Keyboard Woe
Apr. 10th, 2006 08:05 pmHey that's a new one! So this morning pain wakes me up. To comfort myself I surf LJ, read fics and stuff. Then I decide to memorise one of the stories I've just read and when I want to edit the subject line... nothing. My beloved keyboard isn't responding. It was working just fine when I went to sleep, this morning it was dead. That's technology for you.
After different manips and still no result, I decide to take a tremendous risk, ie reboot Clark. I'm hoping it'll come back by then, you know? Except it doesn't... and this time, well, I have a slight problem because how can you use your passwords to log in - on-line, that is, Clark doesn't require a password - when you can't type them? Yeah, that's a good question. Man, you don't realise how much you rely on your keyboard - it's like it's the extension of your arms or something, you don't even notice it's there - until you can't bloody use it and you can't log in anywhere!
Thankfully, we had a spare keyboard so I'm using it now. Dude, it's all wrong! It's not even wireless... I sorta feel all restrained. Which could be nice in other circumstances, of course. Though okay it's all wrong but better in other ways so I'm not really complaining; like the keys are, I don't know, virgin keys? The markings haven't faded yet - hee, I can see the 'e' and 's' and 'd'! - and also they're smoother somehow.
Hmm? Yes, I could wax poetry about anything that has to do with computersand bore you all to death in the process, why?
Oh hey, one of the fics I mentioned earlier? Was a new Chris Kane/Jensen Ackles, and it would seem I'm getting into that pairing more and more with each new fic posted. Who would have thought?
Changing the subject,
iscaris is a star; she's spreading the Criminal Minds love and I was able to download the pilot thanks to her. I know, I should have waited for the DVD to be sent my way but man! It was there so I downloaded. The End. And my first impression was the correct one, that show rocks. And Reid too. As well as Gideon and Hotch and Morgan. Garcia is as cool in 1x01 as she was in 1x06 and Elle was different... so she's a bit impetuous? But still competent and smart, works for me :-)
The 'we call it the Reid effect' line cracked me up, and I loved the Samuel Beckett v Yoda quote battle ;-) Actually, I meant to ask: is there a place where I can find all the quotes that have been used in the show? Or is the CM wikiquotes page the only place? I know they forgot two quotes from the pilot but did they get all the others?

Batteries
Date: 2006-04-10 06:15 pm (UTC)If your keyboard is wireless, it may be as simple as putting in new batteries. And if you have a wireless mouse, I offset a battery when I'm not using it (like sleeping, or out for the day, etc). I found out that the mouse is always 'on' even if I'm not using it, which draws on the battery. Offset one after you power down the computer at night; there'll be no energy drain and the battery will last longer.

Date: 2006-04-10 06:38 pm (UTC)Ah. See, I'd forgotten that my new keyboard and mouse ran on batteries. When the mouse 'died' right in the middle of a document, it took awhile before I remembered. And then, in the WHOLE school, not one single teacher had a spare battery! Sheesh.

Yeppers. It's frightening how dependent we are.

I'm afraid it's not, let's just hope it just needed a break. Or something *fingers crossed*

Now I think I need a Reid icon...

Date: 2006-04-11 06:01 pm (UTC)But man, no keyboard! A keyboard with actual letters on it. Do such a thing even exist? I thought they all came faded away to faint lines only.
