And yes, all is well with me, thanks, Audra :-) Hope RL will let you breathe a little easier soon *hugs*

Oh my SQUEE!!
That's awesome! I'm just all a quiver here. Man!
That's a very beautiful fandom answer, and just yes. You capture the essence of fandom so well. When all I could do is sort of go, fandom, SQUEE!!!
Dude, this is a comment of squee! I love that!

I hope we'll get lots of fics now *fingers crossed*
Thank you, I guess fandom inspires me *g* It can be so annoying at times and so great at others ;-)
