Gorgeous weekend, gorgeous start of the week, the kind of weather that is good for the soul :) As I was saying over at Twitter, people should not only get snow days but sun days as well and be allowed to play hooky when it's sunny and warm outside. Although it is lovely heading to work with the sun shining over your head instead of feeling like crawling back to bed because it's grey and damp.

I'm in such a good mood today ♥ I decided to dedicate this entry to one thing that is making me very happy at the moment, namely The Musketeers. Yes, I'm there, you guys.

I watched "A Rebellious Woman" last night and I thought it was a lovely reward for a long and busy day. I immensely enjoyed the episode, it was fast paced and had great moments for many members of the cast. I was quite enamoured with Ninon de Larroque (and was very proud of myself when I recognised her from that scene at the pub with Charles and Raven at the beginning of XMFC) and felt like cheering on her and her pupils throughout the whole episode. Athos had some great moments, especially at the trial when he realises Milady is there. That was some nice angsty rage, right there! And I love the awkward though still sexy flirtation with Ninon.

Speaking of, I just loved the scene with Porthos, Aramis and d'Artagnan with Porthos being so incredibly clueless and Aramis' "one day we'll have a chat and I'll teach you about women"... they were all so amused ♥

On the subject of Aramis, I'll steal [livejournal.com profile] writerlibrarian's commentary and say he kinda does steal the scenes he's in. He's such a delight :) Also, I love it when they delve a bit more into his faith. The religious aspect of his character is something I always enjoyed so I'm glad whenever we're being reminded that he is a man of faith (incidentally, picturing this version of Aramis as the future abbé d'Herblay never fails to amuse me).

I saw an entry written by a fan who was clearly disappointed by this adaptation and who wished the characters were more like the ones we find in the novel (she found them too likeable) but I admit I love this characterisation. I also enjoy the fact that, as [livejournal.com profile] ghyste's said, (I'm stealing everyone's thoughts today!) as fun as The Musketeers can be, it's still a more meaty show than we could have expected beforehand. I mean, it's not, idk, True Detective or Rectify or any of those shows filled with gravitas but still there is meat in it ;)

Another reason why I find it so enjoyable is that it hits one of my #1 bulletproof kinks, namely characters being obviously fond of each other. I'm not just talking about fantastic chemistry which, yeah, the chemistry, it is strong in that one, but fondness as such: the way the characters interact with each other, the way they look at each other, smile at each other, touch each other, they way they generally enjoy the other's compagny...

Athos is obviously a very reserved and angsty man but it is clear he's close to the others and we know how much he relies on his friendship with them (even if he wishes he didn't, I'm sure), they're all fond of d'Artagnan, and just fond and protective of one another in general, they worry all the time, but to me the relationship that especially shines is Aramis and Porthos'. Omg those two... I could look at them looking and smiling at and laughing with each other FOR HOURS ON END! Yes, gimme Aramis and Porthos scenes together and I'll be a happy fan forever. And ever.
