castalie: (Stock - Lazy Weekend)
Lazy saturday morning before heading to my MIL's and, this morning, cozy and lazy time rhymes with LJ time :)

Speaking of lazy and cozy, I had the afternoon off yesterday (I worked a Saturday and since overtime pay doesn't exist where I work, my boss allows us to compensate by having time off) and it was pure bliss. I've had a pretty busy week, both at work and outside of work, and although it wasn't stressful as such, it was still a bit intense so being home on a grey afternoon and having nothing to do was just what I needed. I buried myself in multiple blankets (I was stupidly cold) and read for some time before watching some YT and tv shows.

The third volume of Elena Ferrante's L'amie prodigieuse series has been released in the (French) edition I follow and purchasing it was, like, the highlight of my week lol I don't know whether you're familiar with that series? It's not French, btw, it's been translated from Italian (L'amica geniale is the original title, I think it's called My Brilliant Friend in English). I am a huge fan. I was given the first volume last year in my Italian class for our Secret Santa, started reading it not really knowing what to expect and devoured it. I've been impatiently waiting for each new release ever since. I've lent the first two books to three of my colleagues, which they all enjoyed and we kinda have our fan club at work now :)

Even though I was obviously not born in Naples at the end of the forties, whenever I read the book, I feel like I'm back in Italy with my family. I mean, I don't necessarily relate to the characters or think "oh, that asshole reminds me so much of my uncle Salvatore haha" but the atmosphere reminds me of spending my vacation at my grandparents' amidst the heat and the noise and agitation of what an Italian family can be like (note how I'm trying not to generalise but yeah). It's just very well written and the characters are so incredibly alive. Some of them will break your heart, some others make you want to punch them in the face (sometimes at the same time). Case in point, I have issues with Elena, the narrator of the story: I admire her determination to study and get out of the misery she grew up in but I dislike so many traits of her personality (so many). Since she's the one narrating the story, it makes for an interesting read sometimes ;) It never derails me from the story though, so it's very well done.

Anyway, I was very excited to start reading that new book, is what I'm trying to say :)

I also watched this week's episode of The Resident and, ok, let's start with two facts: fact #1, I don't think it's a good show, fact #2 I hardly think it'll get past that first season (although, stranger things have happened, I know, so don't quote me on that). Having said that, and maybe you saw it coming, I have to face and accept fact #3, ie that I'll probably keep watching. I hereby declare The Resident my brand new guilty pleasure (points to entry subject).

Let's talk about a show that is definitely not a guilty pleasure, now, as in Lucifer. Cookie and I watched episode 13 last night and omg. That episode... that episode was everything, alright? *__* I think it's also a perfect remedy for bleakness. Should I feel a bit under the weather in the future, I will watch "Til Death Do Us Part" to pick me up. Although, what I love with Lucifer is how they mix pure comedy with deeper, even darker themes... because Spoilers alert ) Oh, Lucifer, how I love you ♥

I also watched the first episode of one of Netflix latest original series, namely Altered Carbon. Colour me intrigued, I'll definitely tune in for the rest! Just a warning, though, if you want to start that show, make sure you're not tired. You need to be fully aware to follow everything that is going on lol

And ok, I'll stop here, I think, that's quite enough rambling for one morning :) Have a nice weekend, flist!
