"En se servant des nombres on peut résoudre les plus grands mystères qui soient." Whee I'm watching "Point d'Origine", ie the pilot of Numb3rs in French!
Okay so first impressions, it's not that I dislike Don's and Charlie's voices, it's that they don't really compute. I'll get used to them but I wouldn't have chosen those ones. I know, it's not my job to pick dubbers, dude, I'm just sayin'. I love Amita's voice though and it makes a world of difference compared to the English version. Terry's is another favourite. Overall, I'm still satisfied.
Also, they're using 'tu' between Larry and Charlie so I'm relieved. It would have sucked so much if they'd decided to use 'vous' instead. But no, they did it right *g*
And dude! My cousin Julien just called me on my mobile:
Julien: Hey we were flipping through channels and we saw that guy on the telly. I thought about you cause that's the guy from your laptop, right?
Me: *laughs* He totally is!
I love my family lol
Oh and I love how words like 'mon frère', 'frangin' or 'papa' resonate so much more strongly in French than they will ever do in English.
Hee Numb3rs! On my telly! *dies*
[ETA: It's "Uncertainty Principle" now and I'm liking Charlie's voice a bit more already. He angsts well in French too. Yeah okay, it'll work, methinks.]
Still about tv.
crazybutsound? I've received the DVDs, thank you ever so much! So I now have all of Criminal Minds. As it happens I also have the first three episodes of The Evidence but I'm not impressed. I mean, I guess it's a good show, but I don't care about the actors and the characters so *shrug* But thanks all the same, now I'll know what people are all taking about :-)
Criminal Minds was love though. Nothing new exactly but I was finally able to see the bigger picture and oohhh I LOVE THOSE GUYS!
And it's official, I'm not so sure that I can tell you who is my favourite character in that show. I've seen quite a lot of episodes today and, each time, it's like I'm falling a bit more in love with everyone of the characters. Reid might still be #1 but, like, I think I found an ensemble cast that I love to the umpteenth degree. They remind me of the Hustle crew, where all the characters rock beyond the telling of it. Criminal Minds is like that; I love them all. Which makes each episode a delight seeing that there's not a single scene that I want to forward, know what I mean? I'm not in any hurry to leave character a to find character b. I'm happy with whoever I have on screen. It's pretty neat.
Like I was saying to SAM, that show rocks because of all its components: it has smart people all around, not just the main characters but the secondary characters too, interesting - if violent and gruesome - cases, great characters and wonderful team interaction. It also has interesting visual effects that make the profiling even more compelling. What's not to love?
What I love so much is how awesome the team is. Individually they're interesting characters, but put together they're a force to reckon with. That's on the professional front, they know each other, know their strengths and weaknesses and they know how to work around them or with them.
On the personal front, it's obvious they care for one another and I just love how they show it to us on a regular basis. It's in the banter, of course, but also in the way they interact with each other, always trying to look out for the other, always there if one needs help, they're also protective of one another and they're not afraid of proving it. Even between the men, which is something I particularly appreciate. No real macho bullshit: Morgan doesn't try to hide his worries for Reid in, well a lot of episodes - him and pretty much everyone else. Hotch isn't above coming to Gideon's help when he thinks someone is crossing the lines. Gideon is attentive and touchy feely when Hotch has been assaulted by the unsub in "Natural Born Killer" etc etc etc... I loved when Reid told Morgan about his nightmares and how in turn Morgan told Hotch and Gideon about it because he knew they could help Reid. I loved that he told Reid about his own nightmares.
There are just too many scenes when one member of the team is caring for another for me to mention them all: the point is, it happens all the time and that's one of the reasons why I love that show so much.
