aka Pride in Paris - woohoo
OH boy, you wouldn't believe the day I had - it was such a blast!
Long story short : I met with
greedy_dancer at noonish to go to Pride with her - we marched and danced and sang for around three hours and a half, crossed Paris from Denfert-Rochereau to place de la Bastille, then when the March was over, we literally collapsed at a café and once we were able to walk again, we finally ended at Saint-Michel where we settled in a little parc and chatted some more until 8.20 pm when she had to leave - so all in all, a great day *g* Another success story ;-)
Long story longish :
It started out a bit weird, because I was sure I wouldn't be able to meet with her, and I was already picturing the scene in my head - me at home when the only thing I wanted was to be there. Thankfully she caught me on LJ before I left and we chatted on AIM to decide on how to proceed precisely - the rendez-vous went really smoothly may I add, no one missed anyone, which was of course our main cause of worry.
So, we met at noonish and went to Denfert-Rochereau where the March began. We found the vehicule (float?) we wanted, ie the one for the MAG, and we followed it for the three hours and a half that lasted the March. Man, it almost killed us! lol We can be proud of ourselves because we danced for the whole duration of the March - and were entertained at the same time by three guys following the same float as us who were such go-go dancers! They were really good and pretty funny, you should have seen them *g* But hey, you should have seen us, cause man, we rocked! lol Our backs and our feet didn't think they would ever recover though, but it's so worth it!
I mean, the atmosphere is just fucking brilliant - like I remembered it, though it felt like there were less people than usual. That being said, there're still thousands of people, so you wouldn't really see the difference *g* [ETA: The police reports talk about 500.000 people present. The Pride organisators talk about 700.000, so it has to be something in between *g*] There're people just everywhere, the ones from the March itself, dancing like crazy and the audience on each side of the road cheering and just you know, watching the show *g*
Because a show, it is! And a damn good one too - I think my favourites were the BDSM couples in full gear so to speak, and this guy in leather with one of those pants cut in the backside to show off your ass, know what I mean? Yes, sans undies *eg* There were beautiful drag queens everywhere, people wearing the flag all around, oh and some men in kilts and people wearing wedding dresses or tuxedoes, and of course the floats were impressive too - it's just wow... you need to go there at least once, you wouldn't regret it and you would have such a great time *g* Well, if you like dancing in public and aren't afraid of crowds and like very loud music, I mean *g*
When we finally reached place de la Bastille, we were pretty dead on our feet! Or more precisely, our feet were dead lol We found the courage to leave the place and walk some more - and we ended up in this little café with flags hanging all around - really neat if you ask me. We had a drink and started talking about QAF, slash, FPS and RPS, fandoms, LJ - perfect and entertaining conversations for fangirls, you know? *g* Then we left and went to Saint-Michel, where we did a little detour to Album --I can't go to Saint-Michel without going to Album-- where I incidentally bought Kizuna vol. 2. Then we settled in a parc, Cluny, and chatted until 8.20 pm - QAF, slash, FPS and RPS, fandoms, LJ- well you get the picture *g* We apparently scared the man sitting behind me on the bench - some people are just so innocent, they're scared by gay porn talks, who would have thought? lol Sorry, man - just didn't really realise we weren't alone *cough*
Finally,
greedy_dancer had to leave - so we said our goodbyes - et voilà, I was back home at 9.00 pm, very happy and more than satisfied from my day *g*
Thanks girl, for a great day *g*
And now, I'm watching this new show - well new here, not new new - Jake 2.0 and I'm starting to wonder whether I didn't just find yet another show I'm going to watch on a regular basis *g* Jake seems the kind of geek I adore - and he has all those not-so-sekrit super powers, so...

Date: 2004-06-26 03:10 pm (UTC)I just hope Pride catches on, or more accurately, difuses out... ..as in, disperses through the common population to the point where we don't need marches and days, where we can just go out in public with our same-sex partners and hold hands or put arms around shoulders or waists or even kiss... ..and get the same "aw, aren't they a beautiful couple in love?" that straight couples get now.
I honestly believe this can happen in our lifetimes, and I most definitely want to see it.

Date: 2004-06-26 03:19 pm (UTC)And I totally agree - we'll know we've been accepted for what we are, as in human beings like everyone else, the day when people won't need acceptance anymore. The day when we won't need to march to say, hey, we're here and no matter what you think, we're going to hide - until then, well...

And if the het is just from afar, it's okay. I sometimes read stories where officially Aragorn is still with Arwen and Faramir with Eowyn - but the focus is on them, of course *g* Anyway, I'll check about everything you mentioned lol
Argh, too bad I had to delete my Boromir/Faramir icon *sigh*
