Alexander, anyone?

Today was another busy-busy day. There was work but there was also mucho fun afterward so it definitely balanced the thing out nicely *g* Speaking of work, I don't think there're lots of jobs where you can have the following convo :
Me: Okay, did someone see the head of my dragon?
The Sis: I think I saw it near the panda's body.
Me: *turns* Oh yeah, thanks. Hey, I just found the beard of your Santa.
The Sis: Cool, he had it all for the beard - talk about a tragedy.
Seriously, I wish I had a digital camera so I could take a picture of our basement and show you all the costumes we keep in there - it's quite impressive, and it's also quite... different. Different but fun *g*
Now on something different too. I read some reviews about Alexander on my flist and I was sorta relieved to hear that Teh Gay was still there after all - so maybe I won't want to kill someone when the movie will finally be released here? I can only hope. I don't really know what to think about that movie to be honest. I mean, Alexander the Great is one of my 'heroes' and I'm so afraid the movie is going to be, you know, ridiculous. I was already traumatised during the trailer with the Wigs of Doom - I thought it wasn't starting well lol [ETA: Okay so
absinthfire tells me it's their real hair? Wow *blink*]
But seriously, I'm curious about it - I know you can't usually expect History to be respected when Hollywood decides to make that kind of movie but maybe it'll be good anyway? No seriously, why do we have to wait until January, 5th to get the damn movie over here? I need to know now *pout*
And still on the subject - I was cruising amazon.uk the other day and found a book that made me laugh : Alexander the Great: The Man Who Brought the World to Its Knees by Michael Alvear. The summary cracked me up : He conquered the world and united it with a common language; his military tactics are still studied; he is the most heroic warrior in history. But more importantly he was hot, his boyfriends were hotter, he had a media savvy PR team and he could throw hissy fits that would shock Naomi Campbell. A hilarious take on the life of the biggest drama queen in history. Catchy little thing, whaddaya think? lol
ETA: Oh no *gasp* I'm watching John Doe atm and it's Ashes to Ashes! Even though I know they're going to kill Karen, I know it's still going to be a shock, I just know it. It was done in such a way, so swiftly, so carelessly that I couldn't believe The Bad Guy had actually done it. Most tv shows and the way they sugar-coat pretty much everything make you doubly shock when they do end up killing one of the main characters.

Date: 2004-11-27 02:33 pm (UTC)So yeah, from this angle, there's definitely a fic almost written with that book *snicker* If we do some research, we may even find out that the writer is actually a BNF from a fandom we're familiar with *gasp*

Date: 2004-11-27 02:34 pm (UTC)I'm reading the Master Aprentice Starwars novels for children. They're written mostly by Jude Watson and boy are they slashy. Pre-slashy but way to fun to read. I love her Qui-gon. I'm sure she's a fandom writer.
Heee snort.
me loves fandom.

Date: 2004-11-27 03:18 pm (UTC)About Alexander, i don't know what to think about it, i've read good and bad things. Wait (until January argh!) and see.

Date: 2004-11-28 03:37 am (UTC)It seems people love it or hate it with a passion - the thing is, I don't know whether those who like it like it because of teh cheesy and stuff, you know? At least there's a good portion of it who sees teh gay, so it has to have some redeeming qualities, right? *is worried*

Date: 2004-11-27 10:10 pm (UTC)And as far as I know Colin's hair was his own! Funky bleached outness! Eeek! lol. I was supposed to see it yesterday but our theater had a problem with the version they had so I'm going to try again on Monday. I.Cannot.Wait. The wait is killing me. Angelina dominating Val. Colin being... just omg. Teh gayness that happens with not only Colin but Val! I'm tweaking!
Ok, I'm done. :P

Date: 2004-11-28 03:42 am (UTC)You're kidding me, that was his own hair? Man! But it looked so bad *blink* With some luck, it was just a bad shot - yeah, a bad shot *nodnod*
And you're not really complaining about having to wait until Monday when I have to wait until January, are you? *narrows eyes*

*meep!* No, I’m not complaining! Just that I went and then they messed it up so I couldn’t see it! I mean I was in the theater all snuggled in and NO MOVIE! *pouts*

really
The reviews aren't that good, though :|

Date: 2004-11-28 03:46 am (UTC)The reviews are... diversified, shall we say. At one point, I thought it might be better to just ignore everything and patiently wait, while not expecting anything good. Disappointment is impossible if you expect the worse *nodnod* Or more exactly, it can only be a good disappointment if the thing ends up being... not so bad.

l...o...w.... the things I do for teh gay...
The reviews are... diversified, shall we say.
Nice euphemism there :D. What irritated me the most were the people panning it before they'd seen it on basis of the trailer and/or the publicity shots. I felt like shaking them and yelling at them that they did the same thing when Pirates of the Caribbean came out; the movie was being blasted all over the place and as it turned out, it was actually really good.
Now Alexander isn't that great, according to most reviews I've seen, so it's not really comparable to PotC at this point. *sigh* Too bad. I really wanted it to be good :(
