La nouvelle année
Aug. 29th, 2019 12:22 pmTime is such an odd and unreliable construct. When september clocks in, it feels like Summer break is a lifetime away. Then you finally reach it and before you know it, you're back at work! Don't get me wrong, four weeks is a long time to enjoy your holidays and I most certainly did enjoy mine to the fullest but it's just odd because I went back to work yesterday and I couldn't shake the feeling of "but didn't my break just start last week?!"
Anyway. Yes. I had a great time :) Normandy was chill as usual and Amsterdam was fantastic! We will have to go back, though, because we couldn't do two majors museums, namely Anne Frank's House and the Van Gogh museum. You need to book in advance and not just a couple of days in advance either, apparently. At least, we couldn't grab a ticket when we were there - being in August probably didn't help. Last time I was there with my sister we just got our tickets on site but it didn't work this time so I don't know if we were just lucky then or if things have changed since. Oh, well, that way we have a perfectly valid reason to go back ;) As usual, pictures posted over at my Instagram account.
After we got back home from our little adventures we rested a bit and enjoyed some leisurely time at home doing absolutely nothing, then got a bit more active and enjoyed Paris (although the scorching heat was back so we weren't really up to our usual long strolls): I went to the cinema, we had some nice goûter in some of our favourite coffeeshops, did some shopping. We also acted as tourists and visited the Opéra Garnier. Guys, if you ever visit Paris and have the opportunity, I'd highly recommend it, it's absolutely splendid. We have a saying in French which goes en prendre plein les yeux, which English equivalent I don't know - if there is one, that is - but basically it means something is dazzling and it definitely is the case of this monument. Now that I know how it looks inside, I'm even more eager to go see a ballet there (and the eagerness was pretty high to begin with). It's on our To Do list for 2019-2020. Fingers crossed that it happens.
As usual this time of year, we're also deep in tidying up mode. We actually did some renovation as Cookie and I painted the kitchen last week or so. It was long overdue. We also made some other minor changes which, in the end, made a big difference, ie. we changed the handles of our cupboards. It just looks so much better now! We got rid of a cabinet that we'd been given quite some time ago and which was on its last legs - we didn't dare put anything back in it, actually. Its replacement is due tomorrow and I'm pretty excited over it ;) Since we were in a renovating phase, we also did some more tidying up, bought new boxes (big and small, you might remember my love for boxes and all) to make thing more convenient inside the drawers and assorted cabinets of said kitchen and then since we were at Ikea, we bought some more boxes for the bedroom so that we can do more sorting out. Aforementioned bedroom looked like a hot mess last night but we now have a new pile of clothes to donate and more space, which is perfect.
September (well, almost) truly is my New Year so I feel like it's the right time to Get Things Done and Sorted ;)
