Spoiled spoiled SPOILED - that's what I was tonight *g* The parental unit? Got me a I-can-watch-Numb3rs-snuggled-up-in-bed-from-now-on device! Aka Divx player! Yes, I have one now and I can watch my CDs from my bed! Charlie and Don... from my bed! I mean, can it get better than this? I don't think so. Well, I suppose Charlie and Don... in my bed might have been better. If I'd been straight. So watching them from my bed is definitely enough for me. The Esu spoiled me too and just, I had this huge smile on my face the all time, you know?

My flist was awesome as well. I got the best wishes ever and the most gorgeous cards *kisses Flist* As well as pretty and shiny presents - *kisses [livejournal.com profile] aswanargent and [livejournal.com profile] french_hobbit and [livejournal.com profile] yami_tai again*

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] yami_tai? You'll never guess what she got me... Firefly the complete series! Am not kidding, man, the shiny boxset is M.I.N.E! So I already watched the pilot and... yeah okay, now I can officially say that I understand why the fuss over this series - it got me too *g*

The mixture of different time periods as well as different cultures is quite fascinating, I'll admit. I'll also admit I was a tad skeptical when I heard people talk about it but it works... definitely works.

The female characters are all... wonderful! Well of course they're absolutely gorgeous and yeah, I certainly noticed, thanks, but more than that they're just awesome women, all with something different which attracts me and seriously I keep wondering: how come Joss Whedon always creates such strong, assertive, deep, loveable, complex female characters? I mean, in any other show, you'll get one female character like that. And if you're so lucky there's no words for it, you'll get two, maybe. And okay I might be exaggerating, but sadly, not by much. But Joss-verse? Always has a lot of those characters and just, how does he do that? And why can't others be like him?

But anyway, I don't know who's my favourite, though somehow I'm leaning towards Inara and Zoe... then again, I fucking love Kaylee too, she's so smart and radiant... kinda my kind of girl. Mind you, I only watched the pilot so I'm just talking without really knowing, but well, that's my first impression at least *g*

As for the guys, I'm rooting for Simon, of course. I'm saying 'of course' because, obviously, I just know myself very well and as soon as he appeared on screen I thought, That's him! That's the character you're going to love, Mouse. Trust me on that one. Which I do. Trust myself, I mean. Mal is... a character I'm quite enjoying too, just for different reasons and not to the same extent I'm already enjoying Simon's character but he definitely has potential. Book is great as well. As for River [am back with the girls, here, I know] I have the feeling I'm going to enjoy the ride - so all in all... I'm sorta hooked already lol And this is just the pilot. Dude! It's going to be interesting *blink*

Also, now that I finally watched the show, I'm recognising familiar faces and like okay so Zoe was Jasmine and Jayne was Hamilton in Angel. Mal, that was Caleb in Buffy... I'm pretty sure I saw River too and I'd say Angel though er, all right, I'm not sure which episode that was... And since my brain is fried from a) all the shiny I got for my birthdays and b) the fucking heat which is still going strong at almost 2.00 am, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to recognise the others... so did all of them actually feature in Angel or Buffy?

And now, though I'm supposed to go to sleep, I think I'll just play with my pretties again *sparkling eyes*

I'm thinking of calling him Charlie, actually lol He's so pretty and shiny and he looks so smart - and though he seems unassuming he actually kicks-ass and makes me discover wonderful things via my CDs, so you know... kinda fits *g*

I think with Joss it's two things: the first is that in interviews it's clear that he has a deep and fundamental respect for women. The second is, in everything he does, he's always looking for the unwritten side of the story, the unseen, the liminal. You don't get much more unwritten than women, historically, and it's all the more challenging and undiscovered country when you're a man. When you're trying to hear what's not being said, you're *listening*, and you get your ego and your preconceptions out of the way, mostly.

Enjoy, enjoy!

Pretty good on the guest starrage -- Summer Glau (River) was on the AtS ep "Waiting in the Wings" as the ballerina chick... there's also Carlos I don't know his last name, who was the third passenger in the FF pilot, the one who turned out to be narc, and who's also in both BtVS and AtS -- he's in BtVS 3x01 "Anne" and AtS, uh, 1x09? "Bachelor Party," making him the first BtVS-AtS-FF hat trick. There's one other major one, and a few who have bit parts in everything. :)

[man, I'm obsessed.]

The ballerina! Yes, that's her, thanks a lot! So it's definitely a trend, I like that *g*

Happy birthday, Mouse! Joyeux anniversaire! Man, so very happy to hear you loving Firefly! Isn't it just a beautiful show? The girls are all so beautiful and strong and snuggable, and the guys are funny and strong and also snuggable, though Mal is kind of prickly too. *g* Yay!! And what [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle said about Summer Glau (River) being on Angel. Her ballerina role in "Waiting in the Wings" was basically her audition for Firefly, I heard, cuz Joss loved her so much he knew he had to have her for his new show :)

It is a beautiful show, I second that. The whole cast is incredible. And really? That's a lovely story *g*

I already found an archive - cause puh-lease, I couldn't wait - namely The Firefly's Glow Archive, it has slash and everything and a Search Engine which usually is a factor of Good Archive, but since you never know... is there another archive somewhere? Or did I find a great one? And if you have sites to rec me, please, do so, I'm all ears *g*

Firefly's Glow is a good archive. There's also a bunch of good recs at Crack_Van and I have some links listed here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/ship_manifesto/12418.html

[livejournal.com profile] fireflyslash is probably the most active place right now for fic and there's some good stuff posted there.

God bless Joss Whedon for not being afraid of writing normal fucking women. He writes them good, bad, slutty, sharp, brainless, EVERYTHING. Not just either Lara Croft or the "weepy wife" or something.

Thank God he's the one doing Wonder Woman.

And now...*deep breath*...

Happy Birthday, Baby Mouse!!!!! *smoooooooooooooooooooch!!!*

God bless him indeed for he always knows how to write complex and compelling women - be it a psycho one or a cutie one. It's like he's not creating a female character but a character, period. Makes all the difference, apparently.

And THANK YOU *smooches back*

Firefly!!!! yay! about what you say on women, there were flyers here for the Serenity previews, and they said something like "Firefly, where men are men and women are ... strong, intelligent, beautiful ..."

and River was a dancer! is a dancer! how cool is that?

Firefly rocks my world already, woohoo! And yeah, nice description lol

She's a real dancer, then? So when she played the ballerina in that episode of Angel, she wasn't really playing one, just being one? Lovely *g*

Very smart of you to jump on the Firefly bandwagon before the Big Damn Movie comes out (and you'll get that reference soon).

Joss really does have such a handle on writing strong, complicated women. Like someone said above, he has a huge respect for women -- he calls himself a feminist and calls Buffy a feminist show. He's a guy who really understands that women are just people, as complicated as any man. I love him so much for that.

I'm thinking of Serenity differently now. I'd already planned on going with a friend of mine when it came out but for different reasons, now I'll be able to go as a Firefly fan, and it'll make a world of difference *g*

I like Joss Whedon more and more *g*

*cough*3.30 am*cough* But from a certain POV, I was kinda reasonable, I could have pulled a all-nighter for that one. But I needed to wake up at 8.00 am so I didn't want to push it. Though I'll admit to be a bit sleepy today *rubs eyes*
