Just watched the new SPN. From what I could gather from my flist, this was a 'hate it' or 'love it' episode. I can't say I 'hated' it but I was underwhelmed, I guess, and really not into the episode, which, admittedly was a new feeling. Oh, it definitely had its moments and there was fun stuff and though I'll always love the serious, dark, angsty episodes best, I also tremendously enjoy the humourous/parodic episodes SPN gives us so that's not the reason why either, but I think I might have enjoyed it more if the strike hadn't happened.

Like, if there had been no endless hiatus after endless hiatus and if I knew we still had our 10+ episodes left. If it makes sense? Because there're so few episodes in store for us I couldn't help but feel like we were wasting precious time. If, again, it makes sense. Maybe I'll watch the episode again when s4 starts and I know there's a full season waiting for me :-)

I also watched the premiere of Junjou Romantica and it was pretty cute and funny. It's been ages since I downloaded/watched anime - yaoi or otherwise - and I think I'll keep an eye on that series.

I was also reminded - it's not yaoi but it's about supernatural themes so the combo of SPN + anime made me think of it - Night Head Genesis. I watched the first two or three episodes Back Then and now I have a craving for it, except the torrents I found for the series were all inactive so if someone could help me here, please? My anime human source, namely [livejournal.com profile] katikat, isn't here at the moment so I'm hoping someone else will know what I'm talking about :-)

And lastly, because I'm still at a stage where I need a little MCR ref a day; I watched the second DVD of Life on the Murder Scene, with the making of several videos, and ohh making ofs are l.o.v.e! I love the very ending 'scene' of the Helena making of when Frank is trying to get into the coffin; the way Ray just holds him back by his waist as if the guy weights nothing was cute as hell. And Mikey being all 'Hi, today I'm gonna die!' during the Ghost of You video was very fun as well.

I just love those guys to pieces hee ♥ ♥

I haven't read any comments about the SPN ep yet, but, well, I read a book while it was on, and that never happens. As far as I was concerned, they lost me at the very beginning when they waited so long to bring in the boys. :(

Yes, I know the feeling. The guys were fun in Hell House but I didn't care enough about them to actually want an episode that was basically their own show.

Especially not after waiting so long to get SPN back and especially when we only have, like, three or four episodes left?

I guess I wasn't in the right frame of mine to appreciate it.

Well, it happens :-)

Lol Who needs to say more when they said '♥ MCR ♥', right?

I'm curious to see what you'll think of it.

Well, I've seen it now and while I enjoyed the episode it's not one of my favourites. I did like how it was filmed and laughed at the end, and the ghost guy was creepy, plus seeing the guy ( whose name I'm blanking on ) die in front of them was a powerful thing. But even with all that it still didn't hit being great for me.

Maybe because seeing Sam and Dean through another lens disconnected them somehow. I'm not even sure.

I'm sure it really was the timing. I sound like a broken record but I think I just expected the Sam and Dean show and not Guest Character's Show instead, you know?

Also, seeing characters through another lens usually works for me. I love 3POV storylines; makes for interesting point of views, usually. I mean, I loved "Storyteller" with Andrew's running the show in Buffy but this... didn't work for me *pout*

Next week, then? :-)

I really didn't like it at all. A huge gap and then an episode with hardly any Dean and Sam or any reference to what's happening?

Not my idea of a fun 40 minutes.

Yes, that was my feeling too. I can't say it's their fault, it's the strike's fault, but I can't wait for next week's episode to make up for my last of interest *bounces a little*

Being spoiler free for SPN is a tradition; especially when it's about the last episodes of the season. Makes watching them so much more intense.

I really can't wait for those last three episodes... even if I know I might end up dead in the process lol

I didn't hate it either! If it had come sandwiched between two other episodes that were strongly Sam and Dean and such, I would have liked this a lot more. But I'd been waiting FOREVER for this ep and then it starts and I don't get Sam and Dean for, like, a good fifteen minutes? Not what I wanted out of my show.

Yes, the timing wasn't right for me either... Like you said, if it'd come sandwiched between two other episodes on a regular season it would have gone better.

Oh, well, it happens lol

From: [personal profile] enigel
I'll copypasta what I said to Merrin, because me - lazy:

I wasn't bored per se, I got caught in the action, but rather disappointed, because I didn't want a random ghost show, I wanted more stuff with Sam'n'Dean and got so little of it.

I don't want to touch the "[gay love as] piercing weapon" thing, so I'll try to take only the silver lining: there finally was a canonly gay character on SPN! Though, of course, according to the unwritten law of gay characters on TV, he died... :/

Yes, more Sam'n'Dean after such an annoying hiatus was what I was looking for; not the best timing.

Next week episodes should make up for it though *fingers crossed*

Ha! I knew the reasons why you didn't enjoy this ep as much as I did would be exactly why I enjoyed it so much! I was soooo worried that we'd be deep within the show's arc and only get angsty mythology eps from now on that having a standalone funny as hell ep after such a long hiatus was the best surprise for me ever! I had so much fun! I laughed! I squeed! I wanted to grab through the TV screen and pinch the boys' cheeks!

