I've resurrected my GoodReads account. Wait, that sounds a bit dramatic; I never deleted it but it has been seriously neglected the past year: case in point, I'd failed to add a "2010-reading" bookshelf! I'm full of shame these days, really #TheStateOfMe

Upon deciding to start using it again, I decided to add more books from my (real, physical) bookshelves because, so far, I was only adding novels that I'd been reading since I opened aforementioned GR account, nothing prior. And it made me feel jealous to see people with hundreds of books on their profile. So I decided to remedy it and change my 'policy'. I don't know if it's annoying for people to have a whole bunch of updates popping up every day when they check their contact lists but I'm afraid I can't get around it. And I won't add all the books I own, anyway...

Speaking of GoodReads, does it traumatise anyone else when you want to add a new book and the edition of your own copy doesn't come up in the suggested list? It always pains me to click on the "wrong" cover!

It's nothing compared to the pain of finding out that the edition you have of one of your favourite author has changed its covers and the next novels you'll buy won't have the same look as the others you already own. I lived through that difficult situation just a couple of days ago when I went searching for new John Irving books to buy and realised the books at the store were from the same edition, yes, but of different style. Which is even more traitorous, if you ask me. Then I felt traitorous because I kinda liked the new look better.

Ok, moving on! *cough* I'm Mouse over at GoodReads. If you want to add me, be my guest :-)

Unrelated, you know how there are some commercials that just too damn cute? The most recent Oreo commercial is among them - the one I'm talking about is in French but they're basically the same all over the world, apparently? This the version with a little a little girl explaining to her dad how to eat Oreos ("you don't have to say 'yummy' but me? I can't help it") and forbidding him to give it a try at the end because she "doesn't think he's ready for it". Just love her little voice and that lisp of hers, which is adorable.

Yes! I'm right there with you! That always bugs me. lol

I wanted to watch the commercial, but the university's IT apparently thinks it a Phishing threat. Ugh. I'll have to check it out later.

Yes, yes it does. Especially since I always go by ISBN numbers, so the covers should match, dammit!

and the next novels you'll buy won't have the same look as the others you already own.

I've been known to buy duplicate books of my favourites, just so the covers would match. It's an illness, I admit. ;)

It makes me feel twitchy when my books don't match. Especially if they are all part of the same series. They need to match!!

Hehe, I'm glad I'm not the only one who buys duplicate books :P

I think it's even worse if the size of the books don't match either. But yes, it's the downside of buying an ongoing series or something. Editors should pay more attention to that I think. And yay for Goodreads. Not that I've been around there very much lately (not at all since Roeland was born actually), but I'll definitely get back once I read more again :P

OMG yes, it drives me nuts - and don't get me started on libraries that buy a series but not in the same format - and then don't even put the whole series together on the shelves... it makes me cringe every single time. The library is obviously mine, and the series is Harry Potter - come on, people, we're supposed to be professionals!

And thanks for the ad, it's cute indeed!

Yay for book dorkiness. :D

I just...they need to match! I've been getting better and stopped buying doubles of books I don't love (because I know I won't be rereading them all that much, so I can ignore the wrongness) but I honestly can't stand it if my favourites don't match.

That advert is so cute :)

But I have to admit, the book thing doesn't bother me. So I'll creep out before being lynched by you and your commenters *g*

I just added you! The cover thing doesn't bother me as much as not being able to keep some things private. I don't necessarily want my pastor's wife knowing I've read gay erotica, and it pains me to not keep everything recorded in the same place.

They should match! Why can't they match? *stomps foot*

I've been known to do that a couple of times for some of my favourite novels, too :-)

They most definitely need to match! It makes me twitchy too, I just knew people around here would agree! *feels validated*

Oh the size of the books, yes, it is worse when it doesn't match either! Honestly, it makes you regret not having bought the whole series in one go. But, well, a) you're never really sure you'll get into and b) there's the money factor. But it'd make things easier!

Feels like I've been more active at GR the past week than I've been the past year lol It is a great site.

Taking care of a baby on top of everything else would make you just a tad too busy to take care of things like GR, I get it ;-)

I knew you understood, dude *high five* La nouvelle édition des Irving est complètement différente, jusqu'à la taille qui n'est plus la même. Ils ont tout chamboulé ! Et sans me prévenir, en plus. Les vaches !

You're welcome, I just love it ;-)

It is, isn't it? I just love it ;-)

*gasp* Really?

Dude, see, I didn't know that about you. Guess we can surprise each other even after all those years ;-) And, well, we'll say you're the exception that makes the rules... and we'll keep it a secret in this thread lol

I saw and added you back :-)

I hadn't thought of that! I can imagine how awkward it could get... it'd be nice if they could give people the choice to get some books private, yes.
