Hello from my bed *waves* It's past 1.30AM here but Cookie and I are wide awake and busy reading all the meta (haha, omg! I actually wrote "meat" #Perfect) we can find over at Tumblr and Reddit about "The Wrath of the Lamb", ie the amazing Hannibal finale. We've watched the whole episode only once so far but have possibly been watching some specific scenes several times. Possibly :p

After watching the finale - this is a general thought over the whole season, over the whole show, really, not an actual spoiler for that specific episode - I kept thinking about that line in the pilot when Will tells Hannibal that he doesn't find him that interesting. Such an unassuming little line, you know? Except, after everything, it kinda breaks your heart - in the most delicious, twisted way, mind. Oh, Will. And then there's Hannibal's amused, fond and confident answer to him, of course, "You will". Thinking back to that little exchange after watching that last episode... damn, what a journey it has been! And what a daring, stunning show. Well done, Mr Fuller, well done *bows*

How I love when a show/season finale gives you all the feelings! Well, they're supposed to but it's just fantastic when they actually deliver. Hopefully, I'm not spoiling anything by telling you that an Hannibal episode gave me all the feelings? It's actually par for the course, right? Right ;)

Anyway.

Oh, before leaving, has anyone watched Mr Robot? A colleague of mine uploaded the episodes for us at work and I'm curious about it.
castalie: (XMFC - First Date)
Oh, Monday, I haven't found you dull and annoying in quite some time now! All thanks to The Musketeers and the fact that Mondays have been associated with a new episode of my new favourite show for the past couple of weeks. It has turned this dreaded day into something exciting :) (Let's ignore the fact next week is the last episode of series 1, shall we? I'd rather not think about it till the very last minute and even then I'll just focus on the fact that we will get a second series.)

I was quite looking forward to this new episode and I was not disappointed! It has everything I love in that show; action, a bit of drama, banter and characters being awesome, kick-ass and cute - men and women alike.

Just a couple of thoughts )

Remember when I was waxing poetry about the lads being fond of each other and this being definitely one of my favourite part of the show? The scene that I've decided to entitle "Aramis vs Nature" was a prime example. Athos and d'Artagnan were so clearly amused at Aramis' antics. And I just loved Athos' tone when he called Aramis' name. If this were a fic, there would have been a not so subtle threat hidden behind the admonition "if you don't stop your shenanigans right this instant, you're going over my knees! Or Porthos'. Or both!" ♥

On the subject of Athos and Aramis, I really enjoyed their interaction in that episode. Not to say we never had such scenes in previous episodes but we had many of them this time around and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of them!

Changing the subject now, though still about tv. Isn't that new season of Hannibal even slower than the first... but much more difficult to watch at times? I've had to hide behind my hands more often than I used to! And damn that ending, argh!

Lastly! Has everyone (ok, everyone interested) seen the XMDOFP trailer? How epic did it look? *__* My expectations for that film, they are high. I guess I should be a bit worried it'll let me down but I'm not. I cannot wait.

I'm having a chilled saturday and enjoying every minute of it! I studied a little this morning, watched some tv and went to the cinema in the afternoon. Hope you're having a good one as well :)

On my way back home I was thinking of the two episodes of Hannibal that are on our schedule for tonight and I realised this week had been a very good week tv wise. Always a reason to celebrate ;)

Let's begin with Orphan Black, which was the lovely surprise of last weekend. I've caught up with all the episodes and am now more than ready to find out what series 2 has in store for us. Confession time, I caved in and watched the sneak peeks BBC America shared.

Then there was The Musketeers, which I kept going back to the past few days. Don't know exactly why... scratch that, I do know, it was after watching "The Good Soldier"; that whole story about Marsac and Aramis... it just kinda filled me with glee. So I'm officially on board ;) Incidentally, I've had the opening theme playing in a loop in my head all day yesterday. And I didn't even mind. Too much.

After that we had Person of Interest. How much did I enjoy that episode, let me count the ways! I might have been kicking my feet in sheer delight as I was watching. As a matter of fact, I was hooked as early as the opening credits! How many shows actually use their opening credits as part of the narrative? Seriously, that's such a clever (and original) move ♥ I'm so smitten with that show. Nothing new at this point but some things bear repeating. One comment or two )

Moving onto Arrow now, which... argh, they sure know how to drag things out, don't they? I was expecting something else for that episode, I'll admit, but I can't even hold a grudge because I did like what they gave us. Sometimes, I feel like Arrow can do no wrong, anyway lol

Lastly, as mentioned previously, I watched the latest episode of Community "App Development and Condiments" and I found it brilliant! So funny and clever, Community at its best, I'd say. Also, if you've seen it, you can find Greendale's social network online, how awesome (and fun) is that? Transmedia ftw!

And now is later and we're watching Hannibal. Ok, that first scene was something, wasn't it? This season is going to be epic!