I was seriously bouncing in my seat and falling in love with the show all over again. *g*

Also, I think the ep was ten times more effective if you knew the actual reality shows it was making fun of, lol. I admit I got an extra kick out of that, being as I am a big fan of Ghost Hunters. :-)

Now I can't wait for more! Even if it's all angsty mythology from now on. :-)

Date: 2008-04-26 02:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com
But that's not the reason actually. Because like I keep telling you I do love and enjoy the funny episodes. I'm pretty sure I enjoy the funny episodes much more than you do the mythology eps, actually ;-)

I do think what didn't work for me was the timing. Like Merrin was saying above, if the episode had been sandwiched between two 'regular' episodes without a hundred years ago between the airing, I'd have enjoyed it more, I think. But the timing and the fact that there're so few episodes left for us to see kinda left me with the feeling that 'dude we don't have time for this!'

So, for serious, I think I'll try watching the episode at a later date *nods*

Now, though, I've been sorta spoiled for the trailer for next week - well, trailers being what they are, it's never really a reliable spoiler, granted - and I really can't wait for that episode :-) But I will try harder to stay 100% spoiler-free - including trailers, this time - for the last two episodes. It's so much more fun that way to me *g*

And I'm gonna stop now cause this is soon becoming a mail as opposed to a comment lol

No, no, I got that the timing was your main problem and that's what I meant: the main reason I enjoyed it SO MUCH was because of the timing. See, hiatus is never good for someone like me (who can sometimes grow tired of a show, you know? I'm not the most... faithful person ever when it comes to my TV loves, lol), particularly not with SPN, and had they dived right into the mythology and the main arc and done a very character driven angsty ep, I probably would have been a bit bored. Maybe even a lot. This came at a perfect time because it was exactly the kind of ep that makes me love the show and so it grabbed me and made me fall right back in love. Now I'm invested again and will be able to get into an angsty arc-driven ep so much better than if it had been right after the hiatus. I mean, personally, one ep to tie up the main arc would be enough for me when it comes to SPN so I definitely did not have the "we don't have time for this!" reaction you did. :-) I get why you did, though, I'm just not wired the same way when it comes to SPN, lol.

I am 100% spoiler-free myself. Did not watch any trailers, never visit the website... I shall go in completely unspoiled, wheee!

It'll never fail to amuse how differently we view that show :-) We're from different ends of the spectrum. Which is the proof that there's everything for everyone in SPN \o/ Not, as I always say, that I'm biased or anything, of course!

From your point of view, I'm happy we got that kind of episode, then. If you're invested again, that's a good thing, imho!

Oh and do you know where I can find active links for a download of Night Head Genesis?

Also, I'm downloading - or trying to - Jyu Oh Sei atm. Interesting stuff too. Though I'm really anxious about the outcome and would like the last files to work so that I can see how it's gonna end omg!

The bad ratings this episode received make me terribly sad. Did people even know that new eps were on?

I found some NHG eps in my MM account: http://www.mediamax.com/katikatnik/Hosted/Anime - unfortunately, I don't have all of them there :(

For anime stuff, this is a good site to find active links: http://www.tokyotosho.com/

If the links there don't work, I will ask a friend to send me the files to my MM acct, okie? Just let me know.

I long for my old anime torrent sites which all look neat and easy to access and easy to read and stuff *sigh*

Thanks for the link to your MM account, I'm starting to download some of the files :-)

And thanks for the other link, I'll go and see if I can find my way through the site.

If the links there don't work, I will ask a friend to send me the files to my MM acct, okie? Just let me know.

You're a star :-)

Heh. I did NOT know what to expect going in, and I =am= familiar with the shows they were mocking, so that worked for me, but I might have preferred a little more screen time for the boys, yes.

Now as far as the timing thing goes, it was just that, timing. One of the things Sera Gamble mentioned on one of her podcast interviews was that ep 3.13 was 90-some percent done when the strike began, so they only had to put the finishing touches on it before pre-production could start scouting locations, meaning it was only like two weeks after the strike ended that the actors were able to get back to work. (Obviously, the one line actually referring to the strike was added in, but it worked nicely, I thought, heh.)

And yeah, I've got issues with the treatment of the gay aspect of the episode, but on the other hand, I'm thankful that they didn't write any negative commentary from Sam or Dean in any way, shape, or form. They stayed entirely neutral, which was as it should be, really. (Someone elsewhere pointed out that they would love to see a male character actually hit on Sam and/or Dean and that Corbett totally should have since both the boys are quite a bit hotter than Ed, but I suppose we'll just have to take what we get, hmm?)

Date: 2008-04-27 09:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com
I was spoiler-free for the episode too. I think in this case, I should have been, that way I would have known not to expect anything linked to the arcs. Or to Sam and Dean for that matter lol

And the timing wasn't right, is all. No-one's fault, like I was saying above, but it just didn't play in this episode's favour as far as I'm concerned. Just one of those things.

You're right this seems to have been a bit of a Marmite episode of SPN for fans. I was disappointed too, though, and it puts even more pressure on the last three episodes to be brilliant.
