It's all so very Gay - whee!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeek Canal+ is going to air The L Word *dies* You can always trust C+, man, always! Boy, PinkTV must be seething. A gay network and they lost the rights to broadcast The L Word? Must be tough!

[sing song] I'm going to see my lesbian show, I'm going to see my lesbian show [/sing song]

Besides Canal+ equals original version. Well, if they still do that? Apart from Cold Case, The Simpsons and Excel Saga, I don't watch Canal+ anymore, so I don't even remember if they still air their series in English as well - movies yes, but tv series?

Speaking of which, Angels in America premieres soon. It seems that that miniseries received lots of awards? How come I never heard about it? *blink*

AND they're doing another Gay and Lesbian Night on the 20th. Seems logical - they're doing it in parallel with the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival held in Paris that will start on the 19th. Hmm, would be nice to go btw. Need to check that out.

Is that any good? It's shown here and I've never got round to watching it, mainly because of when it's on, ie James' tv time after work when I have to fight him for the control.

Re reading I'm unsure if you've seen the show or not. Or if you get it off one of your contacts *g*

But yay for lots of lesbian and gay stuff going on!

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea how good it is. Well, no, I mean, I heard good stuff about it, I've had some friends on the flist telling me I really should try it --which is sometimes frustrating when you're dependent on your own networks and have to wait until they get with the program and decide to fucking air the show lol-- but I don't know whether I'll like it myself. I'm dying to see it though, so hopefully, it'll be good and I won't be disappointed *g*

That's what is cool with Paris actually, there're lots of gay related events. I'd say it's because the mayor is gay himself, but I think it's just because it's Paris *g*

What is the L Word? I mean, beside being about lesbians that is. What's the story? It's a good thing that Canal+ is airing something different, because it's losing its specificality (it's a word... isn't it?). But I hear people complaining about the movies they show - it's not their fault the movie production isn't that great! I wish they showed the tv series in English as well - they used to (remember Seinfeld? Oh, for some reason I was thinking about that episode that's told backward - how I loved it!)

Hum, anyway... what is the L Word?

also, I just edited my post with a comic - it's a funny one, I like it lol

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
The L Word : is the intimate story about the lives and loves of a group of lesbian friends living in Los Angeles. Having just graduated from the University of Chicago, Jenny (Mia Kirshner) moves out to L.A. to be with her boyfriend Tim (Eric Mabius) and begin her professional writing career. Normally on top of things, her life is turned upside down when she attends a party hosted by Tim's neighbors, Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Hollomon), a lesbian couple who are looking to take the step into parenthood after seven years of dating. A brief encounter at the party suddenly has Jenny thrust into a lesbian community and a whole new world.

People kept telling me I should try it and everything, and I heard some good stuff about it so I can't wait *g*

And between Cold Case, Angels in America, The L Word, and the newest season of The Shield coming in JanuaryI still consider C+ as one of the best tv series owners out there. As for movies, like you said it's not their fault movie production isn't that great.

And if that's Megatokyo 19, I already saw and commented *g*

[identity profile] babycakesin.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, sorry about that - I hadn't had the comment notice *glares at yahoomail*

Anyway - C+ would be perfect if they had Lost as well... I'm just saying... But The L Word sounds good - when is it going to start, again? lol

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh it would be so very perfect if C+ had Lost. M6 would have been good too, but I think we can trust C+ even more with their series and stuff.

And technically The L Word should start in January, but we'll have the pilot on Saturday for the Gay and Lesbian Night. Neat, huh? *g*

Howdy. Angels in America, the miniseries, was based on the Broadway play from the '80s. It is absolutely fantastics, and available for rent at most Blockbusters. (Even Parisian ones. ~_^) Love, Roo

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I knew about the play, but I never heard they'd made a mini-series out of it. Considering said mini-series received all kind of awards and stuff, I thought I'd have heard about it quite a lot *g*

Aren't her icon and layout just the sexiest, huh? I love them too *eg*

[identity profile] moonlit-page.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thanks. ^_^

[identity profile] alinewrites.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
They did air 24 in English and still do I think (I resigned Canal+ 3 weeks ago. Too expensive. With one month of Canalplus i can have half a Meloni's shirt. My choice's made). :D

I think that Pink TV didn't have the cash to buy it. Anyway from what I read the main asset of Pink TV is porn and they confessed they had a lot of trouble finding *good* Lesbian Porn -actually finding Lesbian porn at all.

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Some people don't pay for Canal+, that kinda helps. Not that we know about that kind of illegal and so immorally wrong practice in this household, but I heard about stuff like that.

I can see their point for the lesbian porn, but they could have tried to focus on lesbian non-porn, and just, you know, lesbian series or movies - it does exist and it can be sexy already. If they can't get the porn, at least they should try to focus on getting other stuff - get what you can. I mean, seriously QAF US v Wonder Woman? Is ridiculous to me. But hey, it's just the beginning and they need to grow up and yeah, get more money, but if they can't ever get the good stuff, they'll have to really work harder to achieve that.

The Angels miniseries is fantastic. The screenplay was adapted by Kushner himself, and it stars, among others, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino and Emma Thompson. And, though I don't know the actors' names, Prior and Louis are particularly good as well. It won about a bazillion Emmys, but you might not have heard about it as it was on HBO, and plenty of people don't get HBO. I didn't until very recently (and not at school. *pout*). The DVD's were just released a couple weeks ago, so Angels fever might be picking up again as more people are able to see it. It's really a fantastic series (though I've only seen Millenium, not Perestroika, stupid schedule), though really not the same as seeing it live on stage. [/theatre eletism]

Emma Thompson is, as always, brilliant in all her roles (most of the double casting in the play is carried through here). There's some really fantastic stylistic things going on as well, but I'm usually the only one who notices these things, as I'm a whore for stylism. But yeah, definately worth a look. ;)

What a great and enthusiastic review that was, thanks *g* And seeing how much you like théatre, I can imagine how you'd think it can't be the same thing as seeing it live on stage anyway. Actually, the fact that you liked the series so much even though it was an adaptation is a good point for the TV version *g*

It's mostly that some of my favorite lines were cut out. It's actually quite a bit shorter than the full play (a mere 6 hours. Heh). But I think scene for scene, it's all there. I just miss the line in the park about the guy living with his parents... Oh, never mind. :)

I just adored my school's production so much, but ours was much funnier. My theatre department seems to have a thing with making things funny. It was odd watching the miniseries after seeing our show, and going, "Oh, that's not a joke?" We like to go for the laughs, especially in serious pieces. But it's just a different experience, I guess. The miniseries is still outstanding. So... yeah. Go watch it!

In fact, there was a vid somewhere to a Seal song that was really good, and was really good before I'd even seen it. I'll have to find you the link. *searches*

Highly recommended. Extremely well done, and gives you a little sneak peek at the HBO version. Have fun!

Ack! I do not have Canal+ and that sucks because damn, I love the L word! It's a great show, but mostly, it has Katherine Moening in it and what I'd give to be able to watch her in action properly... I mean, I did download about 7 eps from the series, but I had to watch them in low quality on my computer, ugh. And I don't want to get Canal+ just for that, cuz I couldn't afford it... *whines*

But hey, at least that means there's a chance they'll sell it on DVD in France, right?

[identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com 2004-11-16 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't anyone in France get illegal Canal+ anymore? lol There're alternatives not to pay for something expensive, you know? Though you usually have to have a good buddy who knows how those things work, granted.

And that's what I hope think. With some luck, we'll get the DVDs in France. I'm hoping for the same thing with Lost.
