(no subject)

I started this entry on Friday, I'm thinking I should finish it and post it now, or else I never will.

I couldn't go to sleep last night on Thursday night so I was awake around 2.00AM when the news about Hannibal's renewal spread all over teh internets. The excitement that followed didn't help me fall asleep any quicker but at least it made me happier ♥ ♥

The excitement didn't die down in the morning when I caught a bit of Bryan Fuller's live tweeting the episode. I usually skim through those tweets because I don't want to be spoiled but my eyes were caught by his comment about how for the first time since they started shooting the show, Hugh Dancy had to leave the set to collect himself during one of the Death Tableau. It really piqued my curiosity, I just couldn't wait to watch the episode! Though, hey, Bryan Fuller, no breaking Hugh Dancy, you hear? #PoorBaby

The episode did not disappoint. I know I sound like a broken record but damn if that show isn't getting better with each new episode! "Buffet Froid" was brilliant; heartbreaking and chilling and just brilliant all around ♥

There's a lot I could say about it (so many things happened omg!) but could we take a second to talk about the Ladder Scene? You know, the scene that some people who aren't even watching the show have heard of, the scene that is making some of them think that maybe they're missing out. That one ;)

I have to wonder whether Bryan Fuller intended the scene to turn sexual when it was written ("you'll see, all the slashers in the land are going to lap it up!") or if it's just Hugh Dancy, helped with Mikkelsen, that made it look that way ("We can't help it, when we're in a scene together it always looks like we're about to fuck! Now Hugh can't even lean against a ladder without it looking super sexual!"). Or, you know, if it's just us slashers Seeing Things All the Time ("Look, Will and Hannibal are both breathing in the same room, they're so in love!").

I know that to some viewers, it looked like Will was unconsciously taking a step back from Hannibal, ie that he was trying to protect himself, to put some distance between them. I, on the other hand (and maybe we slashers are just conditioned to read scenes differently) couldn't help but read the scene as pretty sensual because Will just looks like he's putting himself on display.

Wait, come to think of it, this might be a valid interpretation (slashy thoughts put aside, I mean); Will is offering all of himself in that scene, all his symptoms but more than that all his fears about his own mental health (or the lack thereof). He's open to Hannibal and, indeed, this ends up with him is letting Hannibal decide, for him, what the next course of action will be, in this case to go see a neurosurgeon - whereas, before, Will let Hannibal decide that looking for a physical reason to his problems wasn't the solution. Not only that but Hannibal is the one who chooses who will see Will. Poor Will is giving up control over his own sanity/health to someone who is, sadly, not trustworthy.

Incidentally, since the trust issue was strong in that episode, whenever Will and Hannibal talked about trust and betrayal when talking about the case, I felt like screaming to Will "TRY TO EMPATH THAT EXCHANGE, DUDE, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED! Also, even MORE broken that before, admittedly." Poor Will.

But, anyway! Because a slashy interpretation of a scene is always fun; let's say that Will did put himself on display during the Ladder Scene and let himself be vulnerable to Hannibal, telling him that he was Hannibal's to do with as Hannibal wished, not just physically and mentally but also sexually and, indeed, if this was fanfic, Hannibal would take him on his offer and just take him against that ladder. And take him hard ;)

There, I managed to write a tiny bit of meta about the scene, after all :p And my conclusion would be: if people ever doubted that Will was a submissive, I feel like their doubts have now been put to rest. Whatever the interpretation, that Ladder Scene, it was a gorgeous display of submission right there, wasn't it? ;) I wonder how many fic it will give birth to!

Unrelated now, I was having a DW Night last night (finally watched the last three episodes of s7 then found out they were broadcasting the second half of it on tv, so tuned in) when I saw the news about Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who after the Chrismas special. I knew it was bound to happen but I'm not ready to let Eleven go yet, he's my favourite Doctor! Being a fan isn't easy, you guys!

I do not know who these people are that you are mentioning! I am definitely not one of them!

It's good that we're all clear on who this isn't about!

Insomnia totally sucks, but if it leads to being awake when good news break it's hard to really resent it :-)
