Oct. 4th, 2010 09:21 pmI sorta wrote this entry in my head on my way home, let's see if I can remember everything - and this incipit was also part of my "first draft", btw :-p
It was Back to School for me today \o/ I was excited all day long and couldn't wait to leave work so that I could rush to St Michel and have my first class of the (school) year :-) It went very well. Though I love that class (it's about translation studies), there's this other class I'll be taking next semester that I'm really curious (and excited) about, it's about American studies and media sociology and e-learning studies and media education and deals with ICT (which is awesome since it's kinda my job? \o/) and if that doesn't sound exciting, I don't know what does!
Except this: the paper I'll have to write for this class will be an analysis of a tv series! When I saw that, I had to read it twice, I was all "I'll have to write a paper on a tv series? Did I die and go to heaven?" So, ok, I know it'll be complex and I'll have to be all academic about it and stuff but seriously, tv, ok?! ♥
I'm not sure yet what exactly will be expected of us but I already have an idea of the show I'll pick and the topic I'll write about. And, no, I'm afraid it won't be "Supernatural, or the Joys of Gay Incest in Conservative America". Sorry to disappoint :-p Which reminds me, I need to email Mrs T(eacher) so that I can see whether my show/topic is doable.
And now I'm back home, comfortably sprawled on my couch writing this entry with Castle in the background and about to eat my dinner... which happens to be a slice of lemon cake from Starbucks? Yes. Not exactly nutritious and healthy as dinners go, some would say. And I'd agree... but not particularly care lol Twas my reward for a busy day :-)

Date: 2010-10-04 08:35 pm (UTC)Wow, awesome! Can you give us a clue about which show you are thinking about choosing? Or do you want to wait till you have communicated with Mrs T?

Er, definitely not! But if it is only once in a while, what does it matter? *g*

Date: 2010-10-09 08:29 pm (UTC)If can pick that show and topic, I'll have to think about what I want to analyse more precisely (and write a better outline! lol) but that's the gist of it :-)

Date: 2010-10-09 08:33 pm (UTC)Also, if you're curious, I'm copy/pasting what I told Tai in the above comment: If it's doable, I'd really like to write something about Community and how the show uses and plays around stereotypes instead of pretending it's not and how, when so many American shows tries so hard to be politically correct, Community doesn't give a damn and loves being politically uncorrect and loves mocking the whole thing.
If I can pick that combo of show and topic, I'll have to think about what I want to analyse more precisely (and write a better outline! lol) but that's the gist of it :-)

Date: 2010-10-09 08:35 pm (UTC)It has been a long time but I haven't commented in your own journal for a while either so we're both guilty here ;-)
It does sound like the kind of paper I'd enjoy writing. I'm hoping the class will be as interesting as I imagine it to be *fingers crossed*
