SG 9x07 "Ex Deus Machina"

Alright. I came down from yesterday high. A tiny bit *giggles* But I did come down enough to focus on Important Matters, namely the latest sg episode, which I just watched. [livejournal.com profile] french_hobbit? The men in skirts will be for tonight, after all ;-)

"Ex Deus Machina"

  • That episode? Was pure sg-1 to me - old skool if you will. And though I've enjoyed the dynamic and pace of the new season, it felt good coming back to that kind of dynamic and pace, if you know what I mean. One could argue that it wasn't 100% sg-1 in the sense that it was a pretty much Earth-based storyline but really, I thought it was anyway. Besides, though we were mostly on Earth, we still had space brought to us there. There were goa'uld and jaffa and ships landing on buildings. Seeing all those jaffa going from one cubicle to another? In their armours and everything was a tad... surreal. While at the same time looking quite real in the sense that so far, the fight against all the Big Villains pretty much all happened in space, on other planets - or here but in other time - and seeing those guys shooting and destroying things in such a common place was weird.

  • Teal'c had lines! Lots of them. He had quite a lot of scenes too. And he smirked. A lot. I missed that. I know I already said it, but I'll say it again, I feel really bad for him. After everything he went through to free his people, he's finding himself fighting against them and is estranged from the group. That has to hurt. Talk about irony.

  • Garak is freaky. The guy is turning against everyone, isn't he? He's scary because he's not scared of anything or anyone and he'll obviously go to whatever end to assure the independence of the jaffa nation - and assure his place at the top, of course. As if the sgc didn't have enough on their plate, as it is. From one point of view, you can understand how they don't want to risk losing the freedom they gained after so much suffering, but on the other, well, they're turning into the same guys they were fighting against - that's sad to see.

  • I miss Vala. I really do *sigh* Having said that, I liked how the team worked - even though I'd love for more Cameron-Daniel interaction *wants*

  • Speaking of which, how much did I enjoy the Sg-1 Patch scene? This much! Did you see how Cameron distributed the patches - did you? He's offering it to Sam as if asking for her approval "So, do you want to be back or not?", then with Teal'c it's more of a Formal Thing, like "Will you do us the honour of fighting at our sides again for good and join sg-1 once more?" - cue to Teal'c so classy and noble little bow. But with Daniel? Cameron doesn't ask - he doesn't need his permission obviously as he just takes the old patch off and slaps the sg-1 on and the deal is done. No question asked. It's clear Daniel is Cameron sg-1's property. That little moment cracked me up! Like did Daniel's smile at Cameron's action afterwards *g*

  • Also loved seeing Landry in the background, looking at the scene. That was a nice touch *g*

  • Also on the shallow side - more shallow, that is - Daniel in the black BDUs is a thing of beauty - so he didn't wear them this time, but it's true - but Daniel in civilian clothes? Is wow! That man is so pretty... I mean, it's old news, but at the same time? Hi, it won't ever get old! Sam did show some cleavage though it was pretty tame cleavage... Sam never really takes my breath away though Amanda Tapping does, she kinda has me drool each time she appears, but that's neither here nor there.

  • And just because I can, the Patch scene - with caps and all:

Oh and this has nothing to do with the rest, but [livejournal.com profile] french_hobbit? I burnt the two first episodes of Numb3rs, I'll send them this week *g*

But with Daniel? Cameron doesn't ask

and let's hope no one will tell! *cough* That was a bit... possessive? Okay, a lot :D

I'd love for more Cameron-Daniel interaction

Landry has his orders from Jack. That's why he keeps sending Cameron off with Teal'c...

Oh, what did you think about the army of Ba'als? :D

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-28 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Possessive is definitely the way to put it, which delighted me to no end, I'll admit lol

Landry has his orders from Jack. That's why he keeps sending Cameron off with Teal'c...

Ahh, well it totally makes sense now! Thanks for the heads up *snicker*

Oh, what did you think about the army of Ba'als

Nothing, actually lol I mean, I think Ba'al is a Very Cool Villain, but I'm not drooling after him like so many fans are and to tell the truth, when I saw the last scene, it kinda make me laugh *cough* I thought they looked, I don't know, stupid, almost. Though I had naughty thoughts because talk about "having sex with yourself".
enigel: Aziraphale shielding Crawly under his wing ([SG-1] [Daniel] still the prettiest)

    [personal profile] enigel 2005-08-28 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I was laughing like a loon! Thinking Ba'al is a Very Cool Villain and laughing at the absurdity/surrealism/OTT-ism of the last scenes* are not incongruent :>

And yeah, apparently I'm far from being the only perv to see the Ba'al-cest. Yay!

    * But I understand why certain fans might feel disappointed by the direction to comedy it seems to take lately.