I also love the banter: it sounds natural and it's never mean-spirited; they're just friends teasing each other and it's sweet. I particularly enjoy when Morgan gets on Reid's case because it's just too funny and also, because Reid is so easy. But everyone teasing everyone else is love: and a scene I had to rewind several times was the Chinese restaurant scene in "A Real Rain" because it was perfect! They were all together, teasing Reid about his inability to use chopsticks and though they apparently were unable to talk about anything else but serial killers and stuff, they were comfortable and easy-going and they were laughing and, well, characters laughing is also one of my kinks, so that was a great moment :-)
As for the characters individually: I love Reid and his genius status and his inability to interact with people like a normal person would - yeah okay normal is overrated but the boy is painfully socially inadequate, so.... I love how he knows everything about everything - and I don't care that he claims he doesn't, he's like a well of knowledge and that's awesome too. I love that he's insecure about things but is also competent. The team trusts him and they let him play his part in the investigation, even when it's to interrogate suspects or pretending to be a technician and facing a madman.
Gideon is awesome because he seems to always be ahead of everyone and he's cryptic in his approach sometimes and when you finally understand what the hell he's doing you're like 'ooohhh that's so smart!' and you want to applaud him. I love that he knows so many quotes - though we sometimes hear Hotch and Reid too - and I love how he encourages his team to go further in their reasoning. He pushes them when they need to and he just lets them do their magic on their own when they can, which is a lot of the time since we're talking about a competent and efficient team. He's also attentive to them and he's there when they need him. He never makes them feel inadequate or weak and that's great.
Morgan is someone I love a lot too. I love how confident he is and the fact that, though he could be an arrogant prick, he's someone you can rely on, someone who cares about people and who is friendly and helpful. I love his way of doing his own profiles; how he talks out loud and all - when he doesn't do it, I miss it. I love how sharp he is. I love the way he relates to the other and I enjoy his relationship with Reid and Garcia in particular. He's never overwhelming or demeaning and he just seems like a great guy and a great friend. He also has a lovely sense of humour and a more carefree attitude than the others, though he's never shallow and it's clear he's been scarred by his job too.
Hotch is the character that took me by surprise, ie I thought he was an interesting character from the get go but I never imagined I would end up loving him so much. He's charismatic, a bit mysterious somehow. The guy has a lot of presence but at the same time, he seems to always be a bit in the background. He doesn't talk a lot - or, say, he's the one who seems like he talks the less - and he doesn't smile as often as, say, Morgan or Elle or JJ. It's like he feels things deeply and he takes life quite seriously. Not in a dull and boring way, just in an intense way. He's like this discrete guy who doesn't need to talk to be heard... and when he finally has something to say, he says it calmly, like each words counts and just - I love his quiet strength. Also, in "Natural Born Killer" I totally thought we'd caught a glimpse of his childhood after his last exchange with Vincent, re: the abuse. But then later in "The Tribe" the way he and his brother talked about their had me reconsider the whole thing. I'm sticking to the abusive childhood angle though because I'm an angst junkie like that but I'm not so sure it's canon...
Elle now. She's not that impatient or impetuous after all. She's confident and she empathises a lot, she kicks ass but she's not arrogant either or trying to prove anything to anyone. I love how she can do all that, ie she's not OTT, you just feel like she knows her business and she does her job. I love how she's not the token bimbo in the team, she's as efficient as the men and it doesn't even enter the equation. Her intellect and the way she thinks, what she brings to the investigation, are what count, and it's always nice when we get that. I like the way she interacts with the other members of the team, and vice versa.
As for JJ, I like her contribution to the investigation. I mean, we usually don't think of liaison with the media angle so it's interesting. She's also an integral part of the team and it shows - I don't have that much to say about her but I like her very much too.
And someone I adore is Garcia. She's funny and quirky and geeky and smart. I adore each and every single scene she has with Morgan, and I like how she teases Reid too - poor guy, he was made to be teased, I think lol I'm glad that we get to see Garcia often because I'd miss her otherwise :-)
On the slash front... I think Reid is joining my slut!character list as I quite enjoy the idea of him with Gideon, Hotch and Morgan. I'm an equal opportunity Reid slasher *nods* Also, and this is brand new, I'm slashing Gideon and Hotch as well. I don't think I really ever had TWO pairings for a same show. I know, one could argue that I have three pairings - or more if you consider I'm quite partial to threesomes - with Reid, but that's one pairing: Someone/Reid. Here I'm adding another one, Gideon/Hotch. I'm broadening my slash horizons, dude! And I can even go further, I quite like the idea of John Blackwolf/Hotch. But that's another story, I guess *cough*
