New Numb3rs - Don/Charlie + Episode clip
Feb. 8th, 2006 12:43 amEverything is Numb3rs - you'd think I'd get tired of that joke? Well you'd be wrong! - and particularly this post. So a) fic and b) video clip.
a) This is one of the two Numb3rs fics I've written three weeks ago. It's the angst free Don/Charlie I promised myself I'd write one day :-) Thanks to
yami_tai for the beta, you're a star *g*
Title: Don Is
Pairing: Don/Charlie [incest]
Rating: A little R
Word Count: around 1985
Summary: Charlie reflects on everything that Don is.
Don is a man of obsessions. That's one of the many reasons why Charlie loves him. Being himself a pretty driven man, Charlie understands obsession; he knows what it means to be completely focused on a task, to be engrossed in an idea. He knows the concept by heart, and Don is no different.
It shows from the smallest details to the biggest ones.
At home for instance. Don does, indeed, need to have his own rack of CDs because he can't stand having them organized - or disorganized in this case - in a system other than the one he's used to. Charlie doesn't mind; as long as Don doesn't try to mess with his own CDs, it's all right with him. He follows a personal system himself, one that could, certainly, only be detected by chaos theory but it works for him.
Don is obsessed with tidiness in his own house. As if at least here, he can control his environment. And Charlie understands that too, respects it. It's another form of focusing on the details for him. Don likes to have everything in place in order to be able to find them at once, Charlie likes to have everything displayed in front of him so that he can sense the bigger picture without ever losing sight of each of its components. It brings the same results, only the method differs.
As much as Charlie respects Don's way of doing things though, it doesn't stop him from driving his brother crazy. He takes great pleasure in discarding his clothes on the floor when he's about to go to bed... not necessary to go sleep. He's always curious to see if Don will rise to challenge. Which he usually does. In more ways than one.
Don is also obsessed with scrabble, which doesn't sit that well with Charlie but he indulges his brother because each time they play, he knows he can blather about proportional-integral-derivative method or Gauss-Kronrod quadrature as early as breakfast the next morning without feeling guilty. As he sees it, Don always owes him for the humiliation he was subjected to the day before.
There are tons of little details like those - details only Charlie knows. Or maybe, to be fair, it's a knowledge that Charlie has in common with those other lovers who shared a life with Don once. But he prefers not to include those variables of Don's former life. Charlie doesn't get to luxuriate in irrational and petty behavior that often, so he considers he can allow himself to about this.
What always makes him feel better though, is the knowledge that for each similar system, you can find unique variables. Like all those intimate moments that only belong to them.
Like the fact that Don is obsessed with Charlie's neck, his navel, his upper thighs, that area where hip and leg meet. He'll sometimes spend a lifetime stroking, licking and kissing them until Charlie would swear he can't remember the most basic theorems. And it feels so good losing himself that way. It's mind blowing, in more ways than one.
Don can't get enough of sucking or fucking him either. He loves nothing more than Charlie, pliant and eager, under him, completely at his mercy, a moaning and writhing body meant for pleasure. He knows what pace is assured to leave Charlie incoherent, what rhythm to choose for what mood; whether they want it fast and hard, or long and slow. Sometimes Don will draw it out, focusing all his attention on Charlie's responses, wanting to bring them both to orgasm slowly, and other times he'll just want to fuck Charlie and it's like every fiber of his being is meant for Charlie and him only.
They are far from being the only parts of Charlie's body that Don is obsessed with. He's pretty crazy about his hair and his mouth, too. He'll ask Charlie to suck him, Don's hands firmly buried in his hair - like they were home - playing with the curls over and over again in bliss, taking pleasure from the simple contact. Then he lets Charlie suck him off, that talented tongue knowing each secret of Don's and always so eager to please too. Even though they sometimes clash outside the bedroom, their personalities and perceptions of the world being quite different, here, just between the two of them, there's nothing they ignore about the other. Charlie has to admit that is the kind of knowledge that outweighs all the others. Not that he would admit it aloud though, he has a reputation to preserve, after all. But loving Don and being loved in return, well, it's an experiment that makes everything else pale in comparison.
Don's passion doesn't just pertain to their personal lives. It also translates in the bigger scheme of things. It's there when Don works, when his main goal is to solve his cases. It's in the way Don prefers losing sleep to losing time, or when he deems it necessary to miss a meal if it means he won't miss what might turn out to be a breakthrough. He's motivated, dedicated and he refuses to admit defeat. He can be a bit forceful, but you just need to understand what is at stake to understand the reason why. And anyway, Don is usually harder on himself than he is on others.
Don cares for people in general, and his family in particular - he's fiercely protective. That’s how he always has been.
