Bonne année !

Hello, flist. It's 10.00AM and I'm awake, for no reason that I can understand after going to bed past 4.00AM. I'm lazying around in bed, typing this with some Frank Sinatra on - perfect music for a lazy and cozy morning - because less than six hours of sleep isn't enough to be up and about, imho. So I'll be staying in bed for a little while longer and maybe treating myself to a breakfast in bed. Poor Cookie isn't there to share it with me as she had to run some errands. I feel for her.
Happy New Year, you guys! Hope you had a good NYE. Mine and Cookie's was low-key and just the kind that we enjoy. We had two friends over, we cooked our meal together, we exchanged our Christmas presents (I have two more John Irving books in my collection!) and then spent the evening/night eating and playing Guitar Hero and BuzzIt. Because we are wild, you see :-) They left around 3.00AM, we cleaned up a bit so that the place was clear when we'd get up - which does make you rejoice when you do! - before puttering a bit on-line, as you do.
Sad thing, though: because we were playing games all night, I couldn't watch the traditional NYE documentary on the Crazy Horse that they always air every year past midnight. Sad thing, like I said! No gorgeous and bendy naked dancers to welcome the new year ;-) I'll try to see if I can watch it on-line, mind.
Ok, I started this last night and I'll post it now, before I go and help myself to some leftover tiramisu made by Sandra #Yummy

loki_dip - The 2011 review meme
What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Go to Germany \o/
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think I meant to read more and, sadly, that did not happen. I'd like to make the same resolution... see what kind of results it brings this time around.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister!
Did anyone close to you die?
A cousin died, from the side of my family living in the south of France.
What countries did you visit?
England and Germany.
What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
I was drawing a blank last night but now that I'm (if barely) more awake, I'll say "self-discipline".
What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
31rd December : when Cookie moved in with me - 6th July : when my niece Emma was born - 23rd september : when I defended my thesis and passed. All good and happy dates :-)
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my MA! I'm still so proud that I have a Masters now *pats self*
What was your biggest failure?
Still haven't managed to speak Italian fluently! And the lack of reading.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Apart from your regular bronchitis and whooping cough, nope, for which I'm grateful.
What was the best thing you bought?
I think it's a draw between the train tickets to the UK and Germany and the tickets to the gigs I went to.
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My parents.
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Drawing a blank here as well.
Where did most of your money go?
Flat stuff.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Seeing Panic! at the Disco for the first time in may omg! And then going to Germany for the first time to see Panic! at the Disco live for the second time! And with the FP, at that! ♥ ♥
What song will always remind you of 2011?
Let's say "Let's Kill Tonight"
Compared to this time last year (2010), are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Happier...
ii. Thinner or fatter? A bit thinner. Not that you'd know right this minute after everything I ate the past two weeks lol
iii. Richer or poorer? Poorer; I'll miss the (albeit small) bonus we usually got around Christmas at work and that we saw the last of in 2010 - even thought we didn't know at the time.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Even though I've been to two different countries, I wish I'd done more travelling - because I just love going abroad, even when it's just for a couple of days, so I always wish I'd more of that, even though I'm truly happy with that I've done already :-) Reading. Being more disciplined.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating. Definitely.
Howwill did you spend Christmas?
With my family. And Cookie for the first time!
What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2011?
Drawing a blank. Oh, no wait, maybe write "bisous" (ie, love or xxx) by accident at the end of a professional mail to a (male) co-worker I barely knew.
Did you fall in love in 2011?
I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would have something to say about that!
How many one-night stands?
Didn't I just mention my girlfriend?
Favourite TV show(s)?
Supernatural. White Collar. Doctor Who. The Fades. Suits. American Horror Show.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Changing. I've worn more skirts and dresses than ever before.
What kept you sane?
My family. My friends.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is such a strong word, so far I've only used it once in my whole life... So no I don't hate anyone that I didn't hate this time last year. I might like some people less than I did last year, though. Such is life.
What was the best book you read in 2011?
The World According to Garp by John Irving. Followed closely by A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Drawing a blank. Though I did discover Florence and the Machine and I've quite enjoyed it. I'm going to her Parisian gig with the FP in march (I think it's march).
What did you want and get?
My Masters. And good grades to go with it. For everyone to be healthy.
What did you want and not get?
A better salary, I guess, because as much as I enjoy my job, said salary is a bit of joke for what I actually do, really. I could do worse, though, so there is that. More self-discipline (yes, I sound like a broken record)
What was your favourite film of this year?
Well, I've seen X-Men: First Class nine time so I'd say this was my favourite film of 2011 ;-)
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to work then celebrated it with my family. I turned 32.
What three things would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More discipline? lol I don't know, honestly. My family has been well despite my parents' work problems, my relationship with my girlfriend has been a joy, I didn't have money problems (*knocks wood*), I had fun at my job (even though the past month I've felt a bit unmotivated), I did very good at school. I travelled. I went to gigs I really, really wanted to go to...
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
James McAvoy.
Who did you miss?
No-one.
What is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011?
That I can do things I thought were impossible if I really work at it. Yes, I'm referring to my MA (yes, sounding like a broken record again, sorry!) I honestly thought I'd not succeed but I never let myself give up and I managed to juggle my full-time work and my classes and my social life and I did research and wrote my papers and wrote my thesis and then it all worked out! Even better than I could have hoped for. I did mention I was really proud of that one, right?
Well. That was a happy and satisfying review. Let's hope the one I do in 2012 is of the same vein :-)
Hmm. Listening to Sinatra makes me crave some White Collar. Quick, to the kitchen, prepare everything then eat while I watch Peter and Neal's antics :-)

Date: 2012-01-01 05:28 pm (UTC)Aww... your cousin shares a bday with my baby bro. Sadly you're in France but when she's older tell her that in England 6th July is national kissing day.
Yes, I'm referring to my MA (yes, sounding like a broken record again, sorry!)
You deserve it! Plus, it makes me feel slightly less bad for the number of times I said to my family in December - 'so you know I got a Distinction in my MSc? You know I was the *only* Distinction in my MSc?'. You put in all that effort and succeed you get bragging rights. :)
I might like some people less than I did last year, though.
*squishes* C'est la vie. Even if it sucks. Or they suck. (Long as it's not me, but I like to think not!)

Date: 2012-01-03 08:26 pm (UTC)National kissing day? lol I'll be sure to tell my niece when she's older :-)
You deserve it!
Thank you! And you totally deserved bragging rights as well. GO US!
(Long as it's not me, but I like to think not!)
You don't need to just "think" it's not you, you can be absolutely 100% sure of it! Definitely not you *hugs*
