Slán agat, Ireland
Aug. 20th, 2014 01:06 pmAnd another disappearing act! Though bear with me because I had yet another good reason! So what, are you going to tell me, you went away again? Why, yes, I did! As it happens, I spent five days in Ireland with Cookie last week - we came back on Monday :) For her 40th birthday she had many awesome presents, including this trip to Ireland.
We stayed in Dublin but booked two tours away from the city, on our first tour we crossed the island to go see the Cliffs of Moher (amazing!) and visit Galway and on our second tour we spent the day in Wicklow and Glendalough (so gorgeous!). Twas amazing. Also amazing was the weather. Sun! Blue, blue sky! Very little rain, like, it basically didn't rain at all while we were there? It's my second time in this gorgeous country and it's the second time I have that kind of weather; whenever someone talks about Ireland and how it's damp and grey I feel like we haven't been staying in the same country ;) Anyway, we were very lucky with the weather, it only made the experience so much better. I'd already felt in love with Ireland on my first stay here in 2009 and I was delighted to see Cookie fall in love with it as well. She didn't want to leave :)
We did plenty of the touristy things a tourist can think of doing in a couple of days, including Trinity College and the Book of Kells exhibit + old library - there's no way I could go to Dublin and not go there. Absolutely no way. That Long Room, you guys, that Long Room... bookgasm. Librarygasm. So many feelings. We strolled around Temple Bar, managed to find free seats inside the Temple Bar on Saturday night and had a pint of Guinness there while singing with the other patrons. Twas absolutely awesome! We went to the National Museum of Ireland, visited both St Patrick Cathedral and Christ Church (had tea in the crypt, as it happens), went to the Garden of Remembrance etc. etc. We had Irish stew and Irish breakfast in pubs, ate delicious scones and found one of the most delicious apple pies ever... I even got to spend an evening with one of my cousins from Italy who happened to be in Dublin at the same time as we were! To make a long story short, we had a jolly time :)
As usual, I'll share some pictures with you guys, as I know some of you enjoy them - just as I enjoy it whenever you post your own pictures :)
