To infinity and beyond!
Oct. 12th, 2012 11:48 pmSo you know how I will sometimes tell you all about the tomato soup I had for lunch? Well, this time I come bearing a slightly more interesting tale as I've attended a special event last night, which turned out to be even more special than I thought.
Cookie, a couple of friends and I had purchased tickets to the Jules Verne Festival's film score music concert conducted by David Newman. What I hadn't realised was that the concert was part of the festival's closing ceremony, meaning that the guests of honour were there, meaning that Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping were there, which, yeah, was great but I have to say that's not what blew my mind because turns out BUZZ ALDRIN WAS ONE OF THE GUESTS! Yes, Buzz Walked-On-The Moon Aldrin was there. Dude, I think my heart skipped a bit when I realised. I saw Buzz Aldrin!! Hee, what a surprise! ♥
The concert itself was fantastic, I love those live score music concerts; this time there was footage shown on a screen as well as - that was the best part - moments when an actual scene would play and the orchestra played the background music that went with it, as if they were in a studio syncing music to picture. Awesome! They played mostly film classics but we also got the score from Ice Age and LOST, which was fun. Not so much fun was when they played Jaws, which I DID NOT LIKE because that film traumatised me when I was a kid - I know I'm not the only one - and which is the reason why I'm dead afraid of big whites and why I never go far when swimming in the sea... which I'm a bit afraid of, anyway. Much better was when they played Star Wars (original trilogy), which they kept for the encore. Of course, they did ;-)
Oh, and for the steampunk lovers out there, this year edition of the festival hosted a Steampunk Celebration with a bunch of people in gorgeous costumes. They were all so pretty and interesting, I loved it! Those vaporistes all looked dashing.
To make a long story short: a wonderful evening was had :-)
Tonight I went to an Edward Hopper exhibit held in Paris, so that was another lovely way to spend my time. Less lovely is the fact that I have to work tomorrow but such is life, you win some, you lose some ;-)
