castalieI wondered when was the last time I updated and turns out it hasn't been that long. Or I thought it had been much longer. Life has been the same except for Monday night when I took the decision to just stop stressing over my thesis and decided that I'd defend next May. I want to do things Right and I need to have more time to achieve that so I put a stop to the whole thing. I'm giving myself a break for now and I'll go back to it in a couple of weeks. I already have written more than seventy pages so it's not as if I were starting from scratch... I'm afraid it also means you haven't heard the last of me thesis-wise. I do apologise in advance ;-)
All of a sudden I have all this free time - I don't need to write my thesis every day after work anymore! I don't need to write my thesis all day on weekends either! - and guess what? It's glorious!
I'd taken today off early september to work on aforementioned thesis and I decided to keep it so I've been home all day, ie I haven't set foot outside. Since I'm now free I thought having a whole day of No Obligation would be the way to go ♥ I don't think I need to tell you how much I've been enjoying it :-)
Because I feel quite lazy, I'm just going for a little meme for this entry, ie the House meme (as in "home" not "tv show") that is going around. It's one of those memes that never fails to delight the nosy part of me, but in order to feel less guilty about playing "voyeur" with your own entries, I'm playing as well.
More than you ever wanted to know about my and Cookie's home.
1. What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now?
Tahiti shower gel and some The Bodyshop products: strawberry and raspberry.
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
As a matter of fact, I do. Or half a watermelon since Cookie cut half of it this morning to take with her to work for lunch.
3. Is there anything moldy in your refrigerator?
No.Not this week, at least
4. What would you change about your living room?
The wallpaper. We've been planning on redecorating the whole flat and we're going to say goodbye to the wallpapers and welcome paint. We just need to find the time and the motivation to do it.
5. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
We don't have a dishwasher.
6. Do you have a can of mushrooms in your pantry?
Nope. We had fresh mushrooms in our fridge till a couple of days ago, though.
7. White or wheat/brown bread?
Brown bread, I guess. Except when we buy a baguette, obviously.
8. What is on top of your refrigerator?
Part of the wall cabinet.
9. What color is your sofa?
Cream
10. What color or design is on your shower curtain?
White with blue and brown stripes
11. How many plants are in your home?
Zero
12. How many candles are in your home?
Six, I think.
13. Is your bed made right now?
I'm typing this in bed so, no, it's not made.
14. If you have a coffee pot, what color is it?
We have a coffee/hot beverage maker? It's red.
15. Electric or standard can opener?
Standard.
16. Comet or Soft Scrub?
I have no idea what those are and just feel too lazy to look it up right this second so I'll pass.
17. Is your closet organized?
Yes.
18. What color is the flashlight that you use the most?
Should I use a flashlight on a regular basis?
19. What kinds of things are in your junk drawer?
Matches, candles, tape, battery, old mobiles, cards, flashlights (ok, I do own a couple! I just never use them), a measuring tape, Wii mics, chargers, power plugs, adaptors, keys, sunglasses, 3D glasses, iron-on adhesive hem etc. etc.
20. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
Glass. Always.
21. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
Nope.
22. If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
We don't. But we have cellars in the building and ours is cluttered, indeed.
23. Curtains or blinds?
Shutters. And curtains.
24. How many pillows do you sleep with?
There are four on the beds, doesn't mean we sleep with them all, though.
25. Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
No.
26. How many ceiling fans are in your home?
None. It's not something people usually have in their homes around here.
27. How often do you vacuum?
We try to vacuum once a week. We often fail.
28. What color is your toothbrush?
Light green.
29. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
Yes. Except it's not on the "front porch" since we live in a flat, sorry to disappoint.
30. What is in your oven right now?
Nothing. There was a quiche yesterday.
31. Is your microwave clean or dirty?
Clean. All the cleaner that it's been dead for a couple of weeks now, so we haven't used it ever since.

Folded chairs.
33. Chore you hate doing the most?
Cleaning the windows. I hate it.
34. What retro items are in your home?
Dunno... maybe the napkin dispenser we got sometime ago?
35. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
Yes, it serves as a study room and there's a folded couch for when it's used as a spare room.
36. If you have a yard, who mows it?
I'm not sure how to translate this... the building caretaker?
37. Is there anything on your kitchen floor right now?
Jack's food and water.
38. How many mirrors are in your home?
Two, bathroom and bedroom.
39. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home?
No. Unless you count the change that sometimes falls from our pockets and that we put away here and there.

Some are salmon, blue (light and darker), white and blue. Depends on the room.
41. Which rooms in your house have wallpaper?
Living room, bedroom and spare room. Hopefully not for much longer!
42. Do you have a peephole in your front door?
Yes. How would I know who's behind it otherwise? I could never understand people in American tv shows who always open the door to see who's there. What if it's someone you don't want to see? Someone you don't know? Boggles the mind.
43. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
No.
44. What does your home smell like right now?
Fresh laundry, I just took a load out of the washing machine.
45. Favorite candle scent?
I don't know... I can tell you I'm not fond of those vanilla or chocolate candle scents but apart from that, I'm game for most of them.
46. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?
Extra fins, ie small pickles.
47. Who are in the pictures you displayed?
My parents, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, godfather, aunt, cousins, Cookie, Cookie's mother, Cookie's brother, Cookie's cousin and nephew, my best friends. I have lots of pictures; on the door and above my desk. Wait, there's also the fannish pictures, SPN, White Collar, XMFC, PATD. And those are just mine.
48. What color is your favorite bible?
I was going to say "this is so an American meme" but I realised I not only have one Bible but more than one, even. I guess my favourite is the very old Italian Bible (well, Bible in Italian) that my father gave me many years ago.
49. Do you have plenty of cabinet space in your kitchen?
Funny you'd ask because as it turns out we were seriously missing some cabinet space until recently, when we found an old kitchen cabinet in my parents' garage which they were kind enough to give us. Now we're ok! It'll be painted red asap.Or one day. We also had a lot fun putting things away and we amused ourselves by counting our Starbucks mugs. Turns out we have a bit more than we thought? I mean, we knew we had quite a lot of them but when we put them all together.. that was a lot.

No. We can't get on the roof, so.

No.

One.

One. Which is so rarely used it almost makes me sad to think about it. But it's old, anyway, so.

I don't know... the living room is more cozy than, say, modern. Wooden floor, wood furniture. Once the kitchen is renovated, it should look like a diner, though. Now it just looks... old.

Solid.

No. Which is not good, come to think of it.
58. In case of fire, what are the items you would grab if you only could make one quick trip?
My handbag, my laptop... oh, and the cat, I guess ;-)

Enough that I know how to put the lights back on when electricity goes out.
60. What temperature in your home is most comfortable to you?
I have no idea... not too warm, that's for sure. I'm wearing a hoodie and socks right now and I'm just fine. I mean, with pants too, I'm not just wearing a hoodie and socks. Not that there would be anything wrong with that kind of attire, mind!

Date: 2012-09-12 05:34 pm (UTC)FYI, Comet and Soft Scrub are two cleaning products. Comet is generally powdery while Soft Scrub is liquid. Out of the two, I'd go with Soft Scrub, but since I don't use either at home, I don't rightly care. lol
