Lazy Sunday
Dec. 18th, 2005 02:35 pmDude! I've fallen victim to the Cough of Doom. From Hell. Like 70% of my flist it seems. But seriously, it's been quite a long time since it happened. Ouch.
So yesterday I worked all night. Made good money too. And no, I'm not trying to do some live research for my "Night" series, thanks ;-) I was Coat Hanger girl. Fascinating work as you can imagine. But a) money and b) more money as we got tips. Not that much, but still, 11€ each is 11€, right? The soirée started well and ended... quite differently. A guy punched his wife and almost broke her nose. Right on the parking lot. They came back to the building after a man escorted them and we thought the woman had been assaulted. Which yes she had, only it wasn't a stranger but her fucking husband! She was terrified and bleeding from her nose and just - man, that was so upsetting. She kept saying how "this time was the last time" and how "she wouldn't forgive him this time" and man, it wasn't the first time he'd done that kind of things, you know?
She was taken care of - far from that poor excuse of a man and then other guys started to get on his case. A couple because they loathed the idea of a man hitting a woman, a couple others because they were drunk and just wanted to "have fun". It resulted in a group of macho guys all trying to intimidate each other - doing the macho posturing thing in quite an aggressive way. I loathe violence but I have to say I wish Hitting Husband had tasted of his own medicine. Security Guys arrived and they took care of the whole thing. When my dad came to see us afterwards, he explained quite sarcastically that Hitting Husband had explained it all. His wife "deserved it and had it coming", she'd apparently bugged him all night et voilà. So fucking disgusting.
When they tried to call the police the woman refused - all I know is that she didn't leave with him at least. But it's just so sad because, I mean, it was obviously not the first time he hit her - odds are it won't be the last. Unless last night was the last straw. I don't know. It was quite shocking.
After that, people started leaving and dude, they were all drunk. By then, my dad, his friend and associate and two friends of ours who happen to work with us too were watching everyone like a hawk. No one else was aggressive - just the moronic behaviour of drunk people. Man, I'll never understand how people can enjoy that. They're not cute, they're not funny, they're not sweet, they make fool of themselves and they're jerks. The Esu and I were soooo ready to call it a night, really.
In the end, everyone was gone by 3.30 am, and it was definitely my favourite part of the night lol
Woke up - because of my lungs trying to find their way out of my body - at 9.00 am, which means I slept around four hours so er you can trust me when I say I won't do anything too strenuous today lol
Actually I plan on snuggling in bed and a) watching the new Numb3rs then b) catching up on Lost. I have most of the episodes ready to be watched so I'll do that today, methinks. Nice Sunday program :-)
And what the hell, a Christmas meme.
1. Do you have a real or fake Christmas tree?
Real one. We used to have a fake one when we lived in our apartment because it wasn't convenient but when we moved in the house we got big and real trees :-) It's a Nordmann so that it doesn't lose its needles.
2. Do you put up Christmas lights on the exterior of your home?
Yes.
3. What's your favorite Christmas song/carol?
I'll go for a pop one, All I Want For Christmas, the version by Olivia Olson.
4. What do you like better - turkey or ham?
For Christmas? Because I don't think I ever ate ham for Christmas - and turkey isn't that traditional either. We love to eat chapon in this household, which is capon in English apparently :-)
5. Do you open up any Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?
I open all my presents on Christmas Eve as is the tradition. By midnight, it's present time, wheeeee!
6. Have you ever been Christmas caroling?
Nope, I never even saw anyone doing it here - only in American movies *g*
7. What was your most memorable Christmas gift(s) that you received?
Dude, I've received so many great gifts in my life... but I'd have to say my first "big girl" bike, I think. It was so big - a tad too big for me actually, though I could use it quite quickly anyway - and so shiny and I couldn't believe I'd gotten it. It was a gift from my grand-parents - maternal side.
8. What's your favorite Christmas movie?
I don't even know. I have a thing - huge thing - for Christmas movies, even the cheesiest ones do it for me but I'm not sure I have a favourite one. Though I have to say when I think Christmas movie, the first that always springs to mind is The Cider House Rules, which isn't supposed to be a Christmas movie, I know, but I always associate it with Christmas, so... or let's say Love Actually *g*
9. Have you ever built a real snowman?
Yes. It's a lot of fun. My favourite part is when I have to give them a name...
