I'm full on fannish mode this week. I've finally finished Lucifer season 4 (good thing they announced that season 5 was a go, after that ending! It's a bit sad to think about how the show is coming to an end but at least the writers know beforehand that it's their last season, so I'm hoping as hell sure we'll get some kind of closure). Once it was finished I turned to Tales of the City. I think I'm in the middle of it and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. It felt really good going back to Barbary Lane. It also made me realise I'd never read the series in English, only in French, so I've ordered the first book so that I can remedy that :)
More importantly, I've fallen for a new show. That is, new for me as it's been going for several years now (I know, I know, talk about being late to the party). Even though it's a show I've never really heard about in my fannish circle, I can't even blame French tv for not airing it because the show has been airing for some years here (on a network that is pretty fond of that kind of genre, as a matter of fact, they're the purveyors of shows like Vera, Grantchester and so on). I distinctly remember catching episodes here and there and each time I thought the main character looked interesting but I never really investigated. Fast-forward a couple of weeks ago when I found myself watching a whole episode then another and next thing I knew, I was looking up for fic and interviews and whatnot. You know the drill.
I'm talking about a show called Endeavour. Which, btw, was confusing at first because the French title is Les enquêtes de Morse1 so that's what I was searching for, right? Except for how the result I got seemed to be accurate but not? I mean, I did find a British show about a bloke called Morse who was, indeed, a detective but er, talk about an age difference! Mind, Google didn't let me down and made realise that ohhh, Les enquêtes de Morse was, in fact, Endeavour and not Inspector Morse and those two blokes were the same! Just, one was old!Morse and the other baby!Morse. Ok, then!
I think they're airing series four at the moment, meaning that I had to get my hands on the show from the very beginning. Which I did. As in today and, as it happens, I've just watched the pilot film then the first episode of series 1. It's quite interesting seeing the relationships between the characters at their very beginning. I love it! And I can't believe it's taken me so long to watch (hear about?) that show because it's pushing so many buttons. I mean, the show has a very clever main character who's a bit tormented and ever so touching, it has interesting, strong and sweet at times relationships between men2, one of them including a father figure/mentor bond, it's set in Oxford in the sixties... what's not to love? (I'm such a die-hard fan of everything English pertaining to murder, inquiries and the likes... it's one of my - albeit many - kryptonites).
Incidentally, I keep imagining how well Geordie and Thursday would get on, commiserating about their respectivetrouble makers lads, both unable to hide how much they love them - same thing with Morse and Sidney. Just thinking about it makes my heart skip a beat ;) (No need to remind me that Grantchester and Endeavour are around ten years apart, the thought makes me warm and fuzzy anyway, alright?).
Anyway. As usual when I'm bursting with fannish feelings, I come to you, flist. Because I know you get it... even though you might not be into the show (or you might have never heard of it lol). Still, we fanpeople get each other, it's all that matters ;)
Right. 1.00AM just struck... time to get to bed! (And isn't that one of the biggest signs that you've fallen for a show? When you're starting to lose hours of sleep over it lol)?
1. Now that I think of it... I think the French title for Vera is Les enquêtes de Vera. Wow. That is what I call creative thinking at its best!
2. I do miss Trewlove, though. I need to find out when she makes her appearance.
