SPN, again. Plus a question.
Sep. 9th, 2006 04:08 pmGod, each time you think you've seen all the best promo shots for SPN - here for s2 - some new ones come up and you realise you were really naive. Thanks to
mrscutedean for pointing them out to me :-)
Speaking of SPN - which seems to be the subject by default these days - I have this fic I've been wanting to write for the longest time - well, seems that way to me, at any rate - and even though only pieces of dialogues have been written down I already have a title in mind... which might sound a bit obscure when compared with the fic itself. And I was wondering, when you pick a title, do you try to make it easy for the reader to see a link between aforementioned title and the fic or do you just pick the title that came to you, even if you think you'll be the only one to get it? As long as it's clear to you why you picked it, it's all right?
Titles are always a difficult matter to me; either I'll know what it is even before finishing the fic or it'll drive me crazy and coming up with one will prove even more difficut than writing the actual story.
And still on the subject of SPN - so I'm obsessed, so sue me *cough* - I've checked out the DVDs over at amazon.com and am I right in thinking that it's only 35€? Everything included, ie the DVDs, the taxes and the shipping? Or did I miss something somewhere? Cause if that's right, that's so ridiculously cheap that I'm not sure I'll be able to resist long, region 2 be damned! A celles qui ont acheté le coffret sur amazon.com, vous avez payé combien, finalement ? En euro, je veux dire *g*

I usually have a really hard time coming up with a title, so I can't think of whether other people will get it. If the title I find makes sense, even if only in my own head, I keep it.

Kinda the answer I was hoping for... I think that's just the way to go *nods* Thanks *g*

You certainly did; when you're right, you're right!

Date: 2006-09-09 02:25 pm (UTC)Hmm, titles are funny things, sometimes mine have no relevance to the story that anyone can see, except me. Sometimes they are obvious, but I almost always know what I want to call a story before I finish it, and once I have decided, I can't call it anything else.
Right now I am working on one called 'Dude, there is a time and place' It's a fun one *g*
And on the price of the DVDs I am not sure if I should be happy or just straight pissed. I bought the 1st half of the English set (because I just couldn't wait) from Amazon and it cost me £23 with postage, which was still cheaper than in the shops. I ordered the region 1 complete set from Amazon.com and it's costing me £25 with postage. I feel like making love the the exchange rates ;P

Btw, I quite like the title to your new fic :-)
I'm kinda in love with the exchange right now as well - well, as far as the dollars is concerned, that is, cause yours is a different story *glares*

Date: 2006-09-10 08:49 pm (UTC)Hee hee, um, oops *g* I swear, it is so much cheaper for me to buy things outside of the UK, coz everything here here is so expensive. Plus the £ just pawns the universe ;P
Btw, I quite like the title to your new fic :-)
Would you like it even more if I said it involved public sex?

Date: 2006-09-10 09:08 pm (UTC)Yes, oops! And why can't you have the euros, anyway? lol Would be so much simpler and all *is selfish*
Would you like it even more if I said it involved public sex?
*perks up* Public sex? Ohhh yeah, I might like it even more that way yeah *smacks lips*

Date: 2006-09-09 09:00 pm (UTC)My new OTP of life: Dean/Coat.
Forever and ever, amen.
And about titles: They come to me in two ways. With the SPN story that I am writing now, I literally wrote the title and then started the story. But in most cases, the title comes about last. I've never really thought about how Titles come about because either they lead me through the story, or they fall into place in the end. If you can't come up with something, you can do what I do -- listen to music. Maybe you have a song or something that reminds you of your story. I have written many a story where a fragment of the song's lyrics becomes the title of my story.
OOOHHH!!! I'm so excited to be in Supernatural with you!!!

Date: 2006-09-10 08:49 pm (UTC)My method when I can't find the title is to look for quotes. I'll think 'okay this fic is about trust' so I look up for quotes that have to do with 'trut' and then I'll find one that speaks to me and either take it all or take a little part of it... But songs work too, definitely.

Dude, I know! I was thinking the same thing the other day; even better yet, this time you'll be watching at the same time as I! Well, I'll watch with a little delay - one day - but you know what I mean *g*

Date: 2006-09-09 10:56 pm (UTC)Uuuuu, shiny, thanks.
And about the title, from a strictly readers PoV, I don't really care if the title makes sense. Sometimes, it makes things even more interesting if it doesn't (thought it can be fun if the writer includes an explanation of the title at the end/in another post/etc). But yeah, you should totally go with the title you feel is right. *nodnod*
In conclusion ZOMG SPN!!!

Yes.
*g* Great non-answer, isn't it? I can go both ways. But remember, ultimately we write fics for ourselves. Then we share and, hopefully, other people like them, and it's all good. So go with the title you like; it won't change the content of the story. Then, two years from now, someone will ask on Sentinelficfind about, "a story of Castalie's, had a really weird title..." ;~)

Date: 2006-09-10 09:00 pm (UTC)You're right. I usually do that anyway but this time it just seemed a little more obscure and suddenly it got me curious about the whole title 'policy', you know? Not that there's even one, but still... Thanks :-)

Edit.
Stare at story and wonder about a title.
Still thinking.
Still thinking.
The damn story is ready to post and only the bloody title is holding that up.
Shoves something one worded related to story in as title.
Posts.
In conclusion. I hate titles!
Also, those pics? *fans self*
