Vacances J-4
Jul. 22nd, 2019 09:39 pmAnother week, another heatwave. Do I care? Well, yes, I do as I really dislike scorching heat but my mind is pretty set on the holidays that are fast approaching. Only four days to go, flist! Four little days. Even with the heatwave, it's doable, right? Right!
I've had quite the pleasant time recently. My little trip to Bath was brilliant! Those of you who'd predicted I would love it were right. It's such a beautiful city, I felt right at home! My sister loved it too. We enjoyed Bath itself on Thursday and Friday (the Roman Baths were amazing, omg!) as well as the surroundings as we joined the Mad Max tour and went to Stonehenge on Saturday. It was incredible! You always feel quite small when facing such historical sites. On the same tour, we went to Avebury, then we had lunch at Lacock before walking through Castle Combe village. In the evening, once back to Bath, we headed to Sydney Gardens to enjoy Party in the Park, the concert that was held there as part of Bath Carnival. We had food at one of the many food stalls and sat down on the grass to enjoy the music, ending the day on a pretty chill note :) Then on Sunday, we spent the day in London \o/ My sister had been there once but she'd never visited either the National Library nor the British Museum so that's what we did (I was absolutely delighted because Cookie and I didn't have the opportunity to go there back in November - and even though we visit either/both places whenever we're in London, I still missed it a lot, so that was perfect!) I was also pretty happy to bring her to "our" pub for lunch, ie. the Euston Flyer pub, a place where we often have lunch when we visit the capital and which all the family has been at least once in the past few years, per our recommendation. (As usual, you can find some pictures of the trip at my Instagram account).
As for the past weekend, I had a blast! Cookie, Sis and I had booked tickets for an event at the Grand Palais celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's mission to the moon. First, we had access to the Lune exhibit then to the Mooon event, which was the highlight of the day, really. The venue itself was great as the Grand Palais is absolutely gorgeous (they also had installed a huge Moon up in the sky, which was pretty cool) and then there was the event itself: first, they showed the BBC drama-documentary 8 Days to the Moon and Back on a big screen and it felt a little bit like being back in time and watching the landing live. It was riveting. Then... oh then, it was time for the talk we'd been waiting for, ever since we bought the tickets, meaning a talk with Claudie Haigneré and Thomas Pesquet, two French astronauts (Claudie Haigneré being the first French woman to go to space). It was a blast! They're such clever, down-to-earth (which I know is ironical lol), humble, interesting people. They have such a perspective on life, humanity... going to space is obviously a life-changing event and, I don't know, you kinda feel it when you listen to them? Oh idk, it was just the best :) We could have listened to them for hours.
Sunday was more "mundane" but still chill and delightful (as well as productive) so all in all, I had a great time :) Then today was the start of the last working week of the (university) year which is special in and of itself ;)
