Work is deader than dead today - I knew it wouldn't be particularly busy (Friday after bank holiday? In July, even? Slim chance of that) but I thought a couple of my co-workers would be there, except it's past 10.00AM and I'm still the only one present so maybe they took the day off, after all. I wish I hadn't given mine back, btw, but there you go. At least it's all quiet.

Speaking of bank holiday, I had a lovely day. Very relaxing. We slept in, I lazed around in bed while Cookie watched the Défilé - our traditional military parade - and then we went our separate ways; she met with her mates to see HP7 and I spent the afternoon at my sister's. Emma is - so far, at least - a quiet baby and Chiara seems completely smitten with her, it's the cutest thing. We had waffles and Nutella for our little afternoon tea, I talked with my sister, played with my goddaughter, hold my niece, it was just very relaxing :-)

Back to the Défilé. Every year, an army is invited as "guest star". This year, it was the Overseas Territories, and the French Polynesia troop made quite an impression, especially when they performed the Haka. In case you'd like to see it, it's here. Oh, and someone posted the the fireworks under the Eiffel Tower in its entirety; the theme was musicals.

Fannish wise, we're caught up on both White Collar and True Blood. I really enjoyed both episodes, White Collar first ). And then onto True Blood ) [ETA: Damn. I apparently screwed up the cut for TB and I only just noticed, sorry!]

Apart from that, I've downloaded the premiere of Falling Skies and Alphas. I'm not expecting much of either of them, much less Alphas - an American show about superheroes? Chances are it won't be Misfits - but I never expect much of Summer shows except for them to pass the time, so. Besides, I have White Collar and True Blood for the good stuff. No, wait, there's another show I'd like to give a go that seemed cool, Franklin & Bash. Just need to find a download.

As proof that everything comes to those who wait (and those who don't give up) Cookie and I finally saw Black Swan this afternoon; third time was the charm \o/

Yesterday was spent with the Untitled Posse at [livejournal.com profile] jedicathy's for her birthday and we had a blast. Cathy spoiled us rotten with the food she cooked - her cupcakes were to die for!! - and she'd prepared a little tv quiz that was a lot of fun. Afterwards we decided to rock on a bit and played Rock Band 3 (combo of guitar + mic + keyboard) before moving onto some Karaoke Hero (we were more familiar with Guitar Hero's playlist) when we proceeded to, hmmm, song isn't the right word- I know, massacre aforementioned playlist :-p We laughed so much we cried, it was pretty awesome.

And this is the part with no segues whatsoever. The bag meme has been resurrected and I love to play that one so here's my bag and what it contains )

And! Still unrelated. This morning [livejournal.com profile] jedicathy linked to this HBO teaser for the premiere of s4 True Blood aptly named "Waiting sucks" and there are no words for how much it thrilled me to see it! Spoilery comment re: spoilery teaser ) I can't wait to see what they'll do with the storyline *bounces*

Some shows are so adorable, aka how I watched White Collar 2x07 and kept giggling and cooing at the screen due to its level of adorableness. Incidentally, I have a question: "Prisoner's Dilemma", an ode to Peter and Neal's epic love story, Y/Y?

I have many favourite scenes/lines in the episode - Neal sulking when he's not getting his way or pleading to get his way is a joy to see - but Peter's "there's a reason why they made me work with a male CI" comment was quite inspirational. What does he mean "that's why"?

Does it mean that T-FBI-PTB don't always have a problem with inappropriate relationship between FBI agents and their CIs and they actually wanted Peter to complete his set of Pretty and Smart Brunettes with Big Blue Eyes? Because they knew he already had Elizabeth, but they wanted Peter to have one of each sex so they gave him Neal? Aww, how incredibly sweet of them! They do care about their own, at the FBI!

I can't believe there're only two episodes left to watch - how long will we have to wait for the rest, btw? Same thing with True Blood. I'm gonna miss them. And I still surprise myself whenever I think "miss" and "True Blood" in the same sentence but there you go. I will miss it. I'll miss Eric and Pamela and Lafayette and Jesus. Good thing it'll be Back-to-TV season soon and I'll get SPN back as well as Community - just to name two shows on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Which reminds me that I need to check the list and summaries of the new shows coming up this autumn. See if there's something that strikes my fancy. I already know of The Walking Dead but the trailer freaked the hell out of me (sharks, zombies and clowns - bane of my existence) so I don't know if I'll watch it. Or maybe with the FP. Because GD is always as scared as I am at stuff like that and seeing Sam mock us for being wusses and not be afraid is always amusing me. We'll see :-)

Oh, and this has nothing to do with anything but I'm in an Eames/Arthur kick as of today and on my quest to find fics to read I also found this entry, another fandom remake of Softer World. I usually enjoy those a lot but I'm especially smitten with that one.

A couple of days ago, we completed our True Blood s2 marathon and tonight we're catching up on s3... by tomorrow we'll be up-to-date and ready to download with the rest of the fans \o/ I'll be honest and acknowledge that Sookie sorta grew on me; I started right in the middle of can't-stand-her, then took a turn at ok-maybe-I-can-tolerate-her to end up at maybe-I-like-her. Will it ever be true love between Sookie and me? I want to say 'no' but one should never say 'never' so, who knows? I didn't change my mind about Bill, though. I still find him boring and useless. My love for Eric only grows stronger whenever I see him and I wish we saw more of Pam because I love her too. And I need a TB icon now, I think!