10. Have you ever peeked into a present and found out what it was before Christmas?
Yeah okay I have. Completely by accident! I mean, when we were kids, my cousins, sister and I were always trying to find the Secret Hidden Place where all the pressies were, to no avail. It has to be the best kept secret in this family, seriously lol To this day, we still don't know where they hid them. It has become a challenge of some sorts, even. We came up with the most improbable places through the years but it seems we never found it. Though now that we won't go to my grand-parents' house anymore - not before a long time and not for the same reason anyway - it almost turned into something sacred, if it makes sense.
So anyway, that's not my answer. My answer is yes I have, by accident. I was looking for a blanket and I stumbled upon a present my mother had put there.
11. What is on the top of your Christmas tree?
I have no idea how to say it in English *blink* But okay if you go to my last post and check the first pic, you'll see what is on top.
12. Do you own a Santa hat?
Ah, le Père Noël hat? We kinda do. Except it's not a real one, we wear it when we work at the Big Top. I happen to have the best one because it's prettier than the rest, though it's also a tad more dangerous because the pom-pom hangs a bit lower than the others' and each time I move my head it, like, swings and I'm always afraid I'll knock myself out with it. Or something. And okay come to think of it? I guess it's more like an elf's hat? But it's cute, in any case lol
13. When was the last time you had your picture taken with Santa Claus?
I have a pic of myself with le Père Noël - well, my dad in disguise - but I'm crying because I'm apparently afraid so I don't suppose it's that nice a pic lol As for a picture taken with Santa at the mall? I don't remember ever doing one. I'll have to ask mom.
14. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
Yes, go me!
15. Do you put candy canes on your Christmas tree?
Nope. Except yeah kinda. I have little wrapped umbrellas, well those are actual chocolate :-) You're seeing them on the first pic I mentioned earlier, but you can't seem well enough because a) they're really small and b) my digital camera isn't that good, maybe.
16. Who is hardest person to buy for?
My dad. He never has any ideas and considering he doesn't have any real hobbies or anything, it's hell finding anything that will please him. Also, when he'll find an idea it'll be something like "I'd like a new car" which er, yeah so not in our budget, but thanks for trying, papa!
17. Who is the easiest person to buy for?
My mom. At least, one half of the parental unit is cooperative.
18. How old were you when you realized Santa was imaginary?
Seriously I don't remember. I know people always have stories about how they were traumatised by the discovery and all but I suppose I wasn't because I don't even remember how it happened - or when, obviously.
19. What does your morning of Christmas routine consist of?
Sleeping in first, then watch my brand new DVD, tucked up in bed, all warm and comfy and all. Then we usually have a "petit déjeuner dînatoire", ie a brunch... but it's always lazy time, that's for sure *g*
20. Egg nog?
Nice urban legend I hear about all the time. I'll have to try it one of these days - except maybe not because isn't it with rhum or something?
21. What do you want for Christmas this year?
There's a lot of things I'd like for Christmas this year - material or not - but I'll go with the material one because I'd like to keep this meme light and all. So I'm really hoping that I'll get Lost S1 on DVD. I think everyone in the family understood how much I was coveting it - sometimes you need to be subtle and sometimes, well you prefer not to be - so maybe? *fingers crossed*
So yesterday I worked all night. Made good money too. And no, I'm not trying to do some live research for my "Night" series, thanks ;-) I was Coat Hanger girl. Fascinating work as you can imagine. Date: 2005-12-18 01:40 pm (UTC)I'm serious, you will be miserable unless you nip this in the bud, now. Just go there and tell them you're hacking up green crap and have missed work... how will you survive... oh the children.... and they'll finally give you a Z-pack. Zithromyacin, that is.

Date: 2005-12-18 05:10 pm (UTC)Hmm, let's see what the handbook tells us: "A drink consisting of milk or cream, sugar, and eggs beaten together and often mixed with an alcoholic liquor such as rum or brandy."
The alcohol part seems essential. Is brandy better than rum for you?
I'd give it a try... only here no one has ever heard of it, and my curiosity doesn't go as far as hunting recipes and risking
my healthspoiling some very good eggs.no subject
