Numb3rs 2x14 - Harvest.
Jan. 31st, 2006 11:37 amI finally watched Veronica Mars 2x11 and Numb3rs 2x14 yesterday.
I wasn't exactly ecstatic with the latter at first, I'll have to admit. But it got better at one point, so I still enjoyed several scenes.
My main problem with the episode was - and I'm sorry to say - the Amita's centricism. I love how brilliant she is and I love that she's part of the Geeky Trio but, I'm sorry, I don't care enough about her to enjoy an episode in which she is the central point. I would have loved if it had been Megan, but Amita? No. And also because of something else; since Amita was involved so much in the episode, it means that she got to have more dialogues than usual, which means we got to hear her a lot and OMG BUT I CAN'T STAND THE WAY SHE TALKS!
I know, I know it has to be one of the lamest explanations why someone doesn't enjoy another character but it's no less true, it's almost physical - each time she talks, I want to kick something. So it wasn't of the good.
So Ihad to fast forward didn't pay attention that much when she was there, which incidentally made me miss the kiss the first time. Typical lol
Anyway, I did enjoy some stuff:
Larry and Charlie doing Their Thing in Charlie's house. Those two... it's almost like they're catching up with their childhoods sometimes. You know, doing all kind of mischiefs and trying new stuff that annoy parents? Though I was surprised at Alan's reaction, I mean he did sound a bit short with Charlie and he's usually pretty lenient as far as weird experiments go. Besides, it's not even for fun but for work...
The scene with David, Colby and Charlie at the FBI. I don't know why I loved it so much, but I sure did. Though wait, no I know why; it has Charlie doing the whole theory explanation I enjoy so much so of course it was of the good, even if Don wasn't there. And I loved how it was Colby who called him. Also, as details go, I loved how he was dressed, down to the short jacket with a-bit-too-long-sleeves - as usual - and I even liked his hair... though I'd love it he cut it to something resembling season 1 haircut, but okay, that's beside the point *cough*
The conversation between Alan and Don. Don's "you'd think brothers would match" sounded multi layered to me. It's in the way he said and his face. That was interesting, I thought.
Finally, the last scene. I don't think I'll ever get tired of those scenes with Amita and Larry being practically part of the family. It feels so comfortable, so easy... Secondary characters in Numb3rs aren't just accessories, I love that! And that scene made me smile a lot: it's in the dialogue and all, of course, but it's also in the facial expressions. They're priceless. Charlie's, Larry's - I loved them.
I loved Alan and Don teasing Charlie about his fear. Which btw made me smile as well because when Larry was telling him about his own fear of having his organs stolen, he sounded amused more than anything... and here he was, with an irrational fear of his own. Though for honesty's sake: the whole looking dead but not being really dead is also something I'm not comfortable with lol
The last lines were love, the whole 'I'll get your...' was fantastic :-) I also enjoyed how natural the whole banter sounded.
So, okay, not what I'd call the best episode, by far, but I did enjoy the scenes I mentioned and sometimes it has to be enough :-)
Veronica Mars now: you were right, GD, those first minutes truly were nothing compared to what happened next. That was fun *g* Also - and it's not a spoiler - I loved the Lost reference. How cool is it when a show does that kind of thing? In particular when they're actually rivals? Really cool, yes!
Finally... is there a place where we can find some spoilers for Prison Break? Some details about upcoming episodes and stuff like that?

Date: 2006-01-31 02:09 pm (UTC)You are also right in that, had it been a Megan-centric ep, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
I was also taken aback by Alan's annoyance over the experiment. (I tried to put it off to The Bathroom Incident still looming large in their lives. *eg*) I wonder if there's going to be some more tension about the fact that he's now living in Charlie's house? They seem to be building to something like that. First with him volunteering to host Val's wedding, then the 'my house...your house' comment, and this disgruntlement....
Yes, Charlie's hair looked much better in this ep!! But I also wish he'd return to season one hair.
*dies* Don's statement about brothers matching, omg, I thought he sounded so...lost. *pets Don* Don't worry, Donny, You and charlie will match.
The teasing at the end was the best part. You know how much I (meaning we, lol) love the family stuff. And Don's humor can be so dry sometimes. The line about getting more respect, and having Charlie's back...and calling him Chuck. *dies from the happy*

Date: 2006-02-01 11:52 am (UTC)I think there's a story behind Alan's annoyance. I'll either wait to see it develop in the show or in a fic, but it sure intrigues me *nods*
But I also wish he'd return to season one hair.
You and me both *longs for it*
I love Don's dry humour, oh yeah! And when it's directing at Charlie, it's even better lol That was a wonderful last scene *loves*

Also, that Guide to TS on LJ that I created awhile ago. If you're interested in linking to it from your community info page, I'd be delighted. I really don't know how else to let people know that it's out there as a resource, instead of letting it gather dust. *g*
Thanks for your time!

Date: 2006-02-01 05:45 pm (UTC)And sure, I'll let Terri know about it but I don't think this will be a problem. At all. Thanks :-)
Also sure, I'll link to the newbie guide. That's a nice idea after all as some newbies sometime pay us a little visit and I'm sure they'd appreciate a direct link to it. Lovely idea *g*

Date: 2006-01-31 11:10 pm (UTC)Hm, I'm not sure I'd have been okay with a Megan-centered episode just yet. ;) In fact, it all depends on how they do them - Amita's was rather cliché, compared to Larry's (not to David's episode, though).
Yeah, I don't like how Amita says her lines either. It's not the voice, it's something about the way she uses it. Megan's voice, OTOH, sort of grates sometimes, sorry. But only the voice, not the way she talks, so she wins. ;)

Date: 2006-02-01 11:59 am (UTC)No worries, I love Megan's voice enough for the two of us lol And if you can appreciate the way she uses her voice at least and she still wins over Amita, then I'm happy ;-)
Also, about Numb3rs on M6? So I sent an email sometime ago and I finally received a reply: they don't have the slightest idea when it'll air. I'm wondering if they even knew what the hell I was talking about *rolls eyes* So we'll have to wait again...