Between mainlining True Blood and (finally, the novel has been sitting on my shelves for ages) starting Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko, my weeks has been sponsored by Vampires R Us, it'd seem.

We also watched White Collar 2x02 and omg, I loved the episode so much! I rewound so many scenes, so many times, that the episode ran for much longer than the average forty-two minutes lol I think I'll watch it again tomorrow because I'll need my fix of adorable white collarness soon ♥ ♥

Ok now if you'll excuse me, I'll go and eat some more slices of watermelon. [livejournal.com profile] nicelyobsessed has helped herself with a new plate and I can smell it from accross the room. I need a second helping as well *off to gorge on watermelon*

Wtf - am I supposed to be working when everyone else who's also supposed to be working is watching/listening to the France - South Africa match?

Seriously, I'm taking a break too, it's only fair. I'm having a twitter-chat with Sam and GD and Z and T and having a good time :-) Of course, with everyone watching the match and tweeting about it and all those others who are not watching the match but are tweeting about it anyway, twitter is on the verge of collapsing! Well, it died a little earlier and I'm totally blaming football for that. ETA: Ha, it just died again!

Unrelated now but related to my previous post. I'm going to make an effort and try (emphasis on "try") to watch True Blood a second time. I'm not promising anything, though. I've watched an episode last night but Sookie grated on my nerves the whole time and Bill made me want to kick him in the head the whole time. Not exactly what I'd call a positive reaction *cough*

But for Eric and Godric and Pam's sake, I'll make a valiant effort and try again. And if I really can't stand Bill and Sookie, I'll have to content myself with fast-forwarding the episodes to the good scenes. Or, you know, just visit YT and watch those Best Of Character vids. It'll have to do. Wish me luck!

Todays was finals' day and I survived! Last time I sat an exam was around six years ago (not counting the IT certificate exam I took last year) so it was a bit weird - though a good kind of weird. Now I have one last paper to finish and I'm almost done for the year. I say 'almost' because I'm planning (hoping?) on submitting my thesis in September. We'll see how that goes. In any case, I have one more year of classes to go before I can get my masters so, you know, I'm not done yet.

Unrelated #1: apparently True Blood has redeeming qualities, after all? And they're called Eric Northman. That's the name that came out of many TB talks and I'll admit it made me curious but until yesterday I wasn't curious enough to want to investigate. Cue my stumbling upon a nice vid featuring the guy, which made me go "hmm, ok, that could be interesting". Followed a little hunt on YT where I found a whole series of vids aptly named The Best of Eric Northman, ie vids which put together all the scenes with Eric per episode. How sweet is that?

Now, though, I'm facing a dilemma: do I want to download TB to see Eric in all his vampirious glory and in-context? The answer should be obvious but the problem is a) Sookie and b) Bill. They annoyed and/or bored me to death when I gave the show a go last year. Is Eric worth the aggravation of those two? *needs to think some more*

Unrelated #2: I just started The Kiss Murder (third?) novel in the Hop-Çiki-Yaya series by Mehmet Murat Somer. Said novel tells the adventures of "Istanbul's foremost transvestite detective, nightclub owner and computer expert" and I'm already enjoying the story and the characters very much. I also enjoyed the following praise "Istanbul's Miss Marple - although he prefers leather catsuits to tweed skirts". If you're looking for a thriller that has a different flavour than your usual detective stories, you might want to give that novel a try :-)

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] luvmax1, Happy Birthday to you! I hope you'll find some time in your busy schedule to celebrate and have fun *hugs*

If there's a sleep virus spreading all around, I think I caught it. I've been ridiculously tired lately and I thought I was better today except I fell asleep while watching The Simpsons, meaning around 8.00 PM, and I woke up not that long ago. That was unexpected.. And bloody annoying too because now it's 10.40 PM and I don't feel tired anymore. Just headeachy. So okay I usually never go to sleep before midnight but still. Thank you so much, body!

I have reasons not to feel too grumpy, though - I just watched the Panic at the Disco Fantasy Festival interview and it filled me with glee. Oh, boys, you never fail to make me smile and want to clap my hands in delight ♥ ♥

Oh and spéciale dédicace to [livejournal.com profile] moimoietmoi; I watched the True Blood premiere and you'll be happy to know that you might not be the only one who likes it. That is, I enjoyed the premiere and am downloading the second episode to see whether the interest will keep or disappear. I do have mucho love for Sookie. We'll see how it goes.

Unrelated now but I've been thinking about my writing lately - or the lack thereof - and after talking with [livejournal.com profile] fiddleyoumust and telling her that as a victim of writer's block - which, admittedly, is a sort of permanent status for me - I had no WIPs waiting for me, I realised it wasn't strictly true.

I found in the drafts sections at gmail a series of WIPs. Six to be exact; two TS, two SPN, one SPNRPS and the most recent one, a PATD thingie. Which is nicely eclectic as far as fandoms go, imho. Some of those have real sentences and paragraphs, some don't - they just have the skeleton, ie just dialogues and nothing else.

So I guess I have been writing stuff. Just, very sporadically and with no real purpose but, yeah, there are words written over there.
