Oct. 17th, 2011 11:13 pmI think our connexion is trying to drive us crazy. It's been unstable since Friday night; we keep losing it then welcoming it back for a couple of hours before it goes AWOL again. I'm writing this but I have no idea whether I'll be able to post it. Wish me luck!
Thanks to our super fast connexion at work, I was able to download all the episodes we needed to catch up on. I was especially impatient to get my hands on The Fades, which we started watching last week. We're completely hooked, it's so compelling! And omg, the last five minutes of 1x04 were really intense! As well as gorgeous ♥ Brit shows, you never disappoint! I cannot wait to see what the writers have in store for us, I'm so curious as to where this is all going.
Unrelated, today
greedy_dancer tweeted about how long she's been in fandom and after thinking about it, I realised it's been more than ten years for me. Technically I've been a fan (of tv shows) all my life but I consider I got into fandom when I discovered fanfic and started being active on-line, which brings me to 1999 - around four years before I created my LJ (remember, when we had to get an invite first?).
The very first fandom I ever discovered (meaning before I even knew what "fandom" was) was Poltergeist: the Legacy. I actually still remember the wonder I felt when I clicked on the link called "Fanfic" and saw all those stories that seemed to have been written about the show. Talk about a discovery! I think Nick Boyle was the first Abused Male (the term was coined by
turps33 and me to describe those characters in fandom that seem to always be used and abused one way or the other) I ever read about. Guess I never looked back? Sure, I abandoned old fandoms, found new ones, but I've never stopped reading fanfic. And that first moment when I discovered what fanfic was... sweet, sweet memories ;-)
PS: I meant to rec this earlier but my connexion didn't allow me. Some time ago I asked
greedy_dancer if she accepted to record an XMFC fic for me. She accepted and she posted the result last week. GD is an awesome podficcer and her reading of Melted Ice Cream and Macaroni Art was as lovely as I thought it would be, sweet and fun, just like the actual story. If you're a fan of the Daycare 'verse, then you should definitely give GD's podfic a go. Hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did. And if that's the case, I hope you'll let her know :-) I know for a fact that recording a fic is hard work, podficcers totally deserve all the praise they can get :-)
