New family in the neighbourhood...
Sep. 14th, 2005 02:34 pmI watched Supernatural yesterday and was pleasantly surprised as it was pretty cool. It's like a new version of Poltergeist: the Legacy, like say, P:TL On The Road without the Legacy itself, granted, and of course without Derek Rayne, for which we all rejoice. I'm quite happy with the brothers too and really enjoyed how Sam, ie Little Brother, is so not the clueless tag along that he could have been - he's strong and stubborn and competent and he pushes Dean, ie Big Brother, as much as Dean pushes him and isn't beyond manhandling him either and I have to agree with Dean, they make one hell of a good team. And well, it doesn't hurt that they also make one hell of a pretty team, too *cough*
I was a bit disappointed by the ending though because I thought it was kinda, I don't know, easy maybe that Jess - that was her name, btw? - got killed like that. I think I wanted more conflicted feelings about Sam joining his brother on the Crusade. I mean, obviously Sam had to join Dean - or else hi, the series would have had one episode which er, not so good - but I wanted him to do it against his will... here, yeah okay he's still doing it against his will in the sense that it was not what he wanted, but thing is he's now seeking revenge for his girlfriend's death, the conflict shifted. So I was a bit disappointed by what I almost saw as a cope out. Then again, okay why not - if The Big Bad Thing That Killed Their Mom was stupid enough to target Sam directly and make him join his brother, thus a) making the team stronger and b) turning Sam into a vengeful angel, I guess The BBT had their reasons *shrug* And it supposedly makes the whole thing more personal and all, I get that so I won't mention it anymore, promise :-)
Now the real question is how long exactly it'll take me to slash the brothers *snicker*
I also think I'll download the second episode next week *nodnod*
Btw, did you visit the site for the series? I did cause I wanted to make sure that daddy!Winchester was who I thought he was - he looked like Dr Marcase from Burning Zone to me but since it's been ages since I watched that series, I wasn't 100% sure - and the site is insane! It's like playing a game... if you have time to spare you can play around and something cool is that you can read daddy!Winchester's diary. Twas fun. In particulr as you read the entries following mommy!Winchester's death. Plus you have other cool stuff inside.
I need to download Bones now and I'm getting behind in my Prison Break download too - boy, a fangirl's work is never done, is it? *g*
ETA: I love LJ so so fucking much. Why? *points right*
supernatu_icons. And the comm went live in July. Why wait for the good stuff, right?

Date: 2005-09-14 06:57 pm (UTC)Looks like I was lucky then. I saw it once in the Czech TV and twice in the German TV and have some of the best eps on tape. The firs one - the EBOLA plate on Marcase car made me snicker - then the one where he had to pretend he is terminally sick and then the one where they used him for the experiment with afterlife. The best eps! :)
And you are right, when they kicked him out, I stopped watching. The second guy was really blah :(

Date: 2005-09-14 08:02 pm (UTC)And I loved the moment when he was sick and seeing all those things from his past - great angst!
I almost felt bad for the other guy but it didn't work. Also, I remember watching that episode and I had no idea what the hell had happened and I kept waiting for my guy to appear... talk about a trauma. At least now with internet, you know beforehand what is going to happen if you want to - spares you the trauma lol

Date: 2005-09-14 05:14 pm (UTC)See, what I started thinking is that whatever it is, it has something to do with Sam in particular, and the women he's close to. In the beginning, the lights first started fritzing in Sam's room and presumably no where else since nobody else noticed. Then his mother was killed when she went into his room. Jess was killed when Sam got home, and I don't think it was any coincidence that it happened right after Sam got reinvolved in the supernatural stuff.
So I think on the surface it could look too easy, but I also think there's plenty of potential there for us to find out that there is other stuff going on and that's why it happened the way it did. It will be the long arc that we only get hints and glimpses of now and then, like Mulder's quest for his sister was on the X-Files.
PS: Dean is gorgeous.

Date: 2005-09-14 05:40 pm (UTC)So there's something missing here to me and eek I'm curious, alright lol I'm really curious to know more - and since we're just one episode into the season, I know I'll have to be patient lol - about the whys because it's like there's a broken link or something.
PS: I totally second your PS.

no subject

Date: 2005-10-09 08:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, I downloaded the pilot, because I don't have dozens of CDs that I haven't yet watched, and my harddisk is most definitely not choking with yet to be watched episodes of stuff... As I said, All Your Fault.
Dean is not exactly my type*, but Sam is, and I haven't watched any "ghost-story series" since Millennium and X-Files, which were a looong time ago. I'll download the second episode. (I do hope their father won't go the way of Mulder's sister, though... Or if TPTB do that, then they should at least make the Mulder&Scully of this series canon, too :D)
The way the Thing went after Jessica thus practically forcing Sam's hand... yeah, it offered an easier way out. But maybe this is what we are supposed to know about the characters - that Sam wouldn't have followed his brother if it weren't for this personal attack. He'd be a different guy if he had left Jess and the prospect of a "normal" life just on account of his father's disappearance.
*OTOH, I also disliked Mal and thought he was kind of an ass for my first episodes of Firefly, and that changed, so who knows...

Date: 2005-10-10 12:21 pm (UTC)Dude, not that banner again! What did I do this time?
*reads* Ooooh. YAY to that banner again! I'll take full responsibilities for that one - my pleasure!
Also, technically neither Sam nor Dean are my type - or more precisely, of the two, Sam should be. Yet, I'm rooting for Dean something fierce. I guess I was able to find some of the elements I love best in a character with Dean, anyway :-)
You go and download the four episodes, mate, you do that *cheers*
But maybe this is what we are supposed to know about the characters - that Sam wouldn't have followed his brother if it weren't for this personal attack.
I guess so. Or else it was just too - easy and all.
Also, some people think Sam has something to do with both his mother and Jessica's death because, and I quote "he was there both times" but technically, he wasn't there for Jess. He only arrived when she was already glued to the ceiling, didn't he? So I mean, yeah, there's certainly one hell of a connexion with Sam - he has to be the link somehow, or an important part of it, but I can't say HE was responsible per se. What do you think?
no subject
Date: 2005-10-10 12:57 pm (UTC)The fact that the Lurking Silhouette was hovering next to Sam's bed (back in the past) would indeed suggest that Sam was the target of the Thing (in which way remains to be seen), but she interrupted whatever it was, so she was punished. Though, in this case, the women seem rather objects than subjects, so it could be that the Thing was trying to get to the father by killing his wife.
OTOH, what the Thing accomplished was that the man became a relentless hunter of the occult. And now, in the present, this is exactly what it accomplished with Sam, too. A force that recruits its warriors by destroying their ties to the "normal" life?
This could be just worthless babble, anyway... but you asked what I thought, and I'm feeling unusually verbose after a day of mindless image-cropping for the job :D

Date: 2005-10-11 10:03 am (UTC)I certainly like that theory better. I mean, when I saw that Big Bad Thing had killed Jessica, thus pushing Sam into going hunting and actually giving him the right motivation to do so, my first thought was "how stupid can those forces of evil be, really". So yours is more interesting *nods*
