Okay. So. On the question of Ugly Betty; [livejournal.com profile] rosengirl, you'll be happy to know that I think I could get into it. Once you focus on the crack and accept that the whole OTT and stereotypical thing is part of it, it get easier to go with the flow. It's crack and funny and it can be quite touching too.

Also, I really do like many of the characters: Betty is all kinds of awesome - though, boy, does she make me cringe sometimes! - the whole Suarez clan is very dear to my heart - I adore Justin! And I adore that his character is the way he is - and I really like Christina. Daniel has daddy issue and big brother issue and confidence issue and that's of the good. Oh and I'm happy because Christopher Gorham's character came in the picture and I can't wait to see more of him.

And speaking of shows that recently made it to France. I watched the first two episodes of Friday Night Lights on Sunday. I liked it. It wasn't Love at First Sight or anything but I watched both episodes from start to finish. Which surprises me a bit because I don't give a damn about American football. I tried to watch a match once - from the Superbowl - and it made me laugh. But apparently FNL caught my interest.

Though, wow, the religious theme is so heavy! No wonder so many things are screwed up in our world; God is apparently way too busy dealing with American football! QED.

Anyway, this is another show I'll try. See if I wanna follow it every week. Technically it's not my kind of show but you never know...

On the book front now. I'm halfway through Liquor by Poppy Z Brite and I'm having a blast. If you enjoy queer lit - which, dude, I didn't forget who I'm talking to, I'm just sayin', is all - and food? This book is for you. Food porn, guys, food porn. And friendship and love. With a serving of mystery - this is Brite, after all. What's not to love?

Yeah, pretty much everyone I've seen talk about FNL mentions how even if you don't like American football you should give the show a try because the football is the least important part.

To be honest, I couldn't even get to the part where I could make up my mind about the football - I just couldn't get past all of the religious stuff.

It's a pity, because I hear it's an amazing show, but the second they started praying before a game was the second I knew this was not my cup of tea. ;)

I do love Ugly Betty, though.

Hi, I have an exam tomorrow today, which I will fail because I didn't even really study (I don't even know why I applied for it, really, I knew I wasn't gonna study) and I should go to sleep but I don't wanna. And how are you doing? :D

Liquor is wonderful. I love to read about food and what's not to like about GMan and Ricky really. I love how matter of fact their relationship is. You might want to look for The Value of X which is kinda of the prequel to Liquor, it deals with the time Ricky went to NY, how their family know but act as if they are only friends.

I love this series a lot. It's a shame that Poppy isn't ready to write again in that universe and that the editor didn't understand how to sell this series. It's about food, life and friendship, the mystery is just garnish.

I tried watching both Ugly Betty and FNL and urgh. Though at least Ugly Betty didn't take itself seriously so while it was boring to me, I could get the crack value of it. But FNL just didn't do anything for me. The boys and their coach are pretty, obviously, but that's about it, lol. I quite enjoyed the first ep of the Sarah Connor Chronicles, though. Pretty girls and lots of explosions, more my style. *g*

Also, is what you're reading a sequel to The Value of X? *is curious* And you wouldn't by any chance consider bringing it with you this weekend? *sheepish grin* Just so I can have a peek? I didn't really like the writing for the Value of X but I enjoyed the characters and so now I'm not sure whether I want to buy more in the series or not. If I could have a peek and see what the style is for this one, it might help me make up my mind. Pretty please? I'll give you a couple of books for your trouble, if you want. :-)

PS: if you don't have it and want it, The Value of X is yours, actually. :-)

FNL is on French tv? *is clueless*. I too enjoyed tonight's episodes of UB. There's a high crossover factor with The OC which doesn't hurt ... lol

[identity profile] lilisullivan.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)

I love Ugly Betty. It definitely took me a few shows to get into it, but you fall in love. Seriously!

I've never watched FNL, probably because it takes place in Texas and all of the religious overtones. *puke* That would really make me sick!

As for football in general, it's a fantastic game! My team, the Green Bay Packers, are one game away from going to the Superbowl! That would be so freaken' brilliant, let me tell you. I've got my Packers lanyard on and everything right now. It's a confusing game, stop and go, but once it's been explained to you and you watch a few, it's the best. I missed it SO much whilst in France.

Ugly Betty is really great, it's not the best show in the world lol but it's so fun :D

I didn't know FNL was airing here 0_o

I'm happy you changed your mind for Ugly Betty! It's a great show.

I adore Justin too, is so cute and funny. I love Betty and Daniel, Marc and his bff Amanda and of course Marc and Willie. I'm watching season 2.

Did you read "le corps excquis" by P.Z Brite?

I wonder what everybody has with FNL...

j'aimerais comprendre parfois :s

I'm glad that Ugly Betty has won you over. I love that show - I really need to get an icon for it...
