Weekends are love...
Jul. 4th, 2009 08:13 pmWent to see Coraline last night and I really enjoyed it. I loved the aesthetics of the film; I thought it looked gorgeous. It was also creepy and disturbing in many places and overall I had a great time. I'm not sure about the ending, though, but I'll just go back to the novel if I want the real thing, so.
Then I had myself a lovely fic marathon, including one more BBB fic - I'll succeed in reading all the ones I was interested in, I have faith! - and I was so happy with that story! It was sweet and cute and funny all rolled into one and it also felt real ; teenage boys falling in love, with all the cute awkwardness that can go with it ♥ ♥ I especially enjoyed the coming out part because for once, we had a mother who reacted by crying at the news and then being upset that she reacted that way because she never meant to be that kind of mother. She immediately realised she messed up and then proceeded to be better, and I loved that part. In fics it often feels like there's no middle ground between thrilled!parents who're Oh So Happy Theirs Kids Are Gay and Homophobic parents - which, as I was saying in my comment, is a plot I do love because of the angst it brings, that's not the point here - so it was nice seeing a good and loving mother reacting negatively for a second before realising she's doing it wrong because, hey, even good people can screw up sometimes...
Plus, I could relate to the fic (which doesn't happen that often) because that's basically what happened when I came out. My mom said something really weird, then she came to terms with the situation and things got back to normal really quickly. My dad, though, he took things in stride immediately. Pretty much exactly like how it happened in the fic. The parallel was funny :-)
And now. Am having a lazy evening at home, sipping a glass of cold Desperado and surfing the net on my bigger, prettier and oh-so-comfier new couch after a lovely day spent at my sister's. Today was another hot day but this time I laughed in its face because a) I finally wore a skirt and b) The Esu set up the swimming pool so we spent some time in cool water. Bliss! Even with protection I caught a bit of a sunburn but it was so worth it ♥ ♥
