Work is deader than dead today - I knew it wouldn't be particularly busy (Friday after bank holiday? In July, even? Slim chance of that) but I thought a couple of my co-workers would be there, except it's past 10.00AM and I'm still the only one present so maybe they took the day off, after all. I wish I hadn't given mine back, btw, but there you go. At least it's all quiet.

Speaking of bank holiday, I had a lovely day. Very relaxing. We slept in, I lazed around in bed while Cookie watched the Défilé - our traditional military parade - and then we went our separate ways; she met with her mates to see HP7 and I spent the afternoon at my sister's. Emma is - so far, at least - a quiet baby and Chiara seems completely smitten with her, it's the cutest thing. We had waffles and Nutella for our little afternoon tea, I talked with my sister, played with my goddaughter, hold my niece, it was just very relaxing :-)

Back to the Défilé. Every year, an army is invited as "guest star". This year, it was the Overseas Territories, and the French Polynesia troop made quite an impression, especially when they performed the Haka. In case you'd like to see it, it's here. Oh, and someone posted the the fireworks under the Eiffel Tower in its entirety; the theme was musicals.

Fannish wise, we're caught up on both White Collar and True Blood. I really enjoyed both episodes, I'm always interested in getting inside Neal's conflicted mind and, obviously, it was interesting seeing him relate to and speak with Scott. It was also amusing seeing everyone try to compare the two of them but I liked the serious tone underneath the funny. Nice ep.. And then onto True Blood and the plotline I'd been hoping for ever since I read the novel-they-took-the-plotline-from - sorry, didn't care enough about the book to remember which one it is in the series. I just knew Alexander Skarsgard would nail it and he sure did. He's adorable! And it is odd saying this about Eric, of all people, but he is - in all his amnesiac glory. I'm not disappointed so far and can only hope they'll make it last. Please, don't let Tara, Lafayette and Jesus fix it too soon! *fingers crossed* [ETA: Damn. I apparently screwed up the cut for TB and I only just noticed, sorry!]

Apart from that, I've downloaded the premiere of Falling Skies and Alphas. I'm not expecting much of either of them, much less Alphas - an American show about superheroes? Chances are it won't be Misfits - but I never expect much of Summer shows except for them to pass the time, so. Besides, I have White Collar and True Blood for the good stuff. No, wait, there's another show I'd like to give a go that seemed cool, Franklin & Bash. Just need to find a download.

I hadn't seen the Haka yet! They look like they're going to jump Sarko at any minute. I approve >.>

I also love the display of force and manliness, and then they form a pretty butterfly! Aww! lol

The only one at work, wow! Are you doing stuff you always wanted to do? Sit in someone's chair? Hide people's stuff? Sing aloud? lol

Tell me what you think of those new shows! Not that it'd do much good... I'm still half a season of Community, TBBT and HIMYM behind....

Je l'avais raté aussi, heureusement, Internet est là pour les retardataires.

That was pretty sweet, wasn't it? lol

I wasn't the only one, after all, they just came pretty late. And I could have done all those things, now that you mention it! Such a missed opportunity!

Watched Alphas and it was predictable and cliched and just not that interesting. I'm not sure whether I want to try the second episode to see if it'll get a bit better or just forget about it.

I'm shocked that you were at work today! I thought you would've faire'd le pont. (Like my Franglais? lol)

I'm an episode behind on TB, but! I have finally started watching Misfits! Love love love it! I really didn't think I'd fall in love with a show so quickly. Must be true love.

9 times outta 10, I really hate when American remakes occur; can't we just watch the original?

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice Franglais, indeed lol Et non, je n'ai pas fait le pont. Très honnêtement, j'aurais du, j'ai plus l'impression d'avoir gacher une journée de farniente pour pas grande chose mais bon...

Misfits is brilliant, isn't it? I fell in love with it immediately and can't wait to get the second series. Even though some of the changes make me a bit worried about it. We'll see, I guess.

Yes, what's wrong with the original version of a show?? Especially when it's already in English, even if British-English. I'm afraid it always makes the American audience look a bit stupid somehow, you know? As if they couldn't appreciate - or even worse, understand - something coming from a foreign country. We do it all the time and we have no problem with it!

[identity profile] whitevanilla.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm only 4 episodes into the first series of Misfits, but can't wait to see what's to come.

You've said it spot on: Americans are stupid! I've seen programs that subtitle British shows. Seriously! Granted there are some accents that are uber tough, but these have been easy to understand. I think another reason is that if a program is in the original language/accent, Americans may not watch it. Ugh. lol

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
You're in for a treat, then!

I think it's sad (also annoying when it's your shows/films they keep adaptating and ruining) because watching a foreign production also means you're discovering a different way of living, a culture you might not know a lot about, traditions that are new to you, a different kind of humour and so on. I think it's a good way to learn that things are done differently in the world...

[identity profile] whitevanilla.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it'll come as a shock, but Americans are really ethnocentric as a group. So watching about other cultures can be quite difficult. ;)

Not all of us have a world mind set...but thank goodness for those of us who do!

It is a shock, yes! You should have put a warning first lol

but thank goodness for those of us who do!

Definitely! *clings*

I've got Falling Skies on my dvr, but aren't sure at all about Alphas. Are you not tempted by Suits? It seems to have got a lot of my flist talking.

You'll be home now I'm sure, after your boring day *g*

I watched Alphas and I far from impressed. I'm debating trying the second episode.

I am tempted by Suits, yes. I'll download the premiere right away, as a matter of fact, thanks for reminding me :-)
