I actually now download my shows *legally* from iTunes/Amazon. I'm American so I have that luxury. I skipped some questions since they seemed to pertain to illegal downloading activity.
Actually, now that I think about it, I do do some illegal downloading- someone does a Kurt/Blaine edit for Glee, which I like since I am not really interested in the whole show.
ANd the other downloading site I use is Yousendit. I still have an account there.
This is why I always try to include an "other" option because I know I always forget some. See, I didn't even think of the the Itunes/Amazon download option! I guess many people get their hands on the shows like that, yes.
Just curious: In your last couple of questions, why did you decide to focus on the feelings of the creator about illegal downloads rather than those of the producers/distributors, given that it is the latter that IPR law is designed to protect rather than the former?
I'll be honest I didn't even think of the producers/distributors. I'd re-watched the video of Neil Gaiman talking about how he doesn't mind people downloading his books because he found out that people had discovered his work thanks to those illegal download, so when I added the question I had the "creator" of the primary souce in mind.
But you're right, I could have (should have?) added the producers/distributors...
It kind of depends on whether you're more interested in the effect of the illegal downloads on the profits of the producers/distributors or the feelings of the creators.
From my POV I can see why the money men would be anti-downloads because they see it as losing themselves advertising revenue and DVD sales (though if they'd give us a way to pay to see shows when they air in their home country we wouldn't need to download them in the fist pace) but I have more difficulty in understanding why the creator/writer would be concerned.
This differs from the situation with fanfic where I can't understand why the producers/distributors would be concerned as you need to see the source material before you can write about it, but I can understand that certain writers/creators might be unhappy at losing control over their creations.
Ca me met "Désolé, vous n'êtes pas autorisé à voir ce sondage" alors que les résultats sont ouverts à tous, donc je pense que ça bugge. Est-ce que tu vois mes résultats ?
In your second to last question, I answered yes, because I do understand (or think I understand *g*) why a creator would be against illegal downloading - but I don't think that they understand the damage they do to themselves and their work.
Thanks for answering the poll, and thanks for the encouragements.
I don't think that they understand the damage they do to themselves and their work.
Same thing here!
Say, did you get a message telling you you weren't allowed to see the results of the poll? Because I made it so everyone could see the results so I don't know why that's happening.
I answered the survey, but got the 'not permitted to see the results' message when I hit send, so I'm not sure they were recorded. Can you see my answers? If not, yell and I'll fill it in again. Good luck with the work!
You must have filled the poll just before I edited my entry, sorry! Yes, there's a problem with the poll, it doesn't allow anyone to show the results, including me.
I've closed it for the time being. And thanks for thinking about filling it again :-)
I can't access the poll so technically it's not closed for real but you shouldn't try to fill it because you'll get the same answer as the others, I'm afraid, ie "you're not allowed to see the poll results" and your answers won't be really submitted. Which is why there's 0 answer when, in fact, at least four people participated.