He wants to help his dad, to be there for him. He never shows resentment for having left his life in Albuquerque behind, he accepted it was the only thing he could do. And after all, he could have gone back but he chose to stay. He had his father and brother to take care of. And when you lose someone, you want to stay close to those who're left, so he never regrets doing so.
Much of his free time is spent at the house instead of his apartment, even before he and Charlie got together. The reason behind it at first was that he wanted to check on his dad. Now it's more because he's used to being with 'the boys' as he calls them. He's also happy to see how far their dad has come since they lost Margaret, takes pleasure in their father's smiles and teasing. If he lets Alan fuss over him, even when he feels he doesn't need it, it's because he knows it gives Alan the feeling that he still has a say in his son's well being. Besides, Charlie knows Don enjoys the treatment. It's good being fussed over sometimes. Charlie knows, people always behave that way towards him. He doesn't complain either, that's the way things are.
And finally, there's Don’s obsession for Charlie - powerful but never overwhelming. Charlie sees it in the way Don protects him, even when he doesn't need it, which in retrospect always makes Charlie smile. Like father like son. Don doesn't only protect him from the dangers of his job, he's also there to make sure people never get the feeling Charlie is an easy target. Intelligence is sometimes intimidating and in Charlie's case, it's downright scary. Don is always there to diffuse any situation that could get out of hand. Not that Charlie can't defend himself, he might be distracted a lot but he's never been a pushover and he is never afraid to say what he has to say, but the point isn't that Don has to defend Charlie, the point is that he wants to. He always says it's his prerogative as a big brother, and his privilege as a lover.
Charlie never knows what to answer to that. So he doesn't say anything - only smiles and ends up kissing his brother for being, well, Don.
Don knows when to shelter Charlie and when to push him. He knows the exact line not to cross - understands when it's right to shake Charlie, not just physically but emotionally too. It demands great skills that few people master, and Don almost never fails. But even if he does, Charlie never resents him because he knows Don always tries, and sometimes that's the only thing that matters.
All his life, Charlie has been in contact with people who either ridiculed him or ignored him, sometimes both. Sometimes they did it behind his back, others were bold enough to do it to his face. Those who did neither were usually at the very least uncomfortable with him. In any case, Charlie is used to people not really seeing him. But he never feels invisible or mocked with Don. Don listens to him. He might not always understand or like what he hears but he listens nonetheless. More than that, he trusts both Charlie and his math, which to Charlie equals the same thing anyway.
Don is passionate with those who he considers his. His team, his friends, his family, his lover. In Charlie's case, he's doubly Don's and it makes all the difference. They're brothers, but they're also more and it does raise the intensity of their relationship to a new level. As if they have mixed two worlds into one. Two dynamics as well. And Don is jealous and possessive. It never fails to make Charlie feel special. And for once, for who he is and not what his mind can achieve.
When Charlie gets lost in his numbers, it's Don who can usually reach out to him and bring him back. Don has always been a sore loser - which always amused their parents immensely - and though he's more gracious now, it doesn't mean he enjoys losing; Don would consider it a defeat if he couldn't reach his brother. So he makes sure it never happens. And Charlie is grateful for that.
So yes, Don is man of many obsessions. And when everything has been said and done, he's the man who loves Charlie unconditionally, and that might be the only thing Charlie needs to know.

b) I did something completely new and oh so exciting last night! Now? I'll give you a moment to have naughty thoughts before I actually tell you what it was and shatter the illusion...
Okay, perving over, guys. So! Remember that I kindaworshipped fell in love with "The Running Man" and that ending scene in particular? Well, long story short, I made a clip of that ending scene - my very first vid editing and all, yay! - and because I thought others might enjoy it too, I uploaded the file at rapidshare - I know, that site sucks a tad but YSI and Megaupload weren't cooperating today so...
Numb3rs 2x15 - Ending Scene [.wmv 10.4Mo MB]
If there's a problem with the file, please let me know? Everything worked just fine with both Clark and Charlie, but you never know...

Date: 2006-02-08 01:20 am (UTC)Yay for learning new tricks! I know the buzz that comes from the first time of discovering something, so yay you!
Just so I know I'm not seeing things, there was earlier another entry about this? Because I wanted to ask what program did Charlie have for video editing, but I couldn't comment at the time. :D
Don likes to have everything in place in order to be able to find them at once, Charlie likes to have everything displayed in front of him so that he can sense the bigger picture without ever losing sight of each of its components. It brings the same results, only the method differs.
Oh, good observation! That's so them. Me, I approve of Charlie's method, but I'm biased. ;)
He follows a personal system himself, one that could, certainly, only be detected by chaos theory but it works for him.
Hee! That's what I keep telling people about my "system" :D
