Souvenirs, souvenirs
Jan. 14th, 2016 02:29 pmI was re-reading my last entry after replying to my comments and I wanted to cuddle myself; I wasn't having a good week, was I? I've felt much better this week, though, guess it was just a temporary lapse in motivation and good mood. It happens; it's just annoying when it does.
Changing the subject altogether now! So a couple of days ago,
greedy_dancer tweeted about her fanlore work and how she was thinking of adding an entry about the Great LJ Comment Experiment. She asked around whether anyone remembered it and, obviously, we both did. For one thing, it was just such a fun experiment, for another (and more importantly) that's where we actually met. Look at us, more than ten years after, close friends IRL.
Anyway, I didn't mention this to reminisce about the birth of the French Posse (although I could wax poetry about those wonderful ladies and our friendship) but after she mentioned the Great LJ Comment Experiment, I googled it to try and see what was left of it and turns out one of the results led me to my own journal... cue myself going on a back-reading spree of my old entries (we're talking 2004 here, you guys) and omg, the memories.
I still talked about mailing lists, mailing lists! Remember yahoogroups? (Incidentally, that's where I met
turps33) Guess I hadn't given up on them all yet. I talked about learning my way around HTML and how I was working on my site, which brought fond memories of Geocities. There was a lot of QAF US squeeing after I started watching the US version of the show. I read about my slowly turning to torrents and the wonderful world of downloads. There was this entry about the very first episode of Heroes. Another about the death of Janet in SG1, there were some memes...
Just so many lovely fannish memories. And it wasn't just the entries, I got to read the comments that were posted back then and there were so many names I remembered fondly; people who disappeared off the face of LJ a long time ago, people I still talk to today, people who are close friends or friends or even acquaintance but people who have been part of my life, one way or another, for more than ten years...
Can you tell reading all those old posts made me feel a bit verklempt? lol I was amused, quite a lot, and moved too, yeah, I'll admit ;)
