There is a TV God!
Nov. 12th, 2004 08:34 pmHey, I found something amusing while reading the latest issue of
lost_news - ie what some of our beloved characters were originally meant to be : The burned-out English rocker played by Dominic Monaghan, was originally envisioned as a middle-aged businessman with a drug problem. Sawyer, the troublesome American played by Josh Holloway, was going to be a New Zealander. And Jack, the heroic (so far) spinal surgeon played by Matthew Fox, was going to be much older. And since he was also meant to die in the first episode, a one-shot appearance, high-priced movie stars like Michael Keaton and Aaron Eckhardt were being considered for the part.
This? Is the ultimate proof that there is a TV God somewhere who looks after us, little TV junkies, and whose only goal is to make us happy - because my Charlie? A middled-aged businessman? Huh... yeah but see... no. Sorry. And let's not talk about Jack. Though Original!Charlie sorta traumatised me... considering how much I like Dom!Charlie, I mean *frowns* No wait. Don't like that combination *pout* Let's do it again --> Considering how much I like Dom Managhan!Charlie... yeah, that's better *nod*
Or it can be considered as the ultimate proof that Geniuses will save the world... because the guy/girl who decided to change the characters and some of their backstories? Is a genius. Pure and simple, and I'll be eternally grateful.
Oh and speaking of Lost. There was a new Locke/Charlie posted at
lost_slash which was just grand. I'm not saying you'll love it, but I definitely did and if you're curious about that pairing, you should give it a try, seriously *g*
ETA: Woohoo - Domino Day started! Am such a Domino Geek. I love those Domino Toppling World Records.
ETA2: Eeeek, they picked two French Builders to do the third challenge! 100.000 dominoes are at stake, man! The Germans lost the second challenge, let's see if the French can succeed.
...
Don't look at me like that - being a dork is not only allowed on LJ but encouraged! It's a way of life!
ETA3: They failed too! And they're crying now - awwww don't cry, guys *hugs them*
ETA4: Squeeee! They did it, they did it - 3.992.387. New World Record! *bouncebounce*
...
I'll shut up now *sticks tongue*

Date: 2004-11-12 02:24 pm (UTC)and about the characters, pfew! looks like on l'a echappe belle! (don't know how to say it and too lazy to look, lol)
i don't know why they would have wanted to make them all older like this, seems a bit weird doesn't it? i have to laugh at the Sawyer-as-a-New-Zealander-thing, because NZ is to Oz what Belgium is to France, but with beautiful landscapes ... lol

Date: 2004-11-12 03:07 pm (UTC)That's the first thing I thought too - why originally pick old/older characters? It puzzled me a bit because if you want to attract the kind of audience they're currently having, you don't choose a majority of middle-aged characters. That's not how it works - might be unfair, but that's how it is.
Also, pretty interesting to find out that Jack wasn't originally mean to be the hero/leader he is now, and was in fact supposed to die early on.
And yes, the Sawyer bit made me laugh too lol