There are some season finales that make a lasting impression and the Hannibal one definitely is one of them. It killed me, you guys! Some general though obviously spoilery comments behind the cut )

In conclusion, I cannot wait for season 2 and it's incredibly unfair to have to wait a whole year for it. Might as well be a lifetime away! Which is why I couldn't resist and had to read this article, which had some lovely tidbits about season 2. I so cannot wait, you guys. Is it "no-earlier-than-mid-season" yet? No? Damn.

Changing the subject. I've finally watched the three episodes of Graceland that were sitting on my HD and that show was another pleasant surprise; great ensemble cast, lovely character dynamics and a plot that is pretty entertaining. I'm (of course, Jeff Eastin knows how to write good bromance) into Briggs and Mike, their relationship is very interesting, but I love pretty much everyone in that show, from Tuturro (he has the cutest laugh!) to Charlie, passing by Paige and Jakes. I'll tune in every week, I think :)

I had every intention not to miss my LJ anniversary this year but, as per usual, I did. It's a pity because I reached a milestone; I've been on board LJ for ten years. Ten years, you guys o_O I had just turned twenty-four when I created my journal #WantsToCooAtYoungerSelf This also means that I've known some of you for ten years as some of you have been on my flist (and vice versa) since the beginning. A Happy (super belated) Anniversary to me and hail to AFK relationships that, in fact, do last :)

I wish LJ hadn't changed so much, though. I can't help it, I miss the Good Ole Days when people posted primarily here. I enjoy twitter and tumblr but to me they're just not the right platforms to have conversations and exchanges with people. But, hey, things change, it's part of the game.

Changing the subject - though in my head, this is not so much "changing the subject" as "keeping with the theme" because I feel like I'm always thinking about Hannibal one way or the other, these days - can you believe we're one episode shy of the season finale? It's so odd because I still remember how "meh" I was about the pilot when I first saw it and now I'm so invested in the show. Oh, Hannibal, I miss you already and you're not even gone yet! #Cling I'm extremely impatient to see that finale and yet I also dread it so much. It's one of those cases when you know, without a doubt, that it's going to hurt and yet you cannot wait for the pain. Us fans are funny creatures ;)

Unrelated again but I was just WhatsApp'ing to Tai about it so this reminded me of it; something that makes me happy these days? Watching [livejournal.com profile] yami_tai fall for The Returned and [livejournal.com profile] enigel for POI. Seeing people (much more friends) fall for a show you're a fan yourself is one of those little pleasures in life that I tremendously enjoy ;)

Speaking of POI, so season 3 will premiere on September, 24th? I love getting dates, it makes things more concrete.

Had myself a very Hugh Dancy Night tonight last night. It started with the latest episode of Hannibal, which I hadn't seen yet; that episode gave me a lot of food for thought but, between you and me, there's one thing in particular that made me squee like crazy when it happened and it was Hannibal's big hands on Will's face. Hee, touching! ♥ Spoilery bit behind ) Yes, sometimes you want to meta the hell out of an episode and sometimes... you just want to squee over big hands on some woobie's face ;)

Then I looked for interviews and was reminded that the guy is, in fact, English and not American - a detail I tend to forget easily. Thing is, I haven't seen Dancy in that many films and apart from King Arthur I don't think I've ever heard him speak with his English accent. Followed some YT videos about the parts he played in English productions (in costumes, too) and there he was, all prim and proper. And always so cute! That's when I found out he'd played in The Big C - a show I only know because [livejournal.com profile] turps33 mentions it now and then - so I went to download all the episodes he played in. Though I went to Wikipedia beforehand and checked about his fate. Once I knew what happened to him or what did not happen to him (if this is considered a spoiler, then I don't know what to do, really), I was ready to go. I'm glad I watched because Lee was absolutely delightful!

Oh, and unrelated though not really, I'm re-reading Red Dragon. As I was saying to someone, the last time I read it I was a teenager and therefore read it in French (I say therefore because I only started reading books in English when I was around seventeen and even then, it wasn't a regular occurrence) so it's like I'm reading the novel for the first time.

Again, no spoilers for either the show or the novel but I hadn't realised how much of the book was in the series! I mean, I'm not talking about the plot but there are so many lines and dialogues taken directly from the book! It is awesome.

I started this entry on Friday, I'm thinking I should finish it and post it now, or else I never will.

