Feb. 29th, 2004 08:01 pmOhhh thanks to
epistrophia, I found a lovely site. See, she mentioned The Archers, a radio soap opera- well to be more exact it's the British radio's longest running soap opera- and I couldn't resist, I had to see what the deal was *g*
The thing is, I *love* radio drama shows. I love being told stories- loved it when I was a kid, and love it still. I never listen to them on the French radio though, because I always forget where to look for them. Anyway, when I read
epistrophia's post, I got curious, so googled my way to the BBC Radio 4 site, where I realized I could listen to The Archers online *beaming*
Not only did I found this soap opera --which I'm listening to right now btw lol-- but lots of others. I perused the BBC Radio Player (Radio on Demand) and found little gems :
- Afternoon Play : Dramatic form to delight, surprise and inform
- Book at Bedtime : Fiction, including modern classics
- Book of the Week : Non-fiction, including biography and travel
- The Friday Play : Thrillers, detective fiction and love stories
- The Saturday Play : Thrillers, mysteries and love stories
Etc etc.
It's just so cool! It'll also help me with oral English, which is a nice bonus. American English is pretty easy to understand, but the British one is a tad more difficult sometimes- for me that is. I also prefer British English vs American English- so I'm not against 'practicing' it via online radio *eg*
Plus, it seems I arrived right at the good time for this Archers thing, because apparently this Adam guy came out sometime ago, and he met a certain Ian, and according to
epistrophia, there could be some nice m/m relationship in the near future. Nice, isn't it? lol
Oh boy, I'm now listening to a soap opera- who would have thought? *shakes head*
There's something else that makes me smile about The Archers ; see, I'm pretty sure Peter Wingfield played in that soap opera. I mean, I'm 99,99% sure of it!
RL-wise now. I spent a great day at my grand-father's with the whole family, godfather/aunt/cousins included. We celebrated my sister's birthday (she's 22 now *g*). We chatted, laughed, ate too much, did some gardening as well, which in turn gave way to much silliness.
In other words, much fun was had *g*
ETA: I knew it, I KNEW it! PW did play in The Archers. Man, I'm so good sometimes lol He played Simon Pemberton from 1995 to 1997. Hmm, I bet it's more than you ever wanted to know, uh? lol Hey, it's Peter Wingfield- guys! Methos!

Date: 2004-02-29 12:15 pm (UTC)Oh, stop! You know you are going to make me start listening to it!! Can I resist the temptation of m/m? Hmm, I think we all know the answer to that!

Date: 2004-02-29 12:39 pm (UTC)*puts hands up in the air* S'okay I give in, I'm gonna have to listen to it in the evenings this week. Mainly cos I can't get my head around an m/m relationship in the Archers of all things!!! I mean normally this sort of thing is all over the tabloids; well, it is when it comes to Coronation Street and the like, so I can't believe I've not heard anything about it before *incredulous*!

How that for great and slashy news, uh? lol

Date: 2004-03-02 11:47 am (UTC)It's great! All of our soap operas (tv and now radio!) seem to be jumping on the bandwagon though to be honest, there's not many haven't tried the 'gay' storyline yet! Makes me wish I liked soap operas *grins*!

Date: 2004-02-29 12:21 pm (UTC)I can't believe you're willingly listening to that. Most people mock it here *g*
Not that I've ever listened so I wouldn't know. Which yeah makes me bad for mocking something I've never heard.

Date: 2004-02-29 12:30 pm (UTC)I'm still listening to the thing, but I'm more focused on the Ian/Adam scenes that anything else for now. Bad listener that I am! *eg*
Let's try and listen to the other storylines for a moment, shall we? lol
You won't ever see me watching a soap opera on TV- but somehow when it's in a different language, and in a different setting, here on radio- it sounds better *g*
*goes back to her tacky show*
