We went and watched the fireworks last night after all - and not from our garden I mean *g* I told you we didn't care much about morons, didn't I? We weren't in Choisy though (the fireworks were on the 13th here) but in Thiais. It was really enjoyable, they had a great show. And I liked the theme : a musical retrospective from the 40's to now. Nice *g* The theme for the one in Choisy was D-Day with songs like La Chanson des Partisans, Le Jour le Plus long, stuff like that - it was more formal and more moving in a way. Yesterday night was pure fun. Not that one was better than the other, mind - they just gave a different feel *g* We also had a very good view on other fireworks in the closest cities so we saw four different ones - only, from afar for those ones, you know? Very nice too *g*

Now, concerning the amendment to ban gay marriage they tried to pass in the US --where else, really?-- it appears that the Senate handed President George W. Bush a humiliating defeat Wednesday by rejecting a bid to amend the US Constitution to ban gay marriage. Though the debate isn't dead yet, far from it, so the threat is still there.

And I know that even some gays and lesbians are against this whole same-sex marriage issue because they don't believe in marriage anyway, but like I always say, lots of straight people are against or don't believe in it either, it never was a valid point to ban straight marriage, right? The point is, straights have a choice, we don't.

Also, hearing all those people always rant about how same-sex union is a threat to the heterosexual world and family, you would think straight couples aren't that stable or solid, really. Note to self : never introduce future girlfriend to straight people, it could destroy their own happiness and eventually their whole relationship [/sarcasm]

Oh and since I'm on the subject *eg* [livejournal.com profile] crystalskull and I created the Ten Commandments for our brand new Church of Kinky Gay Sex. Since some people were curious to know about them, we didn't want to let them down *eg*

Thou Shalt have kinky gay sex
Thou Shalt not limite thyself to twosomes
Thou Shalt use toys
Thou Shalt love to punish or/and be punished
Thou Shalt screw like minxs
Thou Shalt know how to beg for mercy
Thou Shalt try new positions all the time
Thou Shalt enjoy thyself
Thou Shalt respect thy partner
Thou Shalt never be ashamed of thy desires

That too and the fact that this seems to be the first amendment that actually takes AWAY someone's rights. I think that's just about the scariest thing of it. Amendments are normally made to further rights, not take them away -- I wonder if the US would still be as proud of their constitution if half the amendments are taking away people's rights?

The whole idea of it is pretty scary indeed - and talk about irony, the country that claims to be the one country where freedom and dignity prevail before everything else is the one trying to legally take away a certain part of it's population's rights. I mean, modern societies are supposed to go forward... not backward.

I'm just hoping a) it won't pass and b) it's not going to give other countries some bad ideas. Rednecks bigots of that kind seem to be US oriented, but you never know *shudder*

i am 100% anti-marriage and yet i giggled all through QaF episode 413 have a pro-gay marriage icon thingie on my userinfo. maybe it makes me a hypocrite but yeah, it's not about whether you believe in marriage or not, it's that everyone should have the choice of deciding whether they want to do it or not. which is basically, echoing what you said. bush is a moron.

i like the commandments.

I don't think it makes you a hypocrite - at all, on the contrary. I don't like those anti-gay marriage people who see the whole debate as both stupid and a waste of time because *they* don't believe in marriage. I mean, it's being selfish, IMHO. Even if one day same sex unions will become the norm, it won't change anything for those who don't believe in marriage - they still won't marry, period. Now, for those who actually believe in it... well, it'll change everything. That's supposed to be the whole point. We'll be able to say 'I can get married, but I chose not to because InsertReasonHere' instead of saying 'I'd like to marry my SO but I'm not allowed to'.

I've never understood the 'gay marriage is a threat to the family' line of reasoning. So, if I see a married gay couple, I'm immediately going to divorce my husband? I'm going to find my marriage somehow less meaningful? OMG, I don't want it any more, now that THOSE PEOPLE can have it.

It's so obviously a rationalization for being homophobic and bigoted, but those are such ugly words. How many of those Republican men are screwing around on their wives, anyway? (Ewwww, who would even think of having sex with a Republican?)(I guess that makes me a bigot in a sense, too.)

This reasoning has to be the lamest reasoning ever mentioned - and I'd say it actually backfires on those who believe in it since it really make them insecure about their 'family values'.

Yeah, I guess they try to find more PC lines to feed their audience *shakes head*

I guess that makes me a bigot in a sense, too.)

Considering the kind of morons we're talking about right now, am wondering if this kind of bigotry wouldn't be accepted - which is, of course, a twisted reasoning, but whatever lol It would almost make me feel sorry for any tolerant Republican over the US since those bigots make their side look so fucking ugly.

You know, I can understand people's reservations about gay couples adopting kids - I don't agree at all, but eventually I can understand, but the marriage issue? No, just no, I can't, sorry. And when they try to shove those stupid reasonings down our throats? Even less. Sure I'm a lesbian and people will say I'm biased, well I happen to also be a human being with a working brain, thank you very much.

LOL. Yes. It's such a delicate institution, it can crumble and vanish at any second now. It must be 'protected'.

almost make me feel sorry for any tolerant Republican over the US

Yeah, almost. Except that if they are moderate, then they should speak up, and not let the lunatic fringe speak for their party. They've been kissing the ass of far right for as long I can remember.

I happen to also be a human being with a working brain

See, that's your problem right there. In order to understand, you have to turn your brain off completely. And don't try thinking with your heart, either. They don't have those.

Bah. Sorry for the ranting. I'm just so fed up with the current administration. They scare me.

Goddamn, Bush is a fucktard. I was so relieved that the amendment had been defeated. But how could it really have been passed anyway? Taking away rights isn't what the Bill of Rights is about. *although this great country finds other ways to limit rights..*

Just the thought that they even tried to is scary enough - they should be reminded that taking away people's rights isn't really the best way to go forward.
