Okay. So. On the question of Ugly Betty; [livejournal.com profile] rosengirl, you'll be happy to know that I think I could get into it. Once you focus on the crack and accept that the whole OTT and stereotypical thing is part of it, it get easier to go with the flow. It's crack and funny and it can be quite touching too.

Also, I really do like many of the characters: Betty is all kinds of awesome - though, boy, does she make me cringe sometimes! - the whole Suarez clan is very dear to my heart - I adore Justin! And I adore that his character is the way he is - and I really like Christina. Daniel has daddy issue and big brother issue and confidence issue and that's of the good. Oh and I'm happy because Christopher Gorham's character came in the picture and I can't wait to see more of him.

And speaking of shows that recently made it to France. I watched the first two episodes of Friday Night Lights on Sunday. I liked it. It wasn't Love at First Sight or anything but I watched both episodes from start to finish. Which surprises me a bit because I don't give a damn about American football. I tried to watch a match once - from the Superbowl - and it made me laugh. But apparently FNL caught my interest.

Though, wow, the religious theme is so heavy! No wonder so many things are screwed up in our world; God is apparently way too busy dealing with American football! QED.

Anyway, this is another show I'll try. See if I wanna follow it every week. Technically it's not my kind of show but you never know...

On the book front now. I'm halfway through Liquor by Poppy Z Brite and I'm having a blast. If you enjoy queer lit - which, dude, I didn't forget who I'm talking to, I'm just sayin', is all - and food? This book is for you. Food porn, guys, food porn. And friendship and love. With a serving of mystery - this is Brite, after all. What's not to love?

Yeah, pretty much everyone I've seen talk about FNL mentions how even if you don't like American football you should give the show a try because the football is the least important part.

To be honest, I couldn't even get to the part where I could make up my mind about the football - I just couldn't get past all of the religious stuff.

It's a pity, because I hear it's an amazing show, but the second they started praying before a game was the second I knew this was not my cup of tea. ;)

I do love Ugly Betty, though.

Hi, I have an exam tomorrow today, which I will fail because I didn't even really study (I don't even know why I applied for it, really, I knew I wasn't gonna study) and I should go to sleep but I don't wanna. And how are you doing? :D

Many people in my flist are raving about FNL but I never felt the desire to download it. When I saw that it was going to air here, I decided to give it a go - more for Kyle Chandler than anything else, to be honest :-)

The religious stuff is, like, half of the show, isn't it? Actually, what with the American football thing and the religious thing, it does look like a Very American Show.

Question is, will I get into it or not? It always amuses me when I'm not so sure about a show; I'm so used to falling for a new series in the first ten seconds minutes, you know? lol It's weird because on the one hand, I know it's not my kind of show at all. On the other, I can't help but be curious about it. Oh, well.

Ugly Betty is growing on me *nods*

Hi! Good luck with the exam tomorrow today, then? What is it? And I hope it won't be too horrible, then! *hugs*

I'm doing just fine, thanks :-) I should be freaking out because I'm still out of a job but, well, things will improve sooner or later. Right? And, in the meantime, we're having a great FP Weekend this weekend in Lyon and it's gonna be a blast!

FNL - just my 2ps worth

Unsurprisingly, it's not on in the UK so I downloaded a couple to see what the fuss was about - watched them both, *hated* it, I'm afraid; just didn't get what's to like. ::shrug::

Really? You mean we got two shows before the UK did? I always thought we came last - what with the time it takes TPTB to dub the whole season and everything...

I'd have thought at least Ugly Betty aired in the UK, actually. What about the German version, then, do you know?

Only FNL isn't on in the UK (that's the show I hated *g*). Ugly Betty's been on for a while - I'm kind of indifferent to UB; it's OK, don't love it, don't hate it.

I don't see FNL ever getting on to a mainstream station here, it's just too American. It'll no doubt go out on on eof the satellite stations eventually.

Ok.

Funny you should say that because it's not on a mainstream station here, which would have to be expected from a brand new show, admittedly.

Come to think of it, Canal+, TF1 and M6 are usually the networks that are pretty hot on the new show front so it's a sort of surprise to see FNL start somewhere else...
