After the in-laws had left yesterday, it was time for us to catch up on some tv, namely Person of Interest and Hannibal. Funny thing is, it'd seem even Jack-the-cat has fallen for POI as he basically watched the whole episode with us. Not even kidding:

In our family, everyone is a fan of POI ;)
And for good reasons too, as the show is seriously awesome. The season finale was no exception. The pace was fantastic, there was no dull moments and I loved that so many things happened at once, that so many flashbacks were crammed in those 42 minutes, there was no doubt you were heading to a climax and you just couldn't wait for it!
I loved that we finally found out what happened to Nathan and how Finch got hurt! Finally! They'd been teasing us from the get go and it was rewarding to finally get answers. It was more spectacular than I thought - I'd imagined a car accident trying to escape from Gvt agents or a one-to-one attack by said agents, I hadn't seen that kind of staged attack coming. I shouldn't have been surprised, though, those guys usually don't do things by half.
Something I've enjoyed with the Nathan-Harold storyline is the issue of morality that it focused on. I think it was a bit daring to have one of our main characters, one of our main heroes, not be the one who originally wanted to help the helpless. Or, to be more accurate, who was the one who chose to sacrifice them to protect the multitude, who decided letting individuals die was worth it if it meant that the bigger number was protected. Having him fight Nathan over it and take actions to let the Irrelevant die and be forgotten was a streak of genius. It makes Harold's journey so much more interesting. John keeps thanking him for giving him a second chance but I guess Harold has reasons to be grateful to Reese in return; thanks to John he also has a chance at it.
About John and Finch. I truly enjoyed that a) John always trusted Harold or, at least, gave him the benefit of the doubt and wished for him to explain himself before jumping to conclusions and that b) John didn't blame Harold for anything that happened and that he owned up to his own mistakes and accepted his own responsibility, I loved the "my life changed when I kept my mouth shut in an airport terminal seven years ago" line.
Also loved that he suggested that Harold shouldn't be paying him so generously now that the Numbers don't seem to be coming up any longer as opposed to suggesting that now the Numbers don't seem to be coming up any longer, he could just, you know, look elsewhere for employment. It just didn't even cross his mind, did it? As if he would ever leave Harold now that he found him ♥
Incidentally, I wonder if Harold realises that John as Contingency isn't the best idea per se - unless Harold was truly dead, that is. Not because he isn't smart enough or competent enough - John is obviously very smart and extremely competent - but because, just like The Machine, there is no way John would ever put Harold second. Harold will always comes first. Sure, we saw him (and Shaw) both work on Stopping an Apocalypse and on saving the Numbers but this was more comedy than anything. Harold used to put people before individuals but John seems to be taking things a bit further, even, when he puts one individual before everyone else. If that's not true love, I don't know what is ;)
Speaking of Shaw, I loved that she was back. I love Reese and her on their own but put together, sparks fly. By which I mean, things explode and bad people are shot. Seeing her and Reese work together delights me to no end, it makes me want to clap my hands in glee. They make such a perfect team. They're basically the same and I love that they're on equal footing (which, how much do I love that Shaw is one of the rare characters that can not only keep up with Reese but get the better of him too? ♥); it's not just that they have a similar background and issues (though that's pretty cool too) but it's that they both love to do damage, they're both scarily competent and talented at it (and just plain scary sometimes), they both enjoy their guns and they have the same dry humour. Though I'd say Reese is the more sensitive of the pair, maybe ;)
Also, kudos to Shaw for being the first to really describe The Machine as AI. Just loved John's face when she said it, like "Oh".
And on the subject of our favourite AI... I cannot wait for next season, see what she (I can't help it, I keep thinking of It as a She) will be up to now that she got herself free. To what length is she going to go to keep herself safe, how is she going to relate to both (either?) Finch and Reese now that Reese was Admin for a day. Is she going to use Root too? She wasn't just hallucinating, was she? The phone calls did seem to happen simultaneously, so.
And speaking of the Lady In Charge, who's this "Ma'am"? Hope she'll cause havoc for our boys and keep thing as interesting as the past two seasons have been. Incidentally, I quite enjoyed that the Top Man was, in fact, a Top Woman ;)
Women are all pretty awesome in that show, anyway. From Carter to Shaw passing by Zoe and even Root - in her psycho glory.
Also! How much did I love that they actually mentioned Bear? Yes, where was Bear? Oh, he was with Leon, it's all good then :) Nice to know Leon is still in the picture, btw!
In conclusion (again): ♥
Oh, another reason (dude, there are so many, let me count the ways!) why I enjoy this show is the way they play with the machine different interfaces. I love that we get shots like this one, for instance:

It's a lot of fun and diverges from your regular tv shots but it also adds something to the narrative. The best use of that kind of sequence was in last episode, though, when they actually modified the opening credits, that was just fantastic.
Clever use of a character's POV, especially considering which character we're speaking of.
Speaking of clever. Let's talk about Hannibal now, shall we? I feel like I'll keep my fingers crossed till the very last second before we finally find out about its fate. I'm so hoping it won't be cancelled! Especially as episode 1x06 threw me for a loop when the writers decided to give book! Will's fate to Miriam. It was really clever of them and it truly felt as if they were mocking us; those of us who know the novel/film thought we had it all figured out and knew where it was heading but they showed us we actually have no idea. So now we are all on same page, ie a blank one. Brilliant. And also frustrating if they decide to pull the show off the air because it means we will have no idea how Will was supposed to find out Hannibal's identity.
Also, seeing that Jack did, indeed, "lose a pony" once, you'd think he would be more careful with Will. I mean, I do see him as protective, in his own way, but he also keeps pushing and pushing and if that's his idea of handling Will with care, I'd hate to see him stop being gentle!
They can't cancel the show, can they? It'd suck so much. And if they do, they have to at least air the 13 episodes they shot and not leave us like that... I need to know what it is that Hannibal smellt on Will that time. I don't think they can give Will brain tumour because it'd be too similar to what happened to that character whose name I forgot already but there is something there and I'm really curious about it. Or if they do cancel/stop airing the episodes, will we get the DVDs, at least? Yeah, definitely keeping my fingers crossed from now on!
