castalie: (Hannibal - Will)

Hello flist, glad to have you back! Poor LJ wasn't having a good day yesterday, was it?

Good thing I hadn't decided to dedicate my day off to cruising LJ or else I'd have been very sad, indeed. Instead, once I got back from my errands and shopping, I watched some POI but! Because I thought I'd add some spice to my watching the show, I went and looked for the Italian version and lo, I found one! All episodes streaming in Italian, hee be still my heart! It gave me a little thrill, I admit ;) As it happens I also have all the episodes of season 1 in French thanks to my mother-in-law who, after we pimped the show to her, fell for it and decided to download them all on-line. Yes, my MIL is cool like that ;)

I also found an early download of Hannibal - or I think it was an early one as the show normally airs on Thursday, doesn't it? - which I watched with Cookie and ohh, it was such a fantastic episode ♥

Where to begin? Maybe with the most beautiful moment Hannibal (and Hannibal) has graced us with, namely that look of utter relief and joy on Hannibal's face when he saw Will enter his office and realised that he was, in fact, alive. That look, you guys *__* He was so reserved and contained yet so incredibly touched and relieved that Will hadn't been killed. It was like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

That moment was perfection. Btw, I want to apologise to Mads Mikkelsen for saying I wasn't really into his version of Hannibal the first time I watched the premiere. I've said I was slowly warming up to him but I've been enjoying his portrayal of the character immensely after a couple of episodes. He is fantastic.

And the Hannibal-Will dynamics is so fascinating! Their chemistry is wonderful and I just love that we're turned into voyeurs, privy to Hannibal's double life and knowing (that is, more or less, since we don't truly know what drives him) that he is playing with Will. It's painful to see. And delicious, mind you ;)

Because, obviously, as twisted as their relationship is, the mad love this mad man has for his broken boy is a sight to behold ♥ And Will's trust is so beautifully tragic, too. He's so lonely and scared of what is happening to him, he's so lost and he had no idea that his anchor is actually one of the monsters that are haunting him! Poor Will!

Lucky us, though for he does suffer so prettily! Incidentally, the writers seem to have upped the ante already, he seems to be declining so fast right now. I love that his reflex is to go and see Hannibal whenever he needs help and/or advice. Alana is certain that Jack is grooming Will into finding the Chesapeake Ripper (allow me to take a moment to confess something here: I keep calling him the Cheesecake Ripper. I do know it doesn't have the same ring to it, I can't help it!) I'd be curious to see her reaction if she knew that Hannibal is grooming Will for his own purpose too.

I guess I can't talk about their relationship without mentioning those lovely scenes with Gillian Anderson! "Someone new in your life?" "I met a man". INDEED! I trufax squeed out loud when he said this. That exchange was just too good to be true ♥

Some other random observations:

I was talking about Alana earlier, the second she and Will kissed I thought oh boy, if Hannibal finds out, Alana is toast. Maybe literally, knowing him ;) I was highly amused by a review I read where they mentioned bromantic love, which is par for the course nowadays, but didn't stop here; they went a step further when they added that "despite the subplot between Will and Alana, the most romantic scene in “Fromage” was the look Hannibal gives Will when he finds out he’s alive." Yes, it truly was a romantic scene, wasn't it? ;)

The serial killer off was very exciting! And it felt so strange to see Hannibal fight like that. The show hasn't prepared us for any real physical fights, when you think of it, much less where it concerns our dear Dr Lecter. We only see the aftermath of his murders, we never really see him act. Exception made with Miriam, mind. But, yeah, kung-fu Hannibal was a lot of fun.

Hey, don't you just love Hannibal's way of reassuring people that he hasn't poisoned them? "I wouldn't do that to the food". Hannibal would NEVER HURT OR DISRESPECT THE FOOD, OK?

The show is getting more exciting with each new episode, imho. I will cry bitter tears of bitterness if they don't renew it. Though [livejournal.com profile] katikat said that if that happens, Amazon and at least one cable network would be interested in picking it up. Hurray, I say!

Another hurray for the promo of next week's episode, "Trou Normand", which looks so good ♥ Btw, as a French viewer of the show? Those titles will never ever fail to amuse me.