By the way, the Cameron/Daniel conversation inspired this:
    mine!
which I dedicate to you if you accept it :D

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-29 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So I'm not the only one who thought the scene was funny? I adore my flist, there's always someone else to share my view *g*

Ohhhhh the icon is awesome! And you're dedicating it to me? Dude! Of course I accept it, thanks *g*

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-29 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey wait, by "dedicating" did you mean "I'm giving it to you, too"? Cause wow, I just stole your icon and everything! Just let me know.

The patch scene was wonderful! I liked the episode in general, though I do really miss Vala and Jack and their senses of humor. Cameron gets in a few good lines, Sam isn't at all funny, Teal'c... well, he's Teal'c, and Daniel can be funny when they let us hear his internal dialogue, like in Crystal Skull. The show needs more humor, dammit.

Plz to be giving Cameron more to do, kthx.

But yes. I liked it. Old skool, as you said, and I generally like the earth-based episodes anyway.

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-28 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
The Patch scene was great. I love how they keep giving us good scenes like that: the Pillow scene, the Basketball scene, the Patch scene etc etc... that's nice.

We'll miss the banter soon enough. And seriously, they should let Daniel and Cameron interact more because we could get that. Of course, lots of fangirls would immediately accusing them of re-doing the Jack Daniel banter but since Cameron is - to me - so very different from Jack - for which, I'm ever so grateful - I don't see where the problem would be. Then again, many fangirls hate the show already so it wouldn't make a great difference *shrug*

    But! I digress lol

    [identity profile] naeara.livejournal.com 2005-08-28 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked that we were on Earth but it definitely weird seeing Jaffa running around cubicles and Baal saying things like "consolidation" and "streamlining of a dissolute market." Not to mention "United States". It was all very surreal. The ending was so cracked. It's like the whole season so far has been one really bizarre fanfic. :p

Having said that, I liked how the team worked - even though I'd love for more Cameron-Daniel interaction *wants*

    *also wants*

I adored the patches scene. Cameron is so possessive, lol. I am wondering now though who is in charge, Sam or Cam?

I'm feeling really bad for Teal'c too. I just wanted to hug him at the end when he seemed so defeated and down. But I admit to being glad that this is happening because it means he can come hang around the SGC more and play more basketball. ;)

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-29 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Our claims aren't that complicated: we'd like more Vala, and we'd like more Cameron-Daniel interactions. It's not as if we were asking for world peace, right? *is hopeful*

    Cameron is so possessive.

    Hell yeah *glassy eyes*

And I know! I wondered the exact same thing, who's the leader of sg-m now? I mean... I'm confused.

But I admit to being glad that this is happening because it means he can come hang around the SGC more and play more basketball. ;)

I love how you think, mate!

I really miss Vala too, but it seems that as long as she was there, there was no real team-feeling. I wonder if she is going to be back for more episodes (I'm completely unspoiled, and intend to stay that way.)

    [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2005-08-29 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
but it seems that as long as she was there, there was no real team-feeling.

I second that. It feels like we needed Vala out of the way to get that feeling again. Well, the problem has been solved anyway, hasn't it? *sigh* Poor Vala... poor us as well, because even if I rationalise it, I still miss her - and I hope we'll get her back later in the season, even if it's just for one more episode *hopes*

I loved that scene as well!! I adored how Cameron just ripped Daniel's old patch off without asking, lol, and Daniel's smile afterward. *sigh* I still believe Daniel is happily married to Jack, but I think the Cameron/Daniel interaction is fun stuff.

I also feel sorry for Teal'c and his disenfranchisement from the new jaffa nation. Hello people, he's the one who started this whole rebellion!

I second your Daniel in civvies. The leather jacket and blue jeans...guh!

Unfortunately, wouldn't miss Sam if she wasn't there for a couple more eps. But perhaps they're bringing her back in slowly because she's just coming back from her pregnancy. I hope so, otherwise, I want Vala back so we can have a two-alien team just like SGA has. *vbg* (She can't have Daniel, though, 'cause he's with Jack, but she and Teal'c, as the other resident alien, could comfort each other. Or roll their eyes at the humans.)

The Patch scene is a favourite of mine in s9 - I put it in the same list as the Pillow scene and the Basketball scene *loves*

Daniel belongs to Jack, 100% but boy... I'm kinda digging the whole Cameron/Daniel interaction too *glassy eyes*

You know I haven't seen an episode of SG this season yet I still love your reviews so much, because you focus on the important details, like this Daniel in the black BDUs is a thing of beauty - so he didn't wear them this time, but it's true - but Daniel in civilian clothes? Is wow! That man is so pretty.

*nods* Oh yes! Feel free to keep mentioning details like that one ;)

You can count on me for giving you all the important details, sis!

*beams* thanks, i'm kinda curious after your teaser the other day!

I hope the men in skirts lived up to your expectations?

thanks, i'm kinda curious after your teaser the other day!

    As you should, mate lol

Man I still haven't had time to watch the men in skirt *sigh* But tomorrow is my last day at work, so hopefully I'll catch up with all my movies in the next days *g*
