Omg, you guys, I had such a hectic week at work! And I was so not into it it wasn't funny; I kept forgetting Important Things (including some meetings) and it is a miracle that no catastrophe ensued! I was so ready to being done with it that by Thursday I was (genuinely) wishing co-workers "a good weekend!" as they left! Believe me when I say that the moment when I realised that there was one more day to go was crushing lol

Anyway, it's Saturday now and I'm having such a relaxing time ♥ No lie-in, sadly, but my only plan is to go to my parents' later in the afternoon so I've been lazying around all morning, reading more of my book (The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, which I'm enjoying so very much!) listening to 1D, reading fic and watching videos - the usual!

Last night especially was glorious as I was basking in 1D stuff with the knowledge that it did not matter if I got to bed late, there was no obligation to cut the fun short so my evening was filled with fic and primers, more interviews, more videos and a series of mails that were beautiful to read and fun to reply to ;) It's good being a fan, I'm sure you know the feeling.

On the subject of being a fan and enjoying things that could be considered... well, maybe a bit shameful in a "you're-an-intelligent-person-why-do-you-like-that-band/show/book/whatever", [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer linked me to this pretty clever article written by a "23-year-old lady with a job and an income and a brain and a social conscience" who loves "One Direction more than she's ever loved any other band or celebrity".

The wonderful thing about this article is how unapologetic and uncompromising it is. Because, ultimately, we should always allow ourselves to love what we love, no matter whether the source is perceived as "bad" and remember that enjoying something can never be bad thing. (Though I'm afraid I feel compelled to add that when I say this, I think of the majority of fans, those who enjoy something genuinely and for the fun of it, who are invested, yes, but never disrespectful and who still remember the definition of words such as "boundary", "privacy" and '"respect", but I guess that's neither here nor there. )

This means owning up to enjoying the things I enjoy, no apology made. I often use the phrase "guilty pleasure" to describe some of my shows even though I seldom truly feel any guilt but maybe I should just ban the "guilty" part altogether... it's easier said that done, mind you, because would I go out in the street wearing a 1D tshirt just like I do wearing a Doctor Who tshirt? I don't think so. Hey, there is always room for improvement!

It also means being more conscious about the fact that sometimes we can be quite dismissive about what others enjoy because we think our tastes are better. I'll confess that I'm guilty of this phenomenon as well sometimes. But I'll try to be better. Let's say this is a new resolution for 2014, try and be less... snobbish, I guess, towards certain things. Or more open-minded, Idk. Plus, I guess we sometimes tend to forget there's a difference between who someone is and what someone likes. Admittedly, it sounds so obvious but I think we have the tendency to forget now and then.

You like 50 Shades of Grey? Good for you! You un-ironically enjoy Twilight? You go, mate! I still have strong opinions about those but let's just focus on the essential point here, that we're both fans ;)

LOL All that brought to you because I spent many a-night watching Louis Tomlinson's face and cooing at Liam and Zayn petting him and making him laugh ;)
