Boy howdy!
Dec. 17th, 2011 07:14 pmSitting comfortably on the couch, lights dimmed in the living room but for the tree lights and listening to some AC/DC. Nice combo if you ask me!
Right, that's not what I meant to ramble about ;-) So you know how you sometimes find yourself revisiting old fandoms? I've been doing something of the likes. I was cruising the AO3 fandom page two days ago and I stumbled up their Big Valley fanfics. One thing led to another and I ended up at a YT channel that has a whole bunch of BV episodes. So I've been spending some time at the Barkley ranch and boy howdy did I enjoy myself!
This was a lovely trip down to memory lane since The Big Valley is a show I loved when I was a kid. Incidentally it proved - again - that I already had a type even back then, because my favourite was Heath - pretty boy with daddy issues, rough past and angsty tendencies. And protective big brothers. I totally want to go back in time and pat my ten-year-old self on the head for having good taste :-)
I remember loving the relationship between Heath and the whole family but especially with Nick and, here again, I must congratulate my old self for that instinctual love for everything slashy. As well as incesty! Though, seriously, if that show was on the air now - as in, if it was one of the new shows we're watching - I bet everyone would be all over it and I can't help but think that the main OTP would have been Nick/Heath. Mind you, I'd be looking for some Jarrod/Heath too - and longing for Jarrod/Heath/Nick so that I didn't have to choose, I'm sure. Still, Nick/Heath, dude. The chemistry ♥
I didn't remember many things from the show - and, typically, the tidbits I remembered had to do with hurt!Heath - so I was absolutely delighted to watch "Palms of Glory" as if it was the first time and to realise that, wow, Nick and Heath were actually totally meant to be. That scene on the bridge? Screamed of subtext and was your typical UST At First Sight kinda scene. See for yourself! Right? And the last scene of that pilot? I bet Nick and Heath left to fuck each other right after they were finished with breakfast!
I mentioned the show to Cookie and she remembered it fondly too. I think we'll purchase the DVDs. Though I'm afraid there are no French box-set and it's a pity because, IIRC, Heath's dubbing was one I really loved and I'd love to have the French version as well as the original one. Though if nothing is coming - as unfair as it'd be, they did release Bonanza on DVD here, after all - I might just get the US box-set.
