Jun. 11th, 2008 11:26 pmBadly Written, OTT Romance Novel of Doom has been read! God, the first one was a bit eye-roll inducing but at least it was well written - that is, I read fics written a hundred times better pretty much every day on the flist but it was readable - but the second one was a nightmare! But I defeated it and finished it and now it's behind me and it is a happy time indeed \o/ Just need to finish writing the blurb now.
Also, did you know that after knowing a man for one single week, it's apparently okay to say 'yes' when hetells asks you to marry him in six months time? I mean, that's totally appropriate behaviour. And, when you think of it, yes, why would you want to, you know, actually know someone before accepting to marry them? Imagine the time you'd save if you just got engaged after a single week!
But, okay, I said the novel was behind me now so shutting up *zips it*
My reward for persevering till the bitter end was new Bandom Big Bang fic. I picked the Bob/Mikey/Frank Mafia AU because a) hi, have you seen the pairing? and b) I can't resist mafia stories... I think it's the Italian in me. It's like The Godfather; I was such a fan of those films when I was a kid. It totally reminded me of my family. Minus the head-bashing, killing people part, that is. But, yeah, mafia stories with the family loyalty thing always get to me. So when I saw the synopsis, I was totally there! And I was inspired because the fic is all kinds of awesome ♥ ♥
Oh, and I'm eating chocolate while reading the fic, isn't that just the best way of reading a fic? Or the best way of eating chocolate, depending. I'd originally bought said chocolate to welcome the Romanian delegation of one that will arrive at my place on Saturday, except I can resist everything but temptation so the chocolate has been, let's say, sampled. I'll totally buy some more before you arrive,
enigel, though, promise :-)

Date: 2008-06-11 10:12 pm (UTC)It is crazy how much better written most fics are then all these published romance novels. I mean, the sex scenes for one. Romance novels sex scenes are just... not hot. Idk, maybe I'm just biased :P
Also, chocolate + fic = awesome. I don't know what it is, but they go so well together!

Date: 2008-06-11 10:28 pm (UTC)Because I'm a masochist, apparently. I've applied for a couple of freelance jobs and one of them is for a well-known publishing company that deals with that kind of books. They gave me two novels to read and I have to write the blurb and find a title. I'm not even sure they'll accept me, it's just some test work; all that effort for probably nothing. I must be a bit crazy :-)
Idk, maybe I'm just biased :P
Honestly, I don't think we're biased. Romance novel sex scenes in published novels are... they make me cringe, actually. Again, to each their own, and everything but, wow, they so don't work for me!
I don't know what it is, but they go so well together!
They so do, don't they? *loves*

Date: 2008-06-11 10:39 pm (UTC)Actually, finding a title and writing a blurb sounds sort of fun. Especially for a romance novel! They're always so cheesy, I imagine they'd be quite amusing to come up with!
I don't really think we're biased, either. I really think a lot of fic writers have a really good grasp of what makes a good sex scene. You know, the right balance of emotion and physicality, using words that aren't so cheesy they're going to make the reader cringe and thus be pulled out the scene (if that makes sense). There's definitely something to be said for realism, as well. Completely unrealistic sex just isn't that hot most of the time, IMHO.

Date: 2008-06-12 05:29 pm (UTC)It was incredibly fun writing those two blurbs. I tried not to be too enthusiastic re: the cheesyness but dude, it came with the territory so it wasn't exactly my fault.
And a resounding word for your last paragraph :-)

Date: 2008-06-11 10:34 pm (UTC)Better subjects. I'm trying that story tomorrow. Tonight I've just wallowed in epic Panic h/c and just. How did I get so lucky that all these amazing stories are being posted?!
The Panic story also had bonus Mikey/Pete!
Man, Arsenic. I bow down to her h/c skills.

Still haven't read that Panic h/c but it's been definitely tagged.

Date: 2008-06-12 06:31 am (UTC)LOL! Don't you just love the cheesy-ness of those romance novels? *g* Although, having said that, my parents got engaged after knowing each other just three weeks, and were married after three months. 30 years later, they're still together, so I guess it's at least possible... Unlikely, but possible *g*

Date: 2008-06-12 05:28 pm (UTC)It's always possible, case in point, but it's such an exception to the rule that they should have pointed it out, at least.
Like, if they'd been all 'we know it sounds crazy but this is it, I know we're just meant to be together' and their friends going 'you're crazy but we wish you luck' then it would have worked better for me.
Of course it wouldn't have been the same kind of romance, so.
Here it felt like it's how it's always done, you know? Of course you want to marry that guy, you've known for a whole week! That's more than enough time to know someone inside out. Right.

Date: 2008-06-12 07:39 pm (UTC)But it does make your parents' story so unique and awesome. That is, the part that really makes it so is that they're still together after thirty years... that makes the sap in me melt, really :-)

Date: 2008-06-17 08:53 am (UTC)So, anyway, I'm grateful for your forgiving nature, though you'll admit that I did get some nice chocolate stuff in replacement, so I promise you didn't lose anything :-)
And thanks!
