Do viđenja, Hrvatska!
Aug. 17th, 2007 07:21 pmAm back from my trip, flist *waves*
Boy am I knackered! We left the hotel at 3.00 this morning and I'd decided to pull an all-nighter with a litte tv marathon; hail to Croatian tv that doesn't believe in dubbing! We arrived at the airport around 6.00 am and we were supposed to leave at 8.30... except there was a small incident with our plane and as a result we left Dubrovnik four hours later.
Since I can sleep pretty much everywhere, I did sleep during the wait - in the most improbable positions, apparently but, dude, when you're tired, you don't care. Well, I don't, at any rate. Also, sleeping during a four-hour wait is the best way to pass the time *nods*
Four hours later our plane took off and lo! We didn't crash or anything \o/
So. The trip. Was fantastic. Croatia is a gorgeous country; its landscapes are beautiful - the Adriatic coast is definitely a must see - and its history is interesting and compelling as well as sad and touching; you hear about the war and see some of the leftovers quite often and it's so impressive to see the country as it is now, when you think about what it must have looked like twelve years ago. It was odd to think that our guides, who were in their late twenties, had all seen the war and actually talked about it from experience...
Anyway, gorgeous and interesting country. And the weather! Oh the weather, dude, Croatia apparently hasn't forgotten what Summer is supposed to be ♥ ♥ It was also awesome because we actually got to visit two countries during the week; we spent a day in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
We went to Trogir and wandered in the old city then along the sea, we spent a relaxing time at Krka, a national park, and admired its many waterfalls, we spent a day in Split and visited Diocletian's palace; it's an amazing area which is also a lot of fun in the sense that people actually live inside the walls, so you'll find buildings and monuments dating back to the beginning of the 4th century right next to vespa and cafés and hairdressing salons... or better yet, you'll see a church and a palace and right between them you'll find clothes drying from a rope... I mean, it's so weird thinking of those people living in apartments right in the palace/city!
There was an outing in a little secluded beach in one of the islands near the coast. We went to Hvar, made a stop at Neoum, a little village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then kept going til we reached Dubrovnik where we spent another day... the old city is gorgeous.
Then we went to Bosnia again, except this time we spent the whole day there. We first stopped in a little village, which I 'think' was called Pocitel - or something like that - before arriving in Mostar where we spent an afternoon.
In between the big visits, we also visited some small villages like Igrane, for instance, and spent our after-visits - we would be back to the hotel between 5 and 6.00 pm usually - at the beach, which was, like, ten meters from our buildings... very cute and small beaches. Forget about sand, though, it's all about shingle beaches over there. At least, all the beaches we saw were like that. It's not exactly comfortable when sprawling on your towel, but it does make for a very gorgeous sea colour; transparent and all :-)
So anyway, I had a wonderful time and fell in love with yet another country *g*
Oh! And something I loved right away with Croatia. So I always watch tv when I'm abroad - during the nights and all - and wanna know the first commercial I saw when I switched the tv on? Supernatural! It did bode well right from the start, eh? Lol Incidentally, that was my first self-taught lesson since that's how I learnt that 'večeras' meant 'tonight'.
I know I never got around to upload the pictures from my trip to Norway but I did upload some of the ones I took in Croatia; they're at my Photobucket account: Croatia and Bosnia. They're not the best quality but I still like them :-)
Okay and now I'm gonna go into tabbing frenzy and tab as many SPN fics as I can... and I'll also try to catch up with the flist, though, of course I'm sorta dreading the skip=257842 thing. Plus, I'm knackered and all so for tonight I might just watch the latest Kyle XY that I just downloaded and crash...

Date: 2007-08-17 05:55 pm (UTC)Il avait l'air bien sympa ton trip.

Date: 2007-08-17 07:53 pm (UTC)I'm so glad you had fun. :D
And OK, so, the fact that I know most of these places and that hey, I know what your subject line means (and also the fact that I watch that very SPN on Croatian TV every week; in fact this weeks' ep was just over an hour ago - it was The Benders, with the crazy people!hunting family), is making me way to giddy to be entirely normal. ;)
And yes, no dubbing on TV is heaven. Our government is talking about maybe starting to do it and I'm just sort of cringing and hoping really, really hard it doesn't happen.

Date: 2007-08-19 11:38 am (UTC)Dude, I so squeed when I saw the SPN commercials! I knew I'd love Croatia a lot with that kind of welcome lol
You're kidding me, they're thinking of starting to dub shows now? That's insane! I mean, even though it sucks I can understand how difficult it is to start introducing the whole 'show in their original versions when you always got the dubbed version' thing but the other way around? Sounds so odd! Why do they want to do that?
no subject
Date: 2007-08-19 02:56 pm (UTC)Because they're insane? Or, I don't know, something about the "preservation of the Slovene language" *rollseyes* Like that's gonna help, everyone's just gonna start downloading more - they're encouraging piracy, they are. ;)
But hopefully, they'll realize what a completely moronic idea it is before it's too late. *crosses fingers*

Je me fais un peu de souci pour Mardi soir, je sens le coup où mon frère et moi allons devoir tuer quelques heures dans les rues de la capitale avant de pouvoir venir te rejoindre au petit matin... *soupir*

Date: 2007-08-19 05:12 pm (UTC)Donc on y retourne:
