Don't mind me, I'm just rambling

castalieSo last night I carefully picked my clothes and made sure to clean up my handbag and check that I hadn't forgotten any item of import (wallet, transport and work passes, book, ipod, headphones, notebook etc.) so that everything would be ready for the morning because, it had to happen, I went back to work today. It always reminds me of Back-to-School days, when I reverently made sure everything was ready so that everything went smoothly on the Big Day ;)
I'm lucky enough that going back to work doesn't cause any negative effects on me, on my sleep, on my mood or what not, although - obviously - I wouldn't have minded some more days of freedom ;) But all good things come to an end, as they say so, you know, I had to go back one day...
Something that always strikes me when going back to work after summer break is how fast things go back to "normal", how fast you go back to a routine that includes spending most of your days working. Being off work for three whole weeks (which is miraculous in and of itself), you tend to think that work will never really happen again, it's this sort of incredible state where it feels like you have all the time in the world to just do whatever you want, whenever you want. Being an adult, this isn't something we're used to anymore (although we're supposed to be freer to do whatever we want once we reach that stage, ironically.) I would miss this long break so much if I didn't work for a university anymore!
Now that summer break is over, though, I'm quite ready to bid adieu to the heat and for the weather to get colder. Yes, I just said that. But if you've been on my flist for a long time, you know how much I love winter and autumn. So now that going to the beach is but a memory and having the time to laze around and sunbath is a thing of the past, I can't wait to be able to go back to jeans and boots and jumpers, scarves and gloves! I want to read on lazy sunday mornings while listening to the rain outside, comfy all bundled up in my blanket, I long for the smell of roasted chestnuts in the streets, I'm impatient for Starbucks to send away its summer treats and bring back the pumpkin spice latte - even though I don't even drink them, it's the principle of the thing!
