Mirage of Blaze etc...
Jul. 20th, 2006 10:29 amI've been in an anime mood all yesterday and I've watched as many episodes of Mirage of Blaze as I could. And I say 'as many as I could' because you wouldn't believe the hassle I went through - and am still going through, though it's been fixed now - to get the series. I downloaded a first batch but turned out it was the English version and no, just no. Sorry I can, eventually, watch anime that has been dubbed but not in English, I can't stand the English dubbing of anime. So it didn't work out. Then I downloaded another batch and lo! It was in Japanese with English subtitles... except when I reached episode seven, I realised the rest of the series was the raw version! *dies* I did watch two of the OVAs though as they were - blissfully - subbed too.
Yeah okay anyway, all that to say, I've fallen madly in love with Mirage of Blaze - it made me think of X and Please Save my Earth and, man, this a huge compliment as those two new animes are some of my most favourites in the history of ever. I felt all dreamy when I went to bed. I actually dreamt of the series. It's haunting me. The characters are haunting me. And I boy do I love the feeling! :-)
Also, please, I'm talking to MoB fans out there. What the bloody hell happened Thirty Years Ago? Cause okay I caught a glimpse of something that happened to Kagetora Four Hundred Years Ago it seems - and holy shit, this is why I love anime, they don't hold their punches - but what did happen Thirty Years Ago? It's driving me crazy. So if you know? Spoil me, man. I beg you! Thanks.
And two non-anime stuff - #1 seems like I'm gonna see Superman Returns tomorrow with Teh BIL and also #2 hey, I'll get a double dose of Richard Burgi every Saturday at the end the month - Point Pleasant premieres on TF1 on the 29th and M6 is still airing The Sentinel.
No, a last thing. Remember wish #1 from yesterday's post? Seems like it was granted hee! *bounces* Oh yeah baby! [ETA: Spoilers for S3 in the comments; take it as a warning or an invitation :-)]

Things like casting and things like the direction of certain relationships that were hinted at...

Have fun with Superman Returns, I'm still not sure whether I want to see it or not, so I'm quite anxious to see your review.
And OMG short haired Charlie. *glee*

Date: 2006-07-20 08:40 pm (UTC)Hey if you want me to burn some stuff for you, just let me know. Off the top of my head the anime and/or yaoi I can burn are:
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1786) | Sukisyo (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4633) | Mirage of Blaze (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=934) | Princess Princess (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6467) | Gakuen Heaven (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6311) | Haru wo Daiteita (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5215)
If you want a whole list of the stuff I have, let me know? I also have more yaoi... not always the best quality but sometimes you just want to wallow in the porn and all, right? lol
Re; Superman Returns, I didn't know whether I wanted to go and see it myself, but tbf!Sandrine told me it was safe, so I'll give it a try. Henry has some very cheap tickets, so I'm telling myself that even if I end up disliking it, at least I won't have paid a fortune for it, you know?
And hee shorhaired!Charlie, man, this was awesome news!

Date: 2006-07-23 08:18 am (UTC)I'm a big MoB fan too, and I don't really get what happened 30 years ago, either. A friend and I discovered that series by renting the first DVD (four eps?), loved it, got dinner, went back and picked up the rest of the series and watched it all in one sitting. After the first four hours or so, she was humming calliope music every time they brought up the past.
The reason I'm really commenting, is to ask (as I see you have a couple posts about getting into anime)...have you tried Saiyuki yet?
Very very good, dances brazenly all over that slash line, and has some really great characters. Still has that "I've been smoking crack" approach that so much anime does, but as you watch, you get more and more back story, and the stuff in between is pretty entertaining.

Date: 2006-07-23 09:31 am (UTC)So even with the rest of the series, we might not really get what happened? Hee that's a bit frustrating. Guess I'll have to hit some MoB communities and dig around :-) Thanks, anyway!
Also, yeah I already have Saiyuki - it's part of my Real DVD anime collection. Actually when I was talking about getting into anime, it was much a matter of 'going back to anime' after a little hiatus ;-) I'm catching up with lot of series I'd started downloaded but stopped or just never started downloading in the first place.
And you're right, Saiyuki is really good, so it would have been a good story to rec if I hadn't know about it, already, so thanks *g*