I couldn't go to sleep last night on Thursday night so I was awake around 2.00AM when the news about Hannibal's renewal spread all over teh internets. The excitement that followed didn't help me fall asleep any quicker but at least it made me happier ♥ ♥

The excitement didn't die down in the morning when I caught a bit of Bryan Fuller's live tweeting the episode. I usually skim through those tweets because I don't want to be spoiled but my eyes were caught by his comment about how for the first time since they started shooting the show, Hugh Dancy had to leave the set to collect himself during one of the Death Tableau. It really piqued my curiosity, I just couldn't wait to watch the episode! Though, hey, Bryan Fuller, no breaking Hugh Dancy, you hear? #PoorBaby

The episode did not disappoint. I know I sound like a broken record but damn if that show isn't getting better with each new episode! "Buffet Froid" was brilliant; heartbreaking and chilling and just brilliant all around ♥

There's a lot I could say about it (so many things happened omg!) but could we take a second to talk about the Ladder Scene? You know, the scene that some people who aren't even watching the show have heard of, the scene that is making some of them think that maybe they're missing out. That one ;)

I have to wonder whether Bryan Fuller intended the scene to turn sexual when it was written ("you'll see, all the slashers in the land are going to lap it up!") or if it's just Hugh Dancy, helped with Mikkelsen, that made it look that way ("We can't help it, when we're in a scene together it always looks like we're about to fuck! Now Hugh can't even lean against a ladder without it looking super sexual!"). Or, you know, if it's just us slashers Seeing Things All the Time ("Look, Will and Hannibal are both breathing in the same room, they're so in love!").

Entering spoiler territory for a second. And talking about d/s because, seriously! )

There, I managed to write a tiny bit of meta about the scene, after all :p And my conclusion would be: if people ever doubted that Will was a submissive, I feel like their doubts have now been put to rest. Whatever the interpretation, that Ladder Scene, it was a gorgeous display of submission right there, wasn't it? ;) I wonder how many fic it will give birth to!

Unrelated now, I was having a DW Night last night (finally watched the last three episodes of s7 then found out they were broadcasting the second half of it on tv, so tuned in) when I saw the news about Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who after the Chrismas special. I knew it was bound to happen but I'm not ready to let Eleven go yet, he's my favourite Doctor! Being a fan isn't easy, you guys!
castalie: (Stock - Tv Whore)
I started typing up this entry during lunch break and at the time this is what I had at the top "[Hopefully insert review of Hannibal 1x09 here"]" because I hadn't been able to download the file before leaving for work and I was crossing all fingers that the file would be up for grab when I'd get home. Spoilers: it was. The episode was glorious, pure love. So I'm happy to insert my review of Hannibal 1x09 here )

I know we just had episode 1x09 but I so cannot wait for x10 and the rest, it's going to be epic! Incidentally, I like the idea of this episode as a trou normand, you know, used to re-awaken your appetite when you're having a long and heavy meal so that you can truly appreciate the last part of it instead of being too stuffed to savour anything ;)

Funny thing, I feel like I've been going through a show-watching revival of some sorts the past couple of months. For a while I basically didn't watch anything anymore, or very sporadically, but I'm back to really enjoying the sensation of sitting down to watch a tv show on a weekly basis (or, you know, daily, depending on the show). Well, no, it's a kind of pleasure I never forgot but it is still nice to be actively feeling it again.

Anyway, all that to say that I'm still watching POI every now and then as well as tuning in to Hannibal every week and, as of a couple of days ago, catching up on Doctor Who.

I've also started watching a new show, which is neither American or British! Surprising as it is, it's actually French. I say "surprising" because I watch(ed) one French show (now off the air, sadly), period. I started watching it in a round-about way, though. Les Revenants, based on a French film, is a show that has been praised a lot when it aired the past year. Summary here )

I couldn't watch it live because I don't have the network that aired it and I'm so not used to downloading French shows that it never really crossed my mind to do it (I never said I wasn't stupid every now and then). Then last week or so I heard of an US show that should premiere in the Fall, namely Resurrection.

Reading the summary of Resurrection gave me a strange feeling of déjà-vu, it's basically the same premise as Les Revenants and (at least) one of the characters looks very similar to a character in Les Revenants. Apparently it's based on novel written by Jason Mott (yet to be published) but I rest my case, it's still the same premise. In any case, it gave me the final push to download Les Revenants, see what it's like (and, hey, that way I'll be able to compare it with Resurrection whenever it airs).

Well, it is damn good! Haunting, disturbing, intriguing and touching. It's also very French in that nothing really happens? There's no big explosions or big fights, it's very subtle, intimist, very human, very "normal" (as normal as a show where dead people come back to life can be, that is lol). It doesn't make it any less creepy (quite the contrary, in fact, subtlety is always efficient) and it also makes the violence, when it happens, all the more shocking.

This could be of interest to those of you living in the UK as Channel 4 seems to have landed the rights to the show and plans on screening it sometime in the upcoming months. And it'll be subtitled instead of dubbed - hopefully you don't hate the sound of my language too much and you'll want to give it a try :)

I've also been interested in trying Hatufim, the show that Homeland is based on. Ironically enough, I found out French!tv was airing it, except I missed most of the season so I guess I'll have to resort to downloading the episodes. I'd have watched them live if I'd known, though, promise!
castalie: (Hannibal - Will)
Hello flist, glad to have you back! Poor LJ wasn't having a good day yesterday, was it?

Good thing I hadn't decided to dedicate my day off to cruising LJ or else I'd have been very sad, indeed. Instead, once I got back from my errands and shopping, I watched some POI but! Because I thought I'd add some spice to my watching the show, I went and looked for the Italian version and lo, I found one! All episodes streaming in Italian, hee be still my heart! It gave me a little thrill, I admit ;) As it happens I also have all the episodes of season 1 in French thanks to my mother-in-law who, after we pimped the show to her, fell for it and decided to download them all on-line. Yes, my MIL is cool like that ;)

I also found an early download of Hannibal - or I think it was an early one as the show normally airs on Thursday, doesn't it? - which I watched with Cookie and ohh, it was such a fantastic episode ♥

Behind the cut here be inappropriate squeeing over people cracking due to heavy empathing and serial killer being wonderfully terrifying and kick-ass. Also, totally in love with their broken not-really-patient )

The show is getting more exciting with each new episode, imho. I will cry bitter tears of bitterness if they don't renew it. Though [livejournal.com profile] katikat said that if that happens, Amazon and at least one cable network would be interested in picking it up. Hurray, I say!

Another hurray for the promo of next week's episode, "Trou Normand", which looks so good ♥ Btw, as a French viewer of the show? Those titles will never ever fail to amuse me.
castalie: (PoI - Always Watching You)
After the in-laws had left yesterday, it was time for us to catch up on some tv, namely Person of Interest and Hannibal. Funny thing is, it'd seem even Jack-the-cat has fallen for POI as he basically watched the whole episode with us. No really, he planted himself in front of the screen and just.. kept watching it )

In our family, everyone is a fan of POI ;)

And for good reasons too, as the show is seriously awesome. The season finale was no exception. Spoilers - oh and a bit of meta, apparently? - for 2x22 )

In conclusion (again): ♥

Oh, another reason (dude, there are so many, let me count the ways!) why I enjoy this show is the way they play with the machine different interfaces. I love that we get shots like this one, for instance )

Clever use of a character's POV, especially considering which character we're speaking of.

Speaking of clever. Let's talk about Hannibal now, shall we? I feel like I'll keep my fingers crossed till the very last second before we finally find out about its fate. I'm so hoping it won't be cancelled! Especially as episode 1x06 threw me for a loop with those spoilery comments )

They can't cancel the show, can they? It'd suck so much. And if they do, they have to at least air the 13 episodes they shot and not leave us like that... I need to know something ) Or if they do cancel/stop airing the episodes, will we get the DVDs, at least? Yeah, definitely keeping my fingers crossed from now on!
castalie: (PoI - Always Watching You)
You guys, I'm all caught up on Person of Interest \o/ I don't have any new episodes waiting for me now, though, which makes me very sad /o\ Well, no, obviously I still have the last remaining episodes of the season to watch as they air (next one is next Thursday, right?) but I got used to my mini marathon every night for the past week *cling* But as Cookie said wisely "it's okay, we'll just start all over again!" Guess she's right, there's always that option ;)

My love for Reese and Finch knows no bounds. I found myself squeeing out loud and/or clapping my hands so many times with those two! Also, what is it with Reese and billionaires and/or geniuses and/or mob bosses? They all want a piece of him, don't they? I'd say they certainly keep Finch on his toes if he wants to keep his man but Reese is so devoted to him there's no-one else for him but Finch, so it's all good ;) Still, the ending of "One Percent" when Finch steps on the expensive watch that Pierce gave Reese? Forget about his explanation, he did it in a fit of jealousy and a show of dominance in a "I'm the only billionaire allowed to give you expensive gifts" way, y/y? I just loved that scene ♥ The only thing that would have made it better would have been for Finch to add "I'll buy you a new one" after Reese pouted over the broken item.

These two ♥

I'll be honest, I just want to follow Cookie's advice and start watching the show all over again but I'm thinking it'd also be a good idea to catch up with those other shows I'm behind like Vikings, Arrow and Spartacus. I did take the time to watch the first two episodes of Hannibal but I'm afraid I was underwhelmed... there was something off for me and I couldn't really get into it. Also, I'm not really into this version of Hannibal (the character). Don't know if it's something I mention now and then it but voices and speech patterns are very important for me (one of the many reasons I love John, btw, his voice!) and Mads Mikkelsen's voice/way of speaking doesn't really work for me. I'll watch the episodes (plus the new one) again, see if I like it better this time but I'm on the fence atm, which is disappointing as I'd been waiting for the show to premiere for months! It happens, I guess...

Anyway, I'm working this morning (invigilating an exam, as per usual these days) but I think I'll dedicate my afternoon to watching tv.
